I really am running our of space in my room, I have so many DVD's and Blu Rays everywhere. I also have a Sly Box in my room which I pay for monthly but hardly ever watch, I was wondering whether in my position it would be a good thing to have.

It depends. How deeply are you immersed in the Apple lifestyle? I have a pretty rocking' Apple TV setup, with all of my movies and TV shows ripped and properly tagged in iTunes. But honestly if you're not into that you would be better off with a Boxee Box or a Roku 2.

I'm not to much of an Apple Fanboy, I have zero movies on iTunes but thats only because I don't want to watch movies on my Mac or iPhone. I have a decent TV and it is much more comfortable watching them on there.

If you have a Mac and an iPhone I suppose you should go ahead and get an Apple TV. It will play nice with the rest of your setup. If you download Handbrake you can rip your DVDs with the "Apple TV 2" setting and they will play excellent. And if you pick up a program called iVI from the Mac App Store it will automatically tag your movies and import them into iTunes.

iVI will also convert MKV files to a format that will play nice with your Apple TV, but I suggest using Handbrake. The quality on iVI conversions tends to be kind of bad.

If you're prepared to invest in iTunes and rip all your movies onto iTunes and actively sort them (name, artwork, genre) then yeah you should get an Apple TV

Do it man, you're already in the eco-system. Might wait for the Apple TV 3 though. The 2 was announced with the iPods last year right?  Then yeah, looks like the start of October is when shit will be happening for Apple TV, iPhone and iPods.

@ShaunassNZ: MacLife or some outlet like that did a story early in the week that an Apple TV refresh for this year was seeming pretty unlikely. And really, what more would they add? $99 Seems like the sweet spot for the product and they won't keep that price point by adding storage.

Sure, no law, but it's quite irritating to see the same avatar for 6 different threads on the main forum page

also, the more threads you create the less people take your topics seriously. Just a pro-tip, bro!

Allow me to necro...

I was thinking about buying an Apple TV because I put an old TV in my room and wanted something to watch movies with. Someone at work sold me (for cheap) a Roku 2 so I thought I'd just use that. Then I thought, well now I can watch Giant Bomb stuff on Roku because there is an app on there. Watching quicklooks and stuff on my TV is great.... the snag is it only seems to store the last 20 or so quicklooks and, from what I can tell, I can't watch the older ones.

So... to get to my question... does Apple TV have a dedicated Giant Bomb app like the Roku does? If so, can you watch any and everything? I read that you can Airplay stuff. I've never done that before but, from what I understand, you have to play it on your phone or ipad and send it to your TV which sounds like more work than I want to do to watch a quicklook.

Thanks! (if anyone actually answers my question)

@handlas:

The GiantBomb Video Buddy App that one of the users made is perfect for using with the apple tv. It's very simple to use and stream video from the iPad/iPhone to the Apple TV. I do this all the time to watch quick looks and premium content.

I've had my AppleTV for about 2 and a half years or so. If you have any questions just holler.
