Can't say I enjoy metal. I found myself enjoying music where I can hear the personality of the players and instruments--something that is spontaneous and not overtly produced and edited in a studio.
@MrKlorox: yeah i've noticed that there are quite a few metal fans here too. good to see. anyway that's the first i've heard from Deeds of Flesh, it's a little deathy for my tastes but i have listened to The Black Dhalia Murder and Knights of the Abyss in the past, two bands you might enjoy :D i'm really into sludge right now. bands like The Abominable Iron Sloth, Admiral Angry, Black Sheep Wall, etc.
I test metal for cracks, fissures and other nonconformances as part of my work.
I used to be way into metal, but now that I work with it on a full time basis it's taken the edge off any pleasure I derive from it... I guess I'm jaded.

I envy those who are into metal for fun. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days...
I do but I don't like screamo, if I can't understand what you're saying, I don't like your song. My favorite band is Disturbed, although I do like some Korn and Slip Not, as well as Drowning pool. A bit of Egypt central, although not sure if they qualify as metal.
Metal is the worst music genre ever made. I can't believe that some people listen to that noise. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to relax in my easy-chair to some Carpenters

well, thank you for voicing your opinion... but to you all metal is about... satan and/or evil? that's like me saying ratatat is just a couple of hipsters with a drum machine and a record collection drinking pbr and shoping at american apparel. not very fair is it?

wow you get major points from me for the sunn O))) reference. they're probably one of the most obscure bands out there. and i do agree that it's very hard to place them in a singe genre. very, very dark and abrasive.
Heh, I just rented Brutal Legend, so I'm feelin' the metal. Too bad the game kind of sucks. The whole metal vibe is fun, even though the story is pretty lame and cheesy, and I think Jack Black does a fine job but the gameplay is pretty weak. The RTS rock shows, especially, are definitely a low-point in the game. I wanted to get more out of the game, but it just doesn't seem like it was worth it.

Yeah, man. It's boring, repetitive, and just a total hassle. I didn't even reach the goth part. I would have played it a little more, but had to return it today. I only did two of the rock shows, and man, I can tell you I never want to do another one again. Prior to those, I was thinking I'd rent it again since I only got a few hours of playtime in, but now I've totally decided against it. Psychonauts this is not.

Anyway on topic, out of it's subgenres I would say I listen to metalcore the most. Some black metal because that shit is way to hilarious to take seriously.

Among other things I quite enjoy metal. I see sunnO))) was mentioned here. Some people call it doom metal, some call it sludge, some just call it stoner rock. People are way too busy quantifying and segregating music into all these tiny little subgenres. Blargh. If you like sunnO))) I recommend Boris. They have a pretty sweet split together.
The most metal thing I've been listening to lately has been a lot of Anal Cunt. I'm actually getting better at hearing if Seth is just screaming or singing the lyrics. Though I've mostly been on switching between Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Raekwon and Bone Machine by Tom Waits on this sleepless night.
I like Industrial mostly although i must state the obvious todays music is 99 percent pure shit.Where's the next Jim morrrison or Kurt Cobain this past decade has been the worst decade of Music in history the most commercialized bullshit with nothing original that goes for all forms of music its uttery shit good music with meaning and passion is gone for at least now.The only good stuff is the old stuff imo.
metal is mostly for kids that dont really understand who they are yet, they need 40 year old children who make silly faces on the front of magazines to tell them.
