I've recently started listening to all the old 90's songs I used to listen to as a little kid, and it makes realize how sucky todays music is. i already know everyone says that, but it really is true. i remember listening on the radio today and some pitbull song was playing with some moron autotuned voice and it sounds so stupid compared to the songs back then.

this song by eiffel 65 rules, i bet if you listen to it, you'd remember it.  http://www.awesometothemax.com/eiffel.html

I'll be listening to Dookie when it is the 90s all over again in 2090.

I love 90's music.  I'm a child of that era, and I listened a bit of everything ranging from punk rock Nirvana to pop music No Doubt to Notorious BIG and Tupac, the coast-to-coast kings of hip-hop.

That being said, can we throw out this notion that current music sucks.  Stuff on the radio might not be the best, but it wasn't "all hits all the time" in the 90's either.  For every gem there was a pile of forgettable tunes.  Great music is out there - it's just that radio and MTV aren't the main outlets to find it.  Just use the internet, search music blogs, and find artists that aren't being whored out by large corporate music labels that are trying to make some dough.

A lot of 90s music was bad, to the point that I'd say that it had just as many misses as the 00s. That more or less applies to every decade since the invention of...music, I guess. Keep in mind that for every Beethoven there most likely was ten 18th century equivalents of "insert bad group here".

Well great, now I have to learn how to play the bass in Longview.

I love 90's music. Mainly because that was pretty much my exposure to music while in high school, and I still hear it all of the time pretty much everywhere I go.
It's about 90% of what I hear downstairs at my place.

#13 Posted by MaFoLu (1859 posts) -

I'm Blue is awesome!

Still listen to it sometimes, also it has the best music video ever... After Rebecca Black's Friday of course.

#14 Posted by TheSilentTruth (1153 posts) -

Death (the metal band) is one of my favorite bands.

#15 Posted by UncleClassy (405 posts) -

come the fuck on, the radio was never good ever, even in the 90's; there are plenty of great bands and shit but maybe you should stop living in the past, stop listening to the radio and fucking look for them.

also nirvana is terrible FYI and I grew up in the 90's

70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and.. I guess some of the stuff being made these days too

#20 Posted by D0tti (786 posts) -

Off course, some of the best Hip-Hop/Rap songs are from the 90s, so yeah I pretty much listen to 90s music daily.

#21 Posted by MattyFTM (14433 posts) -

I didn't listen to 90's music when it was the 90's, I'm not going to start now. OK, there were some decent songs in the 90's, but the majority was rubbish. The 70's and 80's are where the real music is at.

I didn't really get into Music untill a few years ago, and I'm still not really into it now. But I enjoyed Britney Spears pre-2000

Only to the good ones.

#25 Posted by PenguinDust (12641 posts) -

I listen to stuff from all decades, 90's included.  But, the 90's are my favorite for alternative music.

#26 Posted by TooWalrus (13258 posts) -

You should try listening to music from the 60s through the 80s, maybe you'll realize that 90s music was pretty crappy too.

#27 Posted by ryanwho (12082 posts) -

Everyone thinks this every generation. Is music getting progressively worse? No, you're just romantic about your childhood bullshit.

#28 Posted by babblinmule (1262 posts) -

Alot of 90's music falls under the 'so bad that its good' category. So therefore about half the music on my walkman is from the 90's (seriously, the new walkmans are so damn freaking good).

#29 Posted by RobotHamster (4177 posts) -

Yes because that was when rap was good.

I hate when people say music today isn't good. Your entire reason is you turned on the radio and heard a song with autotune. That would be like saying 90's music sucked because you turned on the radio and heard Brittany Spears. But to stay on topic, the 90's had Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins and grunge so yeah, it was awesome.

Auto Tune is to this generation as bell bottoms were to my parent's generation and neon spandex or big hair is to my generation. I was born in the 80s but got into music in 90s during Jr. High and High School. I love the random 90s song that comes on the radio! Just yesterday I was rocking out on the way to work (at 5:30 AM!) to "I can never be your woman". Prodigy Firestarter will always get an automatic bump in the volume department when I hear it as will Dynamite Hack "Boyz in the Hood" God that was a great cover song!
#33 Posted by fr0stb1te (71 posts) -

The majority of my favorite music is from the 90's. Not to mention the Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band of all time.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Tool, Nine Inch Nails... and thats just to name a few.
Such an awesome time for music!
#34 Posted by Fajita_Jim (1458 posts) -

I was a teen/young adult in the 90's so that's all 'my music'. StP, Soundgarden, Porno for Pyros, Alice in Chains, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins...hell yeah I still listen to 90's music.

Pretty much this.  Also it just tickles me whenever some song back from high school turns up in the Rock Band store.

I'm thinking that everyone who says music sucks today must get all their music from the radio.  With how easy it is to get music out there now it's probably more varied than it's ever been.

My 90's nostaliga is me hating everything I hear on the radio because of all the time I spent on the school bus and if they play that one Ace of Base song again I'm going to stab somebody.

#37 Posted by skunkdragon (212 posts) -

It's all good! My pet peev is auto tune, Coldplay prime example decent songs but fuck me that dude can't sing a note.

That's the thing, I firmly believe that the major problem with music today is that mainstream radio is catering to a very specific formula rather than the shotgun blast of music that even 2000 had and back.  If you want new, good music, it's not with major labels on the radio; it's independent on the internet.
#39 Posted by AhmadMetallic (18954 posts) -

ofcourse.. the greatest music came from the 90s

Opeth, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Machine Head, Green Day, Dream Theater, Iced Earth ..
#40 Posted by Example1013 (4807 posts) -

I've noticed that people on this forum take absolutely every opportunity given to them to whine about music today and claim x decade was so much better.

We get it. You hate progress. Shut the fuck up.
#41 Posted by MooseyMcMan (11415 posts) -

All the time. I cannot get enough Soundgarden (although they had a lot of 80s stuff too), Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots...Okay, pretty much just grunge, but grunge was totally a 90s thing.

#42 Posted by OmegaChosen (647 posts) -

  ...Yeah, that's the stuff.
#43 Edited by louiedog (2335 posts) -

There's a lot of good music being made today. Not everything is autotuned. Sure, the radio is full of that stuff, but there's always been a ton of shit on the radio. As you get older and your tastes mature you find less and less appealing music on the radio, but you still have that nostalgia for what you heard as a kid. This same discussion was happening 10 years ago, and 10 years before that. In 10 years it will still be happening.

My girlfriend sat across the aisle from the two youngest Hanson brothers on a plane. Yes, bro, it is a cool story.

I was just a little kid in the 90's but some of my favourite bands/music are from then... The Breeders, Pixies, Portishead, Sonic Youth etc.
Also, if you search hard enough, there's plenty of great new bands (although not as good as the majority of 'classics'....)

#45 Posted by soulfulsoul (144 posts) -

Today's music is awesome, it just takes a bit of effort to find. But I really enjoy 90s music as well.

#47 Posted by PrivateIronTFU (3874 posts) -

Every time I think of 90s music, I think of:

'Do do do......do do-do do      Do do do.....do do-do do'

Damn you, Third Eye Blind!
#48 Posted by iam3green (14390 posts) -
