Depends on the game, League of Legends is really the only game I listen to music with. But it's generally soundtracks to other games I put on anyway!

Depends on the game, and what is currently happening in the game.

Far too often, yeah. Pre-internet, I'd mute the TV and listen to the radio. Nowadays, I take any excuse to mute the game audio and listen to my iTunes library.

For me if I'm playing an interesting game. Then I probably won't play any music until I've beaten it once. If I'm playing a online competitive game then I'm definitively listening to music.

I like to listen to music or a podcast while playing games with no story to follow, such as Heroes of Newerth, Street Fighter 4 or Diablo 3.

Yup.

I might have some music on for stuff like Puzzle Quest, N+, Risk Factions, or stuff like that where the music isn't so interesting, the sound effects aren't vital to the gameplay and the story is inconsequential or nonexistent. Or for something like a Tony Hawk or racing or sports game if I'm tired of the soundtrack. Also if I'm playing a game for the second time, like Mass Effect for example, I might put on some music during the less talky parts.

All of the time! Not when I'm playing the campaign of games, but when I play some multiplayer I do. Or if its like a racing game or sports game, I'm always listening to music or podcasts.

I'm really fucking bad at doing more then one thing at the same time. Listening to music is usually a project of it's own, trying to play a game at the same time is madness "exception: Audiosurf". It would take something really goddamn brainless for me to even consider it, and those games are reserved for podcasts. The only time I'm not focusing entirely on a game is when I'm playing a multiplayer gane which requires communication with the team.

Depends on the game, but deffo League of Legends, and certain really long games during grinding or some such other tedious activity.

I'll usually listen to podcasts over music though.

Only when playing online, and then only in games where sound isn't key to performance (or I just don't care at the time).

I'll listen to music while playing TF2, for example, but not if I'm playing Spy or Sniper (especially Spy, sound is paramount). I'll also stop if there is a good Spy playing on the opposite team.

Not usually. However, if I'm playing a simple puzzle game or a sports game, it's podcasts all the way.

Actually, I just started playing Fallout: New Vegas and one of the first things I did was turn the music off. I love to wonder the wasteland with only the ambient sounds going. Same thing with Skyrim and Dead Island, too.

@cclemon36: But the 50s-themed music is aaaaawesome! I think there is a radio mod who puts in like 40 more songs. So worth it.

Even though I grew up mosly listening to Rap and R&B music. I also listen to other genre of music aswell. It can be rock, techno anything as long as I like the song. It can even be from a video game or movie such as this song...

I played this song during online matches in street fighter 3, and got my asskicked. Even though I was pumped up I still got fucked up.

Usually only when I'm grinding or when there's not a large focus on story/music (in the case of rhythm games)

Typically I do not, unless I'm collecting objects, backtracking, or the game is multiplayer.
There are obviously exceptions in there, but I do like the music that is in the games already; it allows for me to really love the soundtrack.

Only multiplayer games like Dota. Need something to get me pumped, so when I loose a game I still feel pretty much the same, like I'm about to die. Sore loser I guess.

I love the custom soundtrack options in Gran Turismo and Wipeout....I swear I race better with good music....but sometimes I really need to concentrate on the engine pitch so I have to turn it off.

Usually only when I'm playing online. Although I will have something playing over the occasional Sandbox game if I don't hold any particular investment in the soundtrack.

Sometimes, but usually only if I'm doing something particularly badass. For instance, when I got to the "Shepard with airstrikes vs. Reaper" sequence in ME3, I put on "Power." It became infinitely less awesome when I died three times in a row.

Generally, however, I just listen to podcasts or put a TV show or Quick Look on another nearby screen.

Only in multiplayer games, but if I'm talking to people online it's generally off or super low. Though I will listen to podcasts in single player games.

Yea, but like most other people only when I won't be missing story beats or cut-scenes. Otherwise music or even Netflix on my other monitor.

I don't usually, due to the fact that I talk to my mates over Skype it makes listening to music kind of difficult. So multiplayer is usually out of the question, Unless on the very rare occasion that I can balance the sound level of the game, Skype (and hope no one blasts music which through Skype sounds bloody horrible) and the music I want to listen to all at the same time.

But when I do play single player I play music depending on the game, a game with voice acting I usually don't have music, (Unless I'm just adventuring in Skyrim or similar game and I have X-Fire running in the background so I can turn off the music) but puzzle game or FPS Music most of the time.

I dont listen to music, but I do listen to Quicklooks while I am playing games. I don't usually pay attention, and I doubt I could tell you what they just said, but I just like the constant level of noise.

One, depends on the game, certain games (which tend to sit on a long queue) I refused to play while listening to something, and two, always podcasts. Very rarely music.

No. At least not on my first play through. When I play a game, I want to play it the way the designers intended me to play it, which probably means listening to the game's music and not my own music on the periphery.

You forgot the "I don't talk like a doofus" option. Not that I would've picked it homes. I never listen to music while playing a game, but if I'm doing something especially grindy I might put on a podcast or something.

Depends on the game, Minecraft works for it, but games with a story I wanna experience not so much. I have found that when I have been stuck on a section of a game for a while and I have taken a break from it, if I put on music when I come back to it I usually get past it a lot quicker than I thought I would (and if I don't then at least there's music there rather than the same lines of dialogue repeated ad infinitum.)

It really depends on the game for me. If I'm playing something like Mass Effect or The Walking Dead I won't, but if I don't care about the story (Borderlands, for example) I will.

Only with MMO or MOBA like games.

Even then it depends on the game, because stuff like WoW and SWTOR I muted pretty quick but Lord of the Rings Online has amazing music.
