Share your favorite stand-ups in this thread. I've taken quite a liking to Louis C.K, Dave Chapelle during the early 00's and George Carlin.

I could list off a bunch of straight stand-up guys I have / do love - Russell Peters, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams ect ect but I'll throw this out there instead

#3 Posted by PSNgamesun (413 posts) -

george carlin in the 90s n 00s, also chris rock before he became political.

Louis CK, Dave Chapelle, Bill Burr, Patric O'Neal (RIP) are my favorites... now. It's tough. I love stand up a lot and I've had my favorites all time like Chris Rock, Dave Attell, Bill Cosby... but right now these are my dudes.

I think Bill Burr is really underrated. Out of all the stand ups really out there touring right now, the only one I think you could say is better is Louis CK (but I prefer Burr). He is incredible live. He also has a great podcast.

Agree with you on C.K. & Carlin. I also Like Eddie Murphy, Patrice O'Neal, Jim Jeffries, & Mitch Hedberg. I have others, just can't think of them.

Man, I do not get the appeal of Louis C.K.

The fact that Hicks hasn't been posted is a fucking tragedy.

#12 Posted by rentfn (1288 posts) -

@Coombs: He is on this season of Californication. I was wondering who he was. He is pretty funny on that show. He is basically that Character.

Mitch Hedberg (RIP)

#14 Posted by Animasta (14719 posts) -

uh, if it's a single comedian/stand up thing then I guess I'll go with stewart lee

#15 Posted by Geralt (333 posts) -

Mitch Hedberg, Marc Maron and Anthony Jeselnik.

The legendary guys aside.

#16 Edited by Sursh (243 posts) -

anthony jeselnik, has to be my favorite. his dark anti humor has me in stitches. louise ck is ok, he's like a "sort of funny" jerry seinfeld, who incidentally wasn't very funny.

Wait...So George Carlin at his most political, but not Chris Rock at his?

Maybe he's just not funny now, I can't say for sure, I haven't seen anything after Bigger and Blacker. Overall good taste in this thread so far. I'll throw out a few unmentioned ones:

Todd Glass

Paul F. Tompkins

Jen Kirkman

The Sklar Brothers (these guys are such fucking pros, ridiculously funny and super nice after the show)

Are you a guy who listens to comedy podcasts? Your taste in stand ups suggests that.

You're on my cool list either way.

I like Paul F Thompkins, Mike Birbiglia, Louis C.K., Demetri Martin, Daniel Tosh, and all the classics. I try and avoid the ones that get too political, which can be very difficult.

#22 Posted by ShadowConqueror (3085 posts) -

Eugene Mirman is pretty funny.

#23 Posted by TopSteer (677 posts) -

I used to like Mitch Hedberg, I still do but I used to too.

#24 Posted by Apparatus_Unearth (3245 posts) -

You guys have Louis CK pretty well covered, but he gets my vote.

#25 Posted by Meltac (2007 posts) -

Came in to post some Ricky Gervais, Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly, but Fattony12000 already posted some great things with those three, so check out his post.

Another favorite of mine is a Dane (Christian Fuhlendorff), so there's no point in posting his stuff.

Hot college comic Blueberry head.

#28 Edited by FrankieSpankie (228 posts) -

@Coombs: Tim Minchin is such an underappreciated comedian, he really is hilarious. XD

My personal favorite is Jim Gaffigan. I do have a long list I could go through, but I'll just leave it to one.

#29 Posted by Osaladin (2543 posts) -

Easily Dave Chappelle.

How the fuck are you the only person who's mentioned this man. This thread is filled with philistines.

Same here, although I admit I don't think I've seen any of his regular standup. People keep talking about how great Louie is, but I tried watching it and couldn't make it more than 5 minutes.

Not exactly typical stand-up but one of my favorite comedians is Stephen Lynch.

Lewis Black, hands down. I'll try to post a video of some stuff by him later today.

This thread is great, I need more comedians to check out. Bill Burr is easily my favorite right now, you should watch his specials on Netflix!

#42 Posted by ohnobruno (85 posts) -

I picked up Kyle Kinane's two albums a few weeks ago and they absolutely blew me away. Best stuff I've heard in awhile.

Reggie Watts. Don't be thrown by the slow burn of it, you gotta watch the whole thing:

I'm actually not much of a stand-up fan, but I am going to see Craig Ferguson in a couple of weeks- can't wait, I love that guy.

#49 Posted by Atlas (2457 posts) -

Ross Noble is my favourite.
