They just decided one day to lock my account. I can't get back in. They want me to send them a picture of some sort of I.D. The thing is I don't have anything they have listed. I also don't feel comfortable sending a picture of my social security card. They won't let me in at all. I tried changing my password several times and they still refuse to let me in.

Also the reason I don't have any sort of government Id is because I'm in high school and I was going to get my driver license later.

It's probably for the best.

#3 Posted by LD50 (416 posts) -

Wow, and no idea why? They didn't give you any reasons?

#4 Posted by iAmJohn (6108 posts) -

I'm not surprised.

They want your ID and social security card? That doesn't sound very legitimate. Actually, I believe it's illegal for a business to ask for your social security card unless it's for a job or something like that. If it isn't illegal, it's at least very frowned upon. Don't give up your social security number.

Good riddance. You don't really need it.

they did you a favor

#8 Edited by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

This is what it tells me.

Then it ask for some sort of government id. Which I don't have any of.

#9 Posted by Willtron (243 posts) -

It really is for the best. But if you want your account back, just sign up for a new one? As stated, the social security card thing is hella illegal. Don't be surprised if your shit got hacked, or something.

#10 Posted by LD50 (416 posts) -

You wouldn't by any chance be signed up as Sexy Toad?

#11 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

I'm also not signed up as SexyToad, haha.

#12 Posted by Dagbiker (6939 posts) -

How do you not have any government I.D.?

#13 Posted by Hizang (8534 posts) -

Being freed from the shackles of Facebook is a good thing, think of all that time you spent on Facebook.

#14 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) -

Dude, they did you a favor. Don't even look back.

@SexyToad: Don't give up your SSN for any reasons besides a job application or something. Facebook isn't worth it by a long shot.

#17 Posted by hakunin (384 posts) -

This sounds EXTREMELY suspicious....

#18 Posted by Hunter5024 (5541 posts) -

I guess you got hacked or something? That's pretty shitty. Don't send them your social security card. Also, try logging in from a different browser/computer, maybe it's some kind of elaborate phishing scheme (unlikely, but worth a shot).

If this account reflects your real name and personal information, please help us verify it

Sounds like you have something silly as your name, if its not SexyToad it must be something else. This coupled with them asking for your ID card is them trying to prove your real name, you're own fault really for putting a silly name up. I never really got why people did that.

#20 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

I don't have a fake name on Facebook. My user name is my actual name.

I don't think it's really that suspicious. I've had to give scans of my credit cards and passports for poker security before.

Yeah, Bioware does that too for SWTOR (Ask for proof of who you are)
Bunch of MMO devs do that actually, Blizzard does it too.

But hey, shit happens!
If you can't do what they ask then I guess just make another Facebook account or don't make a new one at all and find a new site like it.
I hear MySpace is a hit! :P

@haffy: Poker is about gambling and possibly winning money so it makes sense to require ID in some cases. Facebook is just a free social networking website.

#24 Edited by living4theday258 (678 posts) -

For no reason? wow... I deleted my account a while back and haven't really missed it at all.

#25 Posted by hakunin (384 posts) -

Have tried to email official Facebook support or whatever?

Suddenly being blocked and requiring personal information... there's a lot of red flags coming up for me here.

If your worried about phishing you should call facebook directly. But if you would rather facebook sell your Social Security number to the highest bidder rather then a poor thug selling it. Then I implore you to keep feeding them information.

That's most likely age verification

Most people don't have one until they get their drivers license, which he doesn't have yet.

Your name doesn't happen to be Farty McRaperpants? Man, hell of a party we threw last week in that case. And would also explain why Facebook doubt it's your real name.

lol poker company's do not give a shit about your age until you withdraw money. I've just had to verify my account a few times because I used to transfer money between sites with my friend and people on twoplustwo forums.

Hmm, yeah it's understandable for poker sites. But Facebook is a pretty big deal now. Identity/information theft is a pretty common now.

#33 Posted by Falx (345 posts) -

My mum couldnt get on her gmail cause she put an age date that was under 13 or something and we (I) had to send them a scan of her passport to verify her age.

#34 Posted by DriveupLife (909 posts) -

You obviously did something suspicous that facebook didn't like kid, go get an ID if you want your account back or just don't.

#35 Posted by Xeiphyer (5594 posts) -

Just make another account and re-add everyone I guess. I wouldn't bother sending them pictures of anything.

#36 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

I'm probably just going to stop using Facebook... I spend a lot of time on GiantBomb anyways.

#37 Posted by Dagbiker (6939 posts) -

Have some one else look up your profile on another computer to make sure it isnt a virus.

Social Security cards are not a form of ID and it is indeed illegal to ask for it as a form of ID. I doubt a company like facebook wouldn't be aware of this, so I'm sure the OP misread or didn't understand what they wanted.

Also, high schooler without an ID? Doesn't it only cost 20 bucks? I hope you never have some emergency where you have to get to another city fast (flying)

#39 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

My Facebook doesn't even show up anymore. I checked my sister's phone and it doesn't even show me. I tried searching for me and nothing. So Facebook hid my account too.

#40 Posted by LD50 (416 posts) -

You didn't start any second amendment threads did you? Just kidding.

I'm not a huge fan of FB either. It has just become the place my ex-girlfriends and old high school acquaintances go to brag/bitch about the least important things in the universe. Which is the opposite here at Giant Bomb...right guys? So screw them and hang wit us.

#41 Posted by Jeust (10473 posts) -

You are too sexy for Facebook!

#42 Posted by TobbRobb (4579 posts) -

Hang with us here instead! Forget about that old thing!

#43 Posted by JJWeatherman (14557 posts) -

How about a birth certificate? Surely you have one of those.

#44 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

The thing with a birth certificate is that if I was to choose that I will also have to send them another form of "secondary id" which would be social security crd, passport, and school I'd which I had but threw away since I was going to get another one soon. Anyways I'm just going to spend my time here.

#45 Posted by Dagbiker (6939 posts) -

You can usually use lots of things as a secondary ID. If you have a work ID, tax form, school grades transcript, or even something like a library card, that would probably work.

But if you want to just spend time here instead, then that's cool, too. Just make sure not to spend too much time here. Trust me on this one.

#47 Posted by LD50 (416 posts) -

You're welcome.

#48 Posted by SexyToad (2760 posts) -

Haha that's going on my mini bio.

#49 Posted by ItBeStefYo (1021 posts) -

@SexyToad: So you're NOT a sexy toad? My mind is blown.

Anyway I think you should take a stand and complain to facebook, phone them or something or as a last resort make a new account

Congrats!
