I am wondering because, I see people with there blinkers on in the indicated direction when in a turn only lane. I find that just weird, what is the point? I can see them wanting to do that if you can also go straight , or go in the other direction if that lane allows you to do so. I myself don't bother flicking my blinker on if I can on;y go in one direction. So, do you all use your blinkers in turn only lanes or not?
Do you ever use your blinker in a turn lane?
" Yes...because it's for others' benefit to know where the hell you are going. The cars across the intersection from you may not know you are in a turn only lane. "
What she said. It's a safety thing. Also, aren't they called indicators?
I'm all for people always using turn signals, regardless of what damn lane they are in. If they were smart enough to selectively not use them when it's not a big deal (as in the situation you described), then that would be fine. Too many people don't use them period, so I say just use them all the time so it's automatic.
I always do, you never know what the other drivers are thinking--or if they are even aware that you're in a turn lane.
For the non-users, didn't you use your blinker to get into the turn-only lane in the first place? At least where I'm at, turn-only lanes almost always have to be switched to (with the exception of some right hand ones). So, if you used your blinker to switch lanes, are you going to like, turn off the blinker once you're in the lane or something? Or did you just not use one in that situation either?
" Basic traffic rule: always use your blinkers if your turn brings you onto a road with a different name, regardless of whether your lane is "turn only" or not. "This, and pretty much what everyone else has said.
Lets other people know your intentions, because not everyone knows what's what. I always use my signal for pretty much any turn aside from into my driveway (live in a Cul-De-Sac).
" Yes...because it's for others' benefit to know where the hell you are going. The cars across the intersection from you may not know you are in a turn only lane. "
Exactly.
I've seen people (women mostly do this, mothers usually, maybe with children in car) blink in CURVES, not even turns. Why do they do that? Because the're overly careful, and that, is something of a rare stuff nowadays on the roads (agreed blinking in curves is not helping, but its the principle). I prefer somebody that blinks at every freaking little change of direction, no matter how small it is, if it helps my awareness of what he is doing on the asphalt i share with him. I'm a motorcyclist, i dont have the luxury of a metal car body work around me, i have to drive defensively and be aware what goes on around me at all times, so there is no such thing as too much signalization of ones intentions. Way, waaay to often people dont use the blinkers at all, so if i have to pick between the two vices, i prefer the former.
