I must say that the Muppets Christmas Carol has been my favorite since I was a kid. Michael Caine is a pretty solid Scrooge and I'm a sucker for The Muppets in general (I went and saw the most recent film two years ago and got a kick out of it). Oh and this scene will forever be stuck in my head:
Favorite Christmas movie?
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation is probably my favourite movie for the holidays. It's actually a family tradition to watch it every year. I also really like the Polar Express. We've watched that one every Christmas since we got it as well.
The Ref.
One of my favorite quotes:
Caroline: I had this dream...
Lloyd: Do we have to do dreams?
Caroline: I'm in this restaurant, and the waiter brings me my entree. It was a salad. It was Lloyd's head on a plate of spinach with his penis sticking out of his ear. And I said, "I didn't order this." And the waiter said, "Oh you must try it, it's a delicacy. But don't eat the penis, it's just garnish."
Dr. Wong: Lloyd, what do you think about the dream?
Lloyd: I think she should stop telling it at dinner parties to all our friends.
@jiggajoe14: yea, Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my old stand-by's. Just watched it the other night with my neice who was seeing it for the first time ever. Plus it's got Michael Caine in it as the be-all end-all Scrooge performance.
@rawknro11a: That's pretty awesome. Hope she liked it!
@believer258: Die Hard is awesome. I love seeing people argue about whether it qualifies as a Christmas movie or not lol :p.
- Die Hard and Die Hard 2
- Lethal Weapon
- Bad Santa
- Santa's Slay
- Home Alone 1 and 2
- Jingle All the Way
- The Ref
- The Long Kiss Goodnight ('cause I'm a bad motherfucker... If you love that movie you'll get the reference)
- National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
- Trading Places
@stonyman65: Isn't Santa's Slay that Bill Goldberg movie with the ridiculous intro scene?
@stonyman65: I forgot The Long Kiss Goodnight. That was another. Amazing Christmas movie.
I should also mention Scrooged.
@luciddreams117: I also love The Santa Clause.
"It is Santa! ...You killed him."
@luciddreams117: The first one was fine. The sequels though man.
That movie is actually kinda morbid. Tim Allen accidentally kills Santa Claus, decides to take his clothes and sleigh, and then goes on a joy ride around the world. And then takes the guy's house!
Yeah, I think the first Santa Claus is a good movie. The sequels are absolute trash, don't watch those, but the first one is good.
1.) It's a Wonderful Life
2.) A Christmas Story
3.) Die Hard
4.) Gremlins
5.) Love Actually or Christmas Vacation, can't decide.
@ezakael: Christmas Vacation is also a tradition in my house growing up that I have carried on to my wife and our new household
The first two Home Alone movies.
Saw parts of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation for the first time a couple of weeks ago, now I really want to see the whole thing, I'm sure it'll be a hoot.
If you guys think the sequels to The Santa Clause are bad, you should watch Christmas Vacation 2. You'll want to die.
Also my favorite Christmas movie is probably Love, Actually. I love that irresistibly charming movie.
@psylah: I mean...I love that movie, but that's kinda depressing lol.
I have to say It's a Wonderful Life always makes me tear up at little at the end. A close second is the Rankin/Bass Production of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" because when you hear narrator Burl Ives you KNOW it is Christmas.
Watch this fuckin trailer and tell me that Die Hard isn't the greatest Christmas movie ever made:
None of this happy go lucky tiny tim bullshit, none of this incompetent burglary bullshit, just straight up Christmas fuck you spirit.

Hell yes! I don't like Polar Express though...
I just recently watched the shining again, it may be lacking in Christmas cheer, but its got plenty of snowy weather to match the time of year XD
The Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol/Scrooge. It is literally the best Christmas movie ever.
Either Die Hard or It's A Wonderful Life. I love both movies.
Both of these.
Tokyo Godfathers. Hell goddamn yeah.
Die Hard and Christmas Vacation are watch every Christmas kind of movies. Nightmare Before Christmas, Home Alone, and Love actually are good every few years. I seem to be in the minority among people that I know, but I cannot stand watching Elf.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
I thought that was about Thanksgiving.

Fuck.
Well there's snow. CHRISTMAS.

I like the cut of your jib.
IDK if I agree with the order, but this line-up simply puts all of the other lists to shame. (my own included)
...also "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". (put it in place of "Santa's Slay")
This is the list.
@tsutohiro: I'm pretty sure Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a Thanksgiving movie. Still, I'd count it as a holiday-season movie for what that's worth.
I may be a bit of a grinch on this, but I don't consider Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns, etc... "Christmas movies", because while they may take place at Christmas time, the holiday itself has nothing to do with the movie's plot. They could have easily taken place during the Forth of July with limited changes. For me, Christmas movies should be about Christmas and all the traditional elements associated with the holiday. I am probably old fashioned but that would include the spirit of giving and "peace on Earth, goodwill toward men." Now, I believe that Die Hard is the second greatest action movie of all time, but I would not describe it as a Christmas movie. Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, The Bishop's Wife, Holiday Inn, Bad Santa, Scrooged, Christmas in Connecticut, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Arthur's Christmas, and Elf are examples of movies I would say easily qualify by my personal definition.
Anyway, my favorite is Miracle on 34th Street (1948).

This, and Die Hard.
Either Die Hard or It's A Wonderful Life. I love both movies.
