Poll: Do you like spinach? (197 votes)

Yes 83%
No 13%
I don't like vegetables 4%

I just had lunch, and I realize I have an almost-fantastic poll. I discovered that spinach is my favorite vegetable ever a couple of years ago. I enjoy having it from a can (on a plate), or freshly-boiled. It goes great when made with pizza, lasagna, quiche, or simply with butter and Swiss or mozzarella cheese.

Anyway, what's your take?

Yes.

Love it with a dish of rice

It's alright. I like it mixed in with a salad. I'm not big on cooked spinach, although it can be alright in some things.

I prefer fresh spinach that you put on salad and such but any spinach is good with me

#5 Posted by dudeglove (8309 posts) -

Yep.

#6 Posted by NegativeCero (3041 posts) -

Yup. I don't eat it enough though.

#7 Posted by SomberOwl (731 posts) -

My take is I like it. Also this is a weird coincidence considering I made some raw spinach soup for dinner tonight.

Oh good, we have adults here! That's fantastic.

I'll like a spinach salad. Some of that that blue crumble cheese. Some peaches on the side. :)

Yes, I do. Mainly in spinach bread. Anyone ever tried cooking spninach in milk?

#10 Posted by pyromagnestir (4339 posts) -

Only ever had it once. After a day at the casino a friend and I went to his house and his mother had made some sort of spinach quiche-esque thing (I forget what she called it, but she didn't call it quiche) I found it to be an enjoyable meal.

@trafalgarlaw: With milk?! No.. That sounds fantastic.. Like, what else do you put on it other than milk?..

#12 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5155 posts) -

I'm an adult so yes.

#13 Posted by Kedi2 (255 posts) -

I hate it. I'm pretty picky when it comes to vegetables.

#14 Edited by TrafalgarLaw (1399 posts) -

@blu3v3nom07:

No the milk is used as a cooking medium to keep the green color fresh and have it lose a lot less nutrients (or so I heard) when boiling.

But I have no idea how it would taste like...

Yes. Great for quiche and lasagna

#16 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4702 posts) -

Never had it in years. I remember it being my least favorite veggie.

#17 Edited by Svenzon (731 posts) -

Yeah. I loved spinach as a kid, but one day after we'd had spinach for lunch in school I got stomach flu and puked it all up. Couldn't eat it for years after that, but nowadays it tastes great again.

Sure. I like spinach. I am a true omnivore though. Not picky about food whatsoever.

Fresh spinach with a creamy white sauce (refined with some white wine and fresh herbs maybe) - a flippin' delight! Even better, serve the stuff with lasagne and seafood.

No I also don't like Olive Oil

#20 Posted by Toxeia (725 posts) -

As a child I sustained myself on spinach and brussel sprouts for a month. I was an odd one.

Sure, but I'd rather have a romaine salad than raw spinach or cooked collard greens or kale than stewed most of the time.

Also, arugula is similar but more interesting flavor-wise.

Spinach is delicious.

#23 Posted by myketuna (1761 posts) -

I don't like fresh spinach too much (salad or sandwich style), but cooked spinach is fine by me. More of a romaine lettuce guy for sandwiches and such.

#24 Posted by Icemael (6364 posts) -

Cooked spinach is fucking delicious with potatoes and/or fish. Otherwise it's okay I guess.

#25 Posted by Arbie (1437 posts) -

Yes its lovely! I like it best raw with tomatoes!

I never understood spinach. Gritty tasting, yet slithery like pond scum and possessing a foul aftertaste.

I can do broccoli, cauliflower, cooked cabbage etc. But spinach does not enter my kitchen.

The cats don't like it either.

#27 Posted by JackSukeru (5967 posts) -

I didn't like it as a kid but almost never had it. After that I completely didn't have it for several years until tasting it some time ago and I guess I don't hate it, I'd never go out of my way to have some though.

#28 Posted by Ben_H (3444 posts) -

Raw spinach is amazing. I prefer it to lettuce when it comes to salads.

I absolutely abhor cooked spinach though.

#29 Posted by Scrawnto (2468 posts) -

Absolutely, raw or cooked. Not canned, though.

#30 Posted by 71Ranchero (2834 posts) -

Yes but not cooked. I dont like any leafy greens cooked. They just taste wilted and rotten.

#31 Edited by 49th (2853 posts) -

yeah

I remember tasting spinach soup back in kindergarden. Hated it! Haven't touched it since, but then again, I didn't like asparagus either, which is now my favorite vegetable.

#33 Posted by RedLeader (38 posts) -

I probably eat spinach every day (girlfriend is vegetarian). My only gripe with it is that, like many other leafy greens, its nutritional value is sapped if it is even slightly overcooked. Gotta keep an eye on that 'nach, folks. Get them vitamins. 'Nach is my word for spinach.

Well since its major constituent in Saag Chicken, my favourite Indian dish, HELLS TO THE YES!

I'm the 2%, the only vegetables I like are corn and potatoes anything else is yech.

#38 Posted by McGhee (6075 posts) -

The only green thing I actually like to eat.

#39 Edited by Harabec (83 posts) -

Didn't like it as a kid (big surprise) but since I went to college I developed a broader taste for food in general.

You learn to appreciate good cooking after eating microwaved crap in your dorm room.

#40 Posted by rflx (577 posts) -

Sure, spinach is alright.

#41 Edited by Nev (562 posts) -

No, but the only vegetable I like are potatoes. Spinach is up there though in the particularly nasty to me list.

#42 Posted by triple07 (1198 posts) -

Fuck no get that gross shit away from me. It's mostly the texture that bothers me though, the taste isn't great but its also not too bad.

#43 Edited by Demoskinos (15180 posts) -

Im all about cooked spinach.

#44 Posted by audioBusting (1649 posts) -

Yes, but not a big fan of the strange aftertaste. I like water spinach a lot more!

#45 Posted by Ravenlight (8011 posts) -

No. I have the palate of a toddler.

#46 Edited by shivermetimbers (793 posts) -

Spinach Alfredo pizza is actually my favorite. Though I occasionally eat spinach raw.

#47 Posted by JJOR64 (19070 posts) -

Not too bad.

#48 Posted by Hailinel (25205 posts) -

Spinach, particularly baby spinach, is boss.

#49 Posted by TheHT (11831 posts) -

I like a spinach and feta croissant and there's this filo pastry thing with spinach and cheese in it that I also can't stop eating when we get it.

Other than that, fuck spinach.

Spinach is right behind Brussels sprouts for my favorite greens.
