I was just wondering if Versus was a major sports broadcaster in the states.

I don't think so...most of my sports are from the local New York channels, at least when the Knicks play.

I don't think it's super popular here, though I watch it a lot.

Yeah, It's very much considered an outdoorsman type channel and a lot of times occupied with hobbies as well as sports.  At least that's what I've experienced.

Yes. At least satellite subscribers do.  I have the DISH network and they carry VS.  This past NHL season ran on the network.  I don't think it's as widely carried over cable networks such as Time-Warner Cable and Comcast, though.  Another reason why hockey is a failing sport in the states.

@FrankCanada97:  Regional cable companies decide what channels they do and do not want to offer to subscribers.  Some channels are set by headquarters.  They mostly include all the basics like CNN, MTV and ESPN.  But, when you get down to the third tier channels such as Fine Living, Discovery Health and Outdoor Life, then it's up to the local providers to decide if there is a market for the channel in that area.  So, they may choose to use that spot for something else such as Noggin or G4TV.  So, in some areas of the nation, VS is not carried by their local cable company.  But, as I said, the option of satellite is available everywhere and they carry almost all channels if you are willing to pay.

So give me a rough estimate, how many out of 10 American households have Versus?

@FrankCanada97:  Reuters News

"Versus, which Comcast rebranded from OLN almost three ago, is carried in 75.1 million U.S. households, compared with 98.1 million by Walt Disney Co's ESPN, according to Nielsen."

It used to be about 60 million subscribers, but I guess since Comcast bought them they are being pushed into a greater number of homes.  Still, even local Comcast affiliates can choose not to carry the network if their market share is too small.  But, 75 million is more that I had expected.

This is why the NHL needs to bring down the cost of NHL On Demand, or at least make more flexible packages available.

I would then support my favourite sports league and watch my Sharks at the same time. But 20 dollars a month is ridiculous, in the meantime I'll watch the Sharks in shitty resolution uStream (or ATDHE or justin.tv or whathaveyou).

So the general idea here is; a lot of people have Versus but they just don't watch it too much. Am I correct?
