I actually just did, it was weird.  I was in this dream, then myself and my friends went to bed and had another dream where we were the cast of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  Then we all woke up and were at a wedding.

Anyone else ever have this dream within a dream experience?

Had a dream once, when I was extremely little, that some kind of monster was attacking people in the middle of a street and Danny Glover was hiding me from it behind a police car while shooting at it.  Proceeded to wake up in my room, look over, and find the same monster staring me in the face.  Proceeded to wake up AGAIN, yelling out loud as I did so, and then get out of my room very quickly just in case.

@miningguyx360:  Yeah, thats called somthing...ummm what was it now. Basically, you did wake up but there's a chemical released during sleep that causes you to hallucinate, you woke up but the chemical was still in your system causing you to perceive reality as a dream.  You often feel like you cannot move also while crazy shit happens as you lie there hallucinating, its pretty fucking scary.

Not too long ago I was in a dream of a multitude of depths, false awakenings over and over, it eventually came to the point were I was literally screaming to let me out.

When I finally woke up it took a good 2 hours before I was convinced I was actually awake.

Nope, can't say I have. Read plenty about it, though. A Dream Within A Dream - by Edgar Allan Poe was the first time I heard about this phenomenon. I thought back then it was mere fiction. Lucid dreams occur more regurlarly to me. It happens mostly when I'm extremely tired. After I lay down in bed I immediately fall asleep and start dreaming (the most incoherent dreams). The Dutch psychiatrist Frederik van Eeden was the first who came up with the term.

@Zabant:
I think that happened to me once a long time ago.  I was little and my sister had a pet bird, which I was really scared of for some reason.  And I had a dream that my brother and sister where torturing me with the bird, and I woke up and saw the bird right at the end of my bed.  I jumped out of bed and ran into the hallway.  Looking into my room, the bird was still there.  So I went into my sisters room to see if the cage door was open, but it wasn't and the exact bird that was apparently on my bed was right in the cage sleeping.  I had no idea what was going on, so I went out into the hallway and sat against the wall, scared for awhile.  Then I decided to look into my room and the bird was gone.  I cautiously got into bed.  Needless to say, I didnt get much sleep that night.

Yes, and recently too. Not only that, I WAS AWARE THAT I WAS DREAMING. So I kept telling myself, you're dreaming, try not to wake up. But then I did wake up, and told myself I'm not sleeping, but little did I know that in the real world, I was still dreaming. So I had lucid dreams within my dreams (Which I didn't know were dreams).

A few times. Once when I was like 15 it was like that Star Trek Voyager episode where Chokotay keep waking up but every time he realizes it's still a dream. Talk about a mind-fuck.

Yeah, I've been having false awakenings pretty regularly lately. Like waking up in my dream and telling someone about the dream I just had, then actually waking up and telling someone about the dream within a dream I just had.

Actually you don't have a dream within a dream. It's just that one dream where you dream you have a dream. Get it?

Just once that I can recall. I'm not going to go into the specifics though, since it was of a, umm..."explicit" nature, but at some point I was dreaming both "levels" of the dream at the same time and it was fucking trippy as hell; like being two places at once.

It was shortly after watching Jurassic Park for the first time when I was a kid. In the dream my mom asked me to go down stairs to get something out of the freezer, but when I opened the door to walk into the basement I saw that it had become a jungle, and I saw the freezer at the end of the clearing like the scene with the guy hunting the raptor in the movie. Well just like in that scene I slowly sneak up to the freezer, because in the dream I KNOW that my basement is full of raptors and that I know they hunt in packs so I needed to be quick or I will get swarmed.

Well I get to the freezer reach in and get the thing I needed with no problems, but when I close the lid I'm face to face with a raptor. So I turn and start to run away, but then the basement does that long stretchy thing where the door keeps getting further and further away as I run towards it. I can actually feel the breath of the raptor on my back and I can feel and hear them chomping at my feet as I run away only to turn around and in slow motion see the raptor leaping into the air as it comes down on top of me and it uses it's claw to gash open my stomach like what's his name said raptors did to scare that kid at the start of the movie.

Then as the raptor rears back and howls to the pack to let them know it's time to feast, it digs into my stomach and starts eating my insides while I watch it screaming and fighting back with what little strength I had. I wake up.

I realize it's just a dream and roll over to turn off my alarm, but when I look over I'm face to face with a snarling raptor. Then I woke up for real as it opened it's mouth and was about to bite down on my head.

First and only time I ever woke up and was actually scared from a dream.

Yes, although I lucid dream so mine are pretty great and sometimes creepy.
When I have layered dreams generally how it happens is I try to wake myself up (all lucid dreamers, so i'm told, have an exit). Sometimes this doesn't work and I end up in a dream where I'm stuck in bed and can't move.
It usually comes coupled with some weird feeling like I'm being watched but since I cant move I cant see anything and I struggle for about 15 seconds then I wake up for real. I usually don't go back to sleep for awhile when that happens.

Nope, but I do have these ones all the time. Forgive me this is going to be toolish; I had one where I was sleeping but I knew I was sleeping and I was in the gym doing bench's trying to get the weight up so I could wake myself up. But the entire time I was like consciously awake but still sleeping trying so hard to wake myself up within the dream. That shit was scarey because I NEW I was dreaming trying to wake up myself but I couldn't.

you don't dream in a dream. In the dream you "go to sleep" but really the only thing that is happening is the dream scene changing.
