Corot-7b. This is way cool. There has been nearly 300 planets discovered, but none of which have been solid. This is the first solid planet to be discovered outside our Solar System. Don't get you hopes up, though. It's unlikely there's life there, as it's 3,600 degrees hot. However, they're saying that it's very similar to our planet. Just to close to the sun.

European Scientists Finds First Rocky Planet Outside Solar System
" note left out by OP. Photo is artist rendering, for those who wouldn't have known. "Yeah, I should probably mention that
" Ohh it's from fox News...Ohh well it was nice while it lasted. "So if the content was exactly the same but the site was different, it would be better?
Logic.

I would love for humanity to be as advanced as the space marines from warhammer 40,000
That would be sweeet

" 3,600 degrees is nothing. I've been in saunas hotter than that! "You mean when you look into the mirror?

" Why do they keep giving those awesome looking planets such shitty names? >_> "I've always wondered this as well.

" I read somewhere that the planet doesn't spin on it's axis like ours so 1 side is constantly in bright sun with 3,600 degrees while the other side is always in darkness and is cold. So maybe you could hang out somewhere in the middle and it'd be aiiight. "Then you'd have a green looking ring that went across the boundary between hot/cold. Like a Halo! :O

I wonder what material the planet is mostly made of. Will we ever see a future where we're sending ships of people to distant planets to mine it's resurces!? Because if so I'd totally go.

What if that used to be "Earth" and then aliens saw that it's "sun" was getting too hot and fled to what is now our Earth and started life over...........!!!
" awesome. Maybe if they will find an earth like planet then maybe, just maybe it will encourage all the nations to have a unified space program. "I wish this could happen but, it just sounds like a political disaster.

Yeah I'm working on that bit.
"If Vin Diesel taught me anything, all you have to do is outrun the sun and you can totally chill on that there planet. "
no, Vin Diesel taught you that staying in the dark attracts period-sniffing man-eating alien bat things.
" @Black_Rose said:Jupiter's moons are the best bet we have for habitable planets. So you don't have to go very far to find potential habitable spaces. Hell, Europa could even have aquatic life."Why do they keep giving those awesome looking planets such shitty names? >_> "Because George lucas already stole tatooine. And i know theres millions , if not trillions, of planets out there, but it is kinda sad this is only the first rocky one. "

" @Mordukai said:True, it would never happen unless there was an impending disaster or something. Also If we do find a habitable planet outside the solar system we are still fucked =/ It would take hundreds of years going light speed to get to any habitable planet so its not feasable yet anyways. Until we develop FTL travel, thats Faster Than Light =P Wormholes or subspace bubbles or something like that haha." awesome. Those things are real right?
nice, i was actually thinking about something like this. NASA/ scientist should make a special spacesuit that can change temperatures just like that. it could lead us to people going on other planets that we already know of. so lets say a planet is 3,000 degrees then the suit would change temperature to -2,950. the temperature would be 50 degrees. i know it wouldn't be something like that but it would be cool.
" @Xeiphyer said:Yeah, im thinking its going to have to be alien technology.
