#6 Posted by Bubahula (2197 posts) -

yes i do, but not any of the crap they put on radio.

#7 Posted by natetodamax (19171 posts) -

Only the old school hip hop from the late 80s and 90s like Naughty By Nature. Everything today is garbage.

#8 Posted by Everyones_A_Critic (6287 posts) -

Yes, quite a bit more in the past year or so than any other time in my life. Pre-Encore Eminem, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. are among my favorites. Lil' Wayne can rap but I really don't like the sound of his voice.

#9 Posted by evanbrau (1162 posts) -

I do but only fairly old stuff. Nothing thats come out in the past few years has really gotten my attention.

@kishan6:
Aesop Rock is really the only one I'll listen to.
#11 Posted by Noted (119 posts) -

Some, but I hate all that gangster-shit, bling-bling stuff.

#12 Posted by TheHT (10890 posts) -

Lupe Fiasco is my favorite musician/artist after Muse, so yes.

You sure you're listening to the right stuff? There are lots of great artists out there that don't get as much air time cause their songs aren't clubby enough.
#13 Posted by HitmanAgent47 (8576 posts) -

I like rap because I can sort of freestyle. I started to appreciate the art form because I realised it wasn't easy rapping and it takes skill. Overall I say it's a type of poetry imo that sounds good.

i wouldn't say everything recent is shit, just the stuff most people are exposed to now by radio, tv ,etc...
#15 Posted by InfiniteGeass (2051 posts) -

There are 3 genres of music I don't listen to. Rap, hip hop, and country. Everything else is usually OK.

I listen to the radio maybe once a month and I don't like anything they play. And I was referring to the rap/hip hop nowadays, not music in general.
#17 Posted by BaconGames (3292 posts) -

Of course!  I could easily say I listen to only old school rap but I don't.  There is an incredible amount of good hip-hop that was released in the last few years like DJ Spinna, Tanya Morgan, John Robinson, Blu, Diamond District, Madlib, Oh No, Fashawn, MF Doom, Crown City Rockers, The Lone Wolf, Y Society, Percee P and this doesn't include any artists from earlier in the decade still releasing gold like Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang Clan, Common etc.

I suppose you have to trust I avoid bad rap.

Yea this, although there are a few good artists.

As a general rule - no. But I don't immediately dismiss all rap/hip hop songs. There are some decent songs in the genre.

Again, rap that isn't on the radio  is good, and actually has lyrics that aren't retarded

I'm glad this is the first reply, because the shit on the radio is exactly the reason why rap gets such a bad name these days. It's sad the real artists who come up with some amazing stuff have to take a back seat to artists who are complete trash. E.g. Compare the amount of play time Soulja Boy got to someone like Lupe Fiasco. It's sickening.

@ArchScabby: that guys pretty good is rhyming reminds a lot of mike shinoda
#29 Posted by Karmum (11517 posts) -

For the most part, no. I can tolerate 90s hip-hop and rap, but not a big fan of the current stuff on the market. I consider Kanye West borderline acceptable, and so people like Soulja Boy and Lil' Wayne aren't uh, "very good" in my book.

That applies to all fans of any genre, but especially in respect to Hip Hop, if you do give a fuck, you you have no idea what Hip Hop is about. "
u need to calm down lol.  i was just curious
#31 Posted by Qorious (847 posts) -

Not anymore. Most of today's hip-hop and rap is just gratuitous lyrics about drugs, girls, alcohol, etc.

#32 Posted by damswedon (3175 posts) -

Yep- but only stuff like the Beastie Boys, Biggie Smalls and of couse the greatest song of all time

#33 Posted by Gamer_152 (14051 posts) -

No, it's really not my kind of music.

Rap is awesome, and I think more people in the gaming community need to realize how much better anything you play is when you blast actually good rap over it.

Also beatboxing is fun.

#35 Posted by MichaelScott (193 posts) -

I like a fair amount of hip-hop, mostly old stuff like the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC with a little Eminem and Jay-Z here and there.

#36 Edited by RandomInternetUser (6789 posts) -

Yes, but only the 80's/90's rap/hip-hop.  Modern stuff that is on the radio is shit.  There are a few exceptions though.  Jay-Z has put out a couple songs I like recently.

Metal for fucking life.
#38 Posted by Th3_James (2576 posts) -

I like good rap music.

#39 Posted by Toxin066 (3254 posts) -

I'll listen to Woop There It Is by Tag Team or Jump Around by House of Pain.

#40 Posted by lovecreep (166 posts) -

I do but i am picky i really enjoy the more 'underground' stuff i guess... Aesop rock is probably my favorite.
#41 Posted by clarke0 (1077 posts) -

Absolutely. Hip-Hop is one of my favorite genres. 90's was the golden age but there are still tons of creative artists making good material. Fuck the commercial shit, because the underground scene is what is keeping Hip-Hop alive.

@MattyFTM:
I'd agree. I have this crazy way of liking music - if the song is good, regardless of the genre, I'll like it.

#43 Posted by MrRedwine (429 posts) -

I do not listen to much rap.  My wife can't stand cursing and misogyny (degrading women) pretty much at all, so most rap is out.  I am a huge fan of expertly produced beats and synth sounds and well crafted rhymes, so I try to catch some new stuff when I can and I definitely have respect for the old school big bangers like the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and the classic works of the Fresh Prince and D.J. Jazzy Jeff.  I love that Ryan makes references to "He's the D.J., I'm the Rapper" on the bombcast from time to time.

#44 Posted by scarace360 (4828 posts) -

no i dont like rap and or hip hop. Fuck that.

#45 Posted by Shazam (474 posts) -

Jay Z, I adore. Vocal poetry with modern themes and always a crunking beat behind it all.

#46 Posted by lead_farmer (1040 posts) -

I listen to a variety of stuff.  From Gang Starr and  A Tribe Called Quest to Little Brother and Jurassic 5.  Right now I'm listening to a lot of beats from Hi-Tek, Madlib and Jay Dee.
I don't listen to the stuff on the radio because I either don't like it or it gets the usual radio treatment of being overplayed.

Obviously, after all this whole thread is about rap/hip-hop. That's definitely not enough listening to make the call though.
#48 Posted by Nightshade1765 (12 posts) -

All genres have good music.  Rap included.

#49 Posted by damnboyadvance (4059 posts) -

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, it is very repetitive and annoying. But there are some good songs I enjoy listening to. I listen to Snoop Dogg some. While some of his songs are just a little annoying, some of them also have a good beat.

It is pretty untalented, I have to admit, though. But I still enjoy it.

#50 Posted by onimonkii (2429 posts) -

i do but at the same time i'm never seeking out new rap/hip hop. i just stick to what i know and if i happen to hear something i like, great.
