Favorite Video Game Ringtones

Hearing Jeff's badass text message tone in a billion different videos and having just upgraded has inspired me to customize my new phone a little bit, and having a video game sound effect seems perfect. Problem is, I'm completely blanking on any sounds that really stand out to me. The closest I've come to a decent one is the Capcom logo theme, but it's too long for a text tone, and too short for a ringtone:

What are your favorite video game ringtones/text message noises?

I use the MGS codec sound for my ringtone. Now every time the codec rings in an episode of Metal Gear Scanlon I get nervous.

I used the score item sound from DoDonPachi as my notification sound for a while. Now I'm using one of the notification pings from FFXIV.

For ringtones, I like to use a lot of old arcade game music (name entry tunes are usually pretty good for that) but right now I've got the Black Knight 2000 music.

My notification noise is the GBA start up sound and my ringtone is an 8-bit version of the Ducktales theme!

I use the ringtone from No More Heroes. It's pretty fantastic.

My notifications are the sound effect that plays when music notes pop out of someone's head in Persona 3/4 and my ringtone is currently the beginning of Sync from Fez.

My ringtone is the song that plays at the end of the co-op campaign in Portal 2, called Robots FTW.

It's super peppy and makes me happy just hearing it.

At one point I had the selection screen music for SMB 2. That was pretty awesome.

@ltsmash: I've heard the code sound used as a ringtone by people I'd never guess play videogames, let alone MGS. I used it for a while myself but it became too stressful. Recently I've been rocking the BioForge flute.

For years I've been trying to find the ringtone noise from Persona 4 to use as my text message ringer and have never been able to find it. So I used Cody's "BINGO" from Street Fighter 4.

My ringtone is the theme from GTA2. I need to find something cool to use for text notifications.

I've always liked the pager ring tone from GTA3.

I use the Persona 4 victory theme as my ringtone, but for texts, I use a little jingle from an anime called Air Gear.

Hell yeah, duder! Great choice. I found the "Beam Katana Fully Recharged" sound wasn't bad for an SMS notification sound, but it was too short for me to really notice.

I use a few different ones. My main ringtone is the GTA IV "Pager" ring, looped, which I guess is the GTA III pager sound and GTA 1 theme, if you want to go back a bit.

For SMS notifications, it depends on which of my friends are sending me smiley faces. I use the MGS1 "!" sound and the Unreal Tournament 1 healing sound.

Mine is currently the Steel Samurai theme from Phoenix Wright, but specifically the midi version that Phoenix uses as his ringtone.

For texts I use Joker's PA tone from Arkham Asylum

My ringtone has been Pleather for Breakfast from No More Heroes for years.

I like the Mario sound effects.

I also wake up to the Banko-kazooie theme in the morning

For general notifications I use the Metal Gear alert noise and for texts I have the Galaga extra ship noise. I am thinking about mixing them all up some time soon so maybe some of the suggestions will be good enough to steal!

The Overworld Theme from Zelda II. This theme really fucks with people because they think they know where its going, then bam, they get hit with something unexpected.

I use one of the chirp noises from Journey as my text message tone, it is awesome.

The only one I've ever been compelled to use is the scrubbing tune from Chibi-Robo for some reason.

For my general ringtone I use "In the Case of Trouble" by Darren Korb. It starts off right away, builds in a nice way, and it is highly unlikely I will hear it from any other source than my cellphone when I am out and about.

For my text messages and other notifications I somehow got the "C-A-G-E" whistle from Bioshock Infinite. Don't remember if I just found the source file on my own or found it online. Anyway, I got it in my dropbox right here if anyone wants it or just want to know what the hell I am talking about.

The Metal Gear codec is mine.

On my old phone, I had Grunt, err, grunting 'Shepard' as my text message tone. This is tempting me to put MGS sounds on my new phone though.....

Alert! from MGS was my text tone for a long time. But the past year or so I've just always left my phone on vibrate so no need to change it to that when I got a new phone a little while back.

I use Ryu's hadoken from sf2 for my text tone.

I just use the Final Fantasy VII win theme:

This right here is my text message tone.

Back when I had android I had the codec sound for text messages. I love receiving texts and some random guy around me yells out "SNAAAAAKE!" Great way to make a new friend.

My friend from high school and former roommate had the zelda theme for his text sound and after about 5 minutes of constant texting I told him to turn it off. Seriously I cant stand when people leave their ringtone on when in a texting conversation, its just rude!

I put my text notification as the sound effect when a throwing knife hits someone in CoD multiplayer because throwing knives at people is the most fun thing about that series to me at this point. Random, I know, but it makes me smile every time.

My ringtone is the old Apogee jingle.

I pretty much always have my phone muted, but I did copy the Trioptimum chime from System Shock as a notification/text message sound and had a song from Descent 2 as my ringtone for a short while (I don't even know what ringtone I have now, but I think it's some Amiga demoscene thing, but it's been years since I last had the ringtone volume up on it).

Used to use Akuma's stage music from 3rd Strike, "Killing Moon" as my ring tone. I felt it was starting to get a little obnoxious though so I switched over to "Gwyn, Lord of Cinder".

and my alert noise is the sound when Samus takes damage in the original NES. It's pretty subdued.

@jadegl: Oh my god, that Portal 2 song is so good, that would be one of those "I refuse to answer the phone because I'm too busy listening to the super happy song" ringtones for me.


I use Tookies Theme from Silent Hill Shattered Memories, I defy anyone to listen to this song and say it wasn't basically designed to be a ringtone, so good.

I also use the very beginning tone of Never Forgive me, Never forget me as my text tone, such a beautiful noise.

I'm currently using "Commlink Online", as said by the Goliath unit is Starcraft 2.

I'm also a big fan of the kill-confirm chirp from the Killzone games. It induces some lizard-brain satisfaction that I can't quite understand.

I was also using the first level music from Total Carnage for a while. The level 2 music after you get the key in 1001 Spikes is really awesome as a ring tone as well.

Had the Arkham Asylum intercom chime as my ringtone for years. It's a gentle enough alert that isn't super obvious that it's from a videogame.

Used to have the Ocarina of Time chest open fanfare as a text tone, but it's just too annoying and embarrassing when it goes off in public.
