Only the old school hip hop from the late 80s and 90s like Naughty By Nature. Everything today is garbage.

Yes, quite a bit more in the past year or so than any other time in my life. Pre-Encore Eminem, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. are among my favorites. Lil' Wayne can rap but I really don't like the sound of his voice.

Lupe Fiasco is my favorite musician/artist after Muse, so yes.

You sure you're listening to the right stuff? There are lots of great artists out there that don't get as much air time cause their songs aren't clubby enough.

I like rap because I can sort of freestyle. I started to appreciate the art form because I realised it wasn't easy rapping and it takes skill. Overall I say it's a type of poetry imo that sounds good.

There are 3 genres of music I don't listen to. Rap, hip hop, and country. Everything else is usually OK.

I listen to the radio maybe once a month and I don't like anything they play. And I was referring to the rap/hip hop nowadays, not music in general.

Of course!  I could easily say I listen to only old school rap but I don't.  There is an incredible amount of good hip-hop that was released in the last few years like DJ Spinna, Tanya Morgan, John Robinson, Blu, Diamond District, Madlib, Oh No, Fashawn, MF Doom, Crown City Rockers, The Lone Wolf, Y Society, Percee P and this doesn't include any artists from earlier in the decade still releasing gold like Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang Clan, Common etc.

I suppose you have to trust I avoid bad rap.

As a general rule - no. But I don't immediately dismiss all rap/hip hop songs. There are some decent songs in the genre.

Again, rap that isn't on the radio  is good, and actually has lyrics that aren't retarded

I'm glad this is the first reply, because the shit on the radio is exactly the reason why rap gets such a bad name these days. It's sad the real artists who come up with some amazing stuff have to take a back seat to artists who are complete trash. E.g. Compare the amount of play time Soulja Boy got to someone like Lupe Fiasco. It's sickening.

For the most part, no. I can tolerate 90s hip-hop and rap, but not a big fan of the current stuff on the market. I consider Kanye West borderline acceptable, and so people like Soulja Boy and Lil' Wayne aren't uh, "very good" in my book.

Not anymore. Most of today's hip-hop and rap is just gratuitous lyrics about drugs, girls, alcohol, etc.

Rap is awesome, and I think more people in the gaming community need to realize how much better anything you play is when you blast actually good rap over it.

Also beatboxing is fun.

I like a fair amount of hip-hop, mostly old stuff like the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC with a little Eminem and Jay-Z here and there.

Yes, but only the 80's/90's rap/hip-hop.  Modern stuff that is on the radio is shit.  There are a few exceptions though.  Jay-Z has put out a couple songs I like recently.

Absolutely. Hip-Hop is one of my favorite genres. 90's was the golden age but there are still tons of creative artists making good material. Fuck the commercial shit, because the underground scene is what is keeping Hip-Hop alive.

I do not listen to much rap.  My wife can't stand cursing and misogyny (degrading women) pretty much at all, so most rap is out.  I am a huge fan of expertly produced beats and synth sounds and well crafted rhymes, so I try to catch some new stuff when I can and I definitely have respect for the old school big bangers like the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and the classic works of the Fresh Prince and D.J. Jazzy Jeff.  I love that Ryan makes references to "He's the D.J., I'm the Rapper" on the bombcast from time to time.

I listen to a variety of stuff.  From Gang Starr and  A Tribe Called Quest to Little Brother and Jurassic 5.  Right now I'm listening to a lot of beats from Hi-Tek, Madlib and Jay Dee.
I don't listen to the stuff on the radio because I either don't like it or it gets the usual radio treatment of being overplayed.

Obviously, after all this whole thread is about rap/hip-hop. That's definitely not enough listening to make the call though.

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, it is very repetitive and annoying. But there are some good songs I enjoy listening to. I listen to Snoop Dogg some. While some of his songs are just a little annoying, some of them also have a good beat.

It is pretty untalented, I have to admit, though. But I still enjoy it.
