I recently purchased the HD re-release of Next Generation and I'm absolutely amazed on how good the restoration looks. They basically retouched the entire 35mm film stock and somehow upgraded it to high def. The Enterprise and other ship models look just great. Now I'm thinking about jumping into Deep Space Nine again, something I haven't seen in years (I think it's on Amazon prime for free.)

So what was the best Trek series?

DS9 or TNG.

Those two you can argue over which comes out above the other, but they're easily top 2.

You can't go wrong with DS9 and TNG.

Most of ToS is great too, if you can look past how dated parts of it are.

TNG is undoubtedly the best. I've never seen Enterprise and I actually like Voyager more than DS9.

Weird. I just started to watch The Next Generation and, for some reason, I suddenly stumble across all these Star Trek discussions. Maybe they've always been there but I haven't noticed them before. I have never watched any Star Trek (before except from the 2009 movie) and I just finnished Encounter at Farpoint. I love it, so far.

Will Wheaton is a saint of a man and I wish him nothing but good fortune and happiness. However,I was just reminded how much that bratty, walking Deus Ex Machina Wesley Crusher sucked.

Overall? TNG followed by DS9 for very different reasons The original has a few really A+ episodes but overall its just a progressive 60s TV show.

TNG's the best. Well, as long as you stay away from seasons 1 and 2.

DS9 is great for its characters and its political drama. It has very few unwatchable episodes, but some of it feels a bit redundant because it focuses on the Bajor/Cardassia angle so much.

TNG is of course a classic, with a lot of great episodes but also quite a few hammy and unwatchable ones. I feel like people generally put on their rosiest of colored glasses when talking about TNG.

Voyager is a little inferior to either DS9 or TNG just by the virtue of its characters and writing, but it's still very good. It has its share of very memorable episodes and characters. If you haven't seen Voyager, you should rectify that.

Enterprise is sort of a curiosity. It's so different from all the others. I'd watch a few episodes and see if it hooks you. I stopped watching halfway through and haven't gone back.

TOS is a historical curiosity, worth watching every now and again. A few classic episodes hold up today.

My personal favorite is DS9, but I can see arguments for TNG or even Voyager.

DS9 is my favorite--I favor writing with a focus on characters, and DS9 had the best ones. Loved TNG and ToS. Voyager was good, but it was during its run that I got a bit exhausted of all things Trek (school started becoming a bigger focus at that time). Never watched Enterprise, so I don't have an opinion on it--other than the basic idea behind it could be cool, if done well.

TNG or Classic. I feel bad dropping DS9 but I wouldn't be saying anything if I listed TNG, Classic and DS9; so I'll give it an honorable mention instead. Classic is so high not because it's great but because I have so much fun watching it. As a side note, Enterprise not that bad.

Wow, I'm stunned DS9 is beating out Next Generation. Granted, I stopped watching Deep Space Nine very early in its run, and like TNG I'm sure later on it got a lot better. But still, I always felt like DS9 was the point when the Star Trek franchise planted its head firmly up its own ass. I mean Star Trek was already becoming very insular by that point, especially when there'd be a Next Generation episode that tried to connect back to the original series. But DS9 was ridiculous the way it alienated the casual viewer, as someone who has always had only a passing interest in Star Trek, that show was literally incomprehensible to me.

Keep in mind that it's been YEARS since I watched it. I liked DS9 because it did away with a lot of the insipid "Humanity/Starfleet is Super Awesome!" utopia that Roddenberry cooked up. He was an optimist by nature and I'm a cynical misanthropic bastard by nature.

TNG, but after the 4th season the series just starts to die and gets even worse after the 5th season. First season is good, but a lot of deus ex machina. Stupid Wes and his damn contraptions.

I've only watched TOS and I enjoy the silliness of it. I doubt there is a better character out of any of them as great as Spock. But I can understand people not liking it as much due to it being a product of its era but I like quite a few shows from back then. I'll have to give TNG a better try.

  1. DS9, it has some issues here and there, but overall, it is the best.
  2. TNG, it was just fun to watch.

The other ones, e.g., Voyager, Enterprise, ToS, are alright, but aren't shows that i could rewatch.

DS9, with TNG in second. I actually somehow managed to watch every episode of DS9 and TNG last year on Amazon Prime. Worf really makes both shows better.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. DS9 just had a wealth of unlikeable characters and a lot of it focused on Bajor and its religious politics, which completely bored the hell out of me.

Would have to go with TNG overall, though I enjoyed DS9 and Voyager nearly as much. DS9 got a little soap opera-y in spots in the back half, but at least they balanced that out with the Dominion War stuff. Didn't see enough of Enterprise to really form an opinion, though what I did see wasn't disgust-inducing to me like it seems to have been for a lot of people. But then, I don't know many people who liked Voyager a whole lot, either, and I thought it was a good show. The Original Series is a bit too dated for my tastes, though there are certainly still some good episodes. The movies are good fun, too, and generally superior to the TNG stuff. Well, with maybe the exception of The Search for Spock, which was just embarrassing.

TNG will always be my favorite. DS9 seems to be considered the most character-driven, but the characters of TNG have always been more interesting to me. Data's journey to discovering his own humanity and Worf's struggles with his Klingon/Federation loyalties (which never seemed to be addressed as much in DS9, or at least as seriously) are something I genuinely connected with more than anything in the other series.

I used to be a TNG voter until I actually sat down and watched all of TNG and all of DS9 in order. I still love TNG, but DS9 is a much, much better series.
