Can anyone recommend any decent rock/bands thats come out in the last year+

I've fallen massively out of the loop. The last album I got was Billy Talent - Dead Silence. Before that I can't even remember.

Is Uno! actually any good? Don't bother replying to that if your 'internet' cool.

I've quickly scanned the thread and I'll have to get Coheeds new album and Mumfords. I'l keep looking but obv haven't heard of half of it.

Coheed & Cambria's The Afterman: Ascension. Such a killer album, absolutely can't wait for the second half, Descension to drop in February. Also Gojira's new beast of a record and Cannibal Corpse's Torture.

Lots of great taste in this thread. Was kind of surprised to see people namedrop bands like Behold... The Arctopus and Yakuza and stuff. Giant Bomb just gets cooler and cooler.

But the real answer?

Dysrhythmia - Test of Submission

Just gets more and more stunning with every listen. Technically, it's utterly bonkers. Demented math-rock, but the actual music itself doesn't suffer. The music itself speaks volumes, it's so emotive and beautiful despite being so dissonant and all over the place. And it has lovely production too! I'd highly recommend it to... Well.. Anyone, provided they're not afraid of a bit of dissonance. It's truly staggering music.

Edit: Fuck it, full album stream here. Listen to it in its entireity, and if you like it, buy it and support these guys! It's on Bandcamp, and it's worth getting a lossless version for the gorgeous production. Seriously fucking listen to this!!

Edit Edit: Also, eff yeah, OP. Advaitic Songs is wonderful. Blisses me out every time. Those guys know what it's all about...

Yellow and Green by Baroness tops the list, other albums out from this year that are awesome are Time I by Wintersun, Apocryphon by The Sword, Blunderbuss by Jack White, Now for Plan A by The Tragically Hip and Soundgarden's new album comes out in a few weeks.

Devin Townsend Project's 'Epicloud' stole the show for me this year. But Stone Sour's 'House of Gold and Bones' was unexpectedly enjoyable.

Brasstronaut - Mean Sun. Mean Sun is probably my album of the year (sorry Devin). Brasstronaut took their indie-jazz sound into ambient territory, and it couldn't have turned out better.

Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud (& Epiclouder)

Anneke van Giersbergen - Everything is Changing

Flying Colors - Flying Colors

Rush - Clockwork Angels

Meshuggah - Koloss

Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence

Coheed and Cambria - The Afterman: Ascension

Jeff Pearce - In The Season of Fading Light

Baroness - Yellow & Green

Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion

I'm listening to Storm Corrosion (Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson), and that's probably gonna end up on this list too.

EDIT: Storm Corrosion is definitely on this list, near the top. I was not expecting what that album is at all. And I forgot about Baroness' Yellow and Green, so that's there now too.

Cattle Decapitation - Monolith of Inhumanity

Anaal Nathrakh - Vanitas

Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme

Pig Destroyer - Book Burner

Desecravity - Implicit Obedience

Bastard Sapling - Dragged From Our Restless Trance

Judd Madden - Artesian You can legally get it for free from his Bandcamp. Give him money though. It's good.

I was going to post earlier but I had a ton of stuff I wanted to hear first. I've still got a decent backlog to go through so this might not even be the complete list. It's been an absolutely legendary year.

I'm usually a lurker, but I saw this thread and needed to say check out Crystal Kay's Vivid. It's my favorite album of the year, and an amazing comeback for her after switching labels.

I'm not sure if it's on my list yet but anyone who likes tech-death needs to check out Cytotoxin's new album that came out yesterday. Here's a song from it. You can get it for $12 from the label here. It's really solid. I need to get their first album now.

looking through this thread of albums i have largely never heard of (and mostly dislike after researching and listening to their highly specialized and nearly unpalatable sound) makes me finally understand how people felt about me when I told them what my favorite albums of the year were in 1993 when I was 14 years old. i guess that makes me officially old. i've listened to 3 albums released in 2012, and very few have mentioned them. enjoy your oblivious youth, kids.

I don't listen to lot of modern music it seems. Although would need to mention Clockwork Angles and Gojira's new album. Not heard the new The Sword yet.

edit. Actually Paradise Lots's Tragic Idol was from this year as well. Not too bad that.

Katatonia's Dead End Kings is the best they've sounded since Viva Emptiness.

The new Ihsahn album was sick beyond belief, it might be my favorite from this year.

Sigh's In Somniphobia was really solid though Sigh is always solid so that goes without saying.

Diablo Swing Orchestra's Pandora's Pinata is fantastic.

Soundgarden's new album King Animal is pretty awesome, especially after a 16 year break between records. It was the last one I was looking forward to this year. RNDM's album Acts came out of nowhere for me but I'm really digging it. List for this year is:

-Yellow and Green by Baroness

-Acts by RNDM

-King Animal by Soundgarden

-Apocryphon by The Sword

-At Transformation by The Tragically Hip

-Time I by Wintersun

There's been a few others I've enjoyed but wouldn't count them among my favourites for this year.

Adding Crystal Castles - (III) to my list.

Also, all of Portishead's stuff, as I'm the last person alive to discover them, apparently. They're not from this year, but I just now heard them.

The new POS, Passion Pit, and Japandroids albums were all great.

Kishi Bashi's debut is also fantastic.

But my favorite albums of the year will probably have to be The Church of Rock N Roll by Foxy Shazam and The Glorious Dead by The Heavy.

"Honor Found In Decay" by Neurosis, "I Bet On Sky" by Dinosaur Jr. and "PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone" by John Frusciante are in my definite Top 3 this year.
