Do you buy your games from Gamestop?
It seems like, myself included, most people have a distaste for Gamestop.Still. . . they're located all over the place and you can get something immediately rather than ordering it and waiting for it to come in the mail. The games I pick up at the brick and mortar stores are usually either new releases I didn't preorder online or portable games that I pick up just prior to going on a trip somewhere.
Also, I still don't know what I feel exactly about the used games market but I do sell my games off here. Again, it's due to convenience and I pretty much always use the store credit to buy a new game. I dunno. I don't really like them, or their business practices but I do shop there -_-;;
The bulk of my games I buy from Steam or I rent from Gamefly. Games I really like from Gamefly, I just click the "keep it" button to purchase the title at a discounted price. Sometimes, I get a new release from them the day of and it's already a discounted price, which is nice =)
I usually buy from Steam or Amazon but there are times when I go to Gamestop (i.e. for older, used games). If I want a game right at launch I usually go to Walmart at midnight since they usually have new releases available at that time. Of the three or so Gamestops I've been too, I've never had any issues with customer service.
I refuse to buy new games there since about 5 years ago and do almost all of my purchases through Steam or Amazon but I have on occasion picked up a used game for when I happen to be out with the kids and they see something they really want. The only other time I've picked up a used title was when I was briefly visiting my little brother and wanted to get him something specific before I left.
@HatKing: It's awesome to get a new release for $50.99, isn't it? Almost makes up for the perpetual bullshit. Almost.
Now that I have a credit card I get all my games on Amazon. Waiting a few days for them to get here is miles better than supporting GameStop.
I have stopped buying games from Gamestop due to various crap they have pulled on me over the years like:
- Selling gutted games for full price
- Got wrong disc in gutted and used games (multiple times)
- not getting pre-order DLC codes when picking up my game in the store.
- Gift cards that did not work
- "New" games with scratched discs and missing instruction manuals
- Games with no box
- Games with broken boxes
The crap they pulled with deus ex just reinforces my desire to never shop there again.

I don't work retail and I can get new releases for that price either by pre-ordering or waiting a week after release. I shop at Amazon, Newegg, etc. As a bonus, the games are still sealed.@HatKing: It's awesome to get a new release for $50.99, isn't it? Almost makes up for the perpetual bullshit. Almost.
I live in Israel. The prices here are very high, so while looking for an alternative, I found that GAME.co.uk has lower prices, and the shipping is for free
So hey, sure they suck, but in my condition, buying from GAME is my best deal
Of course I do, seems like they're only terrible in the US. Here's theres no pre-opened games or anything like that. And they're not forcing stuff on to you and other stuff people keep crying about. They're one of the better stores around here(this country) compared to the rest of the shit we have. Also, free microsoftpoints and pre-order bonus-stuff. Getting collectors/limited edition of stuff like Starcraft 2 and Bioshock 2 for the price of what the game alone would cost.
I sometimes shop there. The employees at my local GameStop are pretty cool guys. When there's nobody in line, we often have video game conversations. I don't buy there as often as I used to, but it's still okay to go there every now and then.
I've never personally had a problem with them, but I just don't like going into them and Amazon always has better deals for me.
@HatKing: My manager's cool too, although she lets people check out new stuff, which seems messed up. It's just that level of bullshit that comes with any retail position.
The only time I do is on the off-chance that I am in a bind monetarily, want to trade some of my games (which I hardly ever do), and am willing to except Gamestop's rip-off pricing.
Well, I basically only buy used, so yeah, I shop there. I have two local non-GameStop used game stores that I buy from, one more than the other, though, but whenever GameStop has a buy two get one free sale on used games, and I have money to spend, I'm there.
I'm a semi-hardcode Slickdealer, so whatever's cheapest...
There should be a "Not any more" option, because that's how it is for me as of yesterday. A corporate memo telling the stores to tamper with products and not reveal that to the customer? We're done. A shame, too. The two stores by my house have always been good places to get games. They aren't pushy or sticklers about the pre-orders or GI subscriptions, and the people there are fairly pleasant to talk to. They don't even carry PC games at these two locations, but a corporation that blatantly tells its franchisees to screw and deceive the customer like that will not see a dime of my money ever again.
