Have you ever heard that saying? Where if you be too nice to a girl your interested in. She'll end up taking advantage of you or see you only as a friend. That's pretty much what happen to a friend of mine. He was in a relationship with a girl from high school.

He love her he would do anything for her. Buy her nice things, give her money, take her places, he paid for her medical bills when she was sick, everything. One time he even save her from getting raped by her abusive ex boyfriend crazy friends. He got he's asswhipped badly but he was glad that he helped her.

One day when I was at he's house. He was talking about marrying her, starting a family and taking her on a trip. I told him that I felt like she was using you and you shouldn't trust her. He didn't believe me and just ignored what I said. Later on that day we went to the mall to go to gamestop.

On are way to gamestop. We spot he's girlfriend making out with her ex abusive boyfriend at one of the stores in the mall. My friend flip the fuck out started yelling and rush towards the guy. Until the guy showed he was packing a gun. He's girlfriend started crying saying she was sorry and other stuff. The ex boyfriend laughed and said I own her.

I had to hold my friend to keep him from rushing towards the guy. After the ex boyfriend stop talking shit he left with my friends girlfriend, and sense that day he never seen her again. He hasn't been the same sense.

I always misinterpreted that saying as the nice guys always win at the end.

Lady needs to prioritize and consider her actions. Yo friend somewhat fits with my misinterpretation since it's for the best. He will find someone. Time is nothing.

I was too nice to my ex boyfriend, turns out that was a bad idea.

No, that's just an excuse for your inability to act. Usually it's what people who let others walk all over them say.

There are no "nice guys" and there are no "gold diggers". Everyone is trying to get something out of someone.

There are only dumb people who aren't realistic. Don't try to get with dumb people and you'll be okay.

@falserelic: You can be "nice" and still be "alpha." They aren't mutually exclusive, but nicer guys tend to be boring.

I don't know, I've maintained being a nice guy when it comes to girls, and the only two I've ever wanted to date both developed into pretty stable and happy relationships for me.  The first one lasted 5 years until I moved about 1000 miles away and he wasn't willing to continue a long distance relationship.  The second one is at 4 years and still going.  I do pretty well for myself by not being an asshole.

It's kind of amazing how that text is structured.

Seems to me like the girl has bigger problems if she's being harassed by some psycho ex with a gun. Making anything her fault at this point doesn't seem very cogent.

Did the word "his" touch you inappropriately when you were younger?

#13 Posted by WarlordPayne (573 posts) - 10 months, 27 days ago

I don't think "Nice guys finish last" is limited to relationship stuff, in fact the first thing that usually pops into my head when I hear it is business related stuff.

Also, that bitch is crazy and your friend should be happy he got out of that without any serious injuries, and move on.

Me personally I don't believe in relationships. Most of the times they never workout between people.

Sometimes "nice guys" become weirdos who put the woman they like on a pedestal and get very possessive and creepy, nobody wants that. But it sounds like your friends girlfriend got murdered, RIP.

The best part about life is when I can be a total dick to people, on purpose, and they like me.

I mean what the fuck.

I yelled at a girl once and she went off and cried and then she came back and was like "Lol you're funny xD we should hang out sometime"

I wouldn't say that "nice guys finish last," at least not in the same way that you're saying it. I'd say that men of action finish first, which may be nice guys or jerks. If you're nice to a girl but never take action, then how can she know that it's more than just a brother/sister thing? You've got to grab a girl and kiss her, not ask her if you're allow to do it. It might make her feel uncomfortable if you ask. But you also have to know the girl. You've got to learn the read the moment and not act like an idiot or a horndog. If you're out with 10 friends, it's a bad idea, obviously. But if you're walking her to the door by yourself, then that might be a good chance to kiss her, unless she's in a rush to head inside. If she lingers, then that's your sign.

Unfortunately, and somewhat paradoxically, the people who are "realistic" and accept things at face value tend to be the stupidest of all, further confusing the matter.

In this situation, as in most others, really, the best thing you can do is ignore very old sayings and follow your heart, your gut instincts, whatever you want to call it. Deliberately acting in a way contrary to your own nature does not solve anything.

I do believe certain girls are attracted to total assholes, why? I have no fucking clue and don't give a shit. The girls that are worth holding on to are the ones who see the benefits in a nice guy. Nice guys provide an important relationship puzzle piece, stability. Just don't confuse being nice with being a total pushover.

#25 Edited by Sooty (6705 posts) - 10 months, 27 days ago

No I don't because of course it's not true as not every girl likes the same things or reacts the same way.

It's a fucking stupid saying said only by guys who are butthurt over being hurt.

I'm the complete opposite of my friend. Besides I had a psychotic girlfriend once. Who was obsess over me and wouldn't leave me alone. She would always think I was cheating, call me alot everyday, buy gifts I didn't want, cook for me, she would cry because I didn't give her enough attention. She even use to watch me sleep.

But the one thing she did that made me snap. Is when she threaten to kill me and my family if I left her. She tried to hit me with an object. I got so pissed off I grab her by the neck and slammed her against the wall and cussed her out, and I said pretty mean things I regretted. I left her and a few days later she tried to kill herself. I felt very bad afterwards.

I'm sorry, but the way you wrote that just makes the story hilarious. Also the guy saying "I own her" is hilarious too.

#44 Edited by Harkat (1030 posts) - 10 months, 27 days ago

Yeah, kinda. I think women (in general and in my experience) tend to be attracted to men with buckets of confidence and assertiveness, even if it's channeled in negative ways. A lot of guys with these traits are kinda dicks and it's a shame their shitty behavior is rewarded.

The solution for your buddy probably shouldn't be turning into a jerk though.

My thoughts exactly. I'm surprised at how, uh, "seriously" this question and story are being handled. Maybe that's the joke and all you's guys are really fucking comic geniuses.
