I'm yet to see a video that would offend me as an Australian.

Are Canadians even capable of taking offense? I thought that particular gene was missing in their DNA...

Not offensive, not really comedy. I find him hilarious when he pops up on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast but haven't really enjoyed any of the Kroll Show I have seen.

As an American who lives pretty close to Canada, I'm gunna go ahead and tell you that most American's wouldn't get half of the "misconceptions" in this, so I don't think it has much to do with the misconception from Americans, though perhaps a misconception of the misconceptions...

American's pretty much just like that you guys say "aboot."

You do say "aboot", don't you?? D:

Pretty funny stuff, even if I had no idea what was actually going on...

Seriously though, most of this would go above the average American's head. They just don't know much about Canada, and also don't give a flying fuck. I think most people just think it's a slightly more liberal America...

I suppose if you got like, 100 American's together, and told them to put all the Canadian stereotypes into a hat, you'd bet this maybe, but a couple of American's wouldn't get most of this. Honestly, I was mostly just laughing at Ruxin being a kid.

Deep down in my heart I know this to be true.

But god dammit, I laughed out loud at "I'm late for marriage equality class."

Personally, I find it hilarious. It's obvious that they're playing off of rediculous stereotypes. My favourite part is "rolling in at 100km/h" and that the school is having a poutine dance. Laughing at one's own culture is healthy, and I think that Kroll, being very good at satirical humour, is actually making fun of American misconceptions more than Canada itself.

So what's your take on it?

i found the poutine joke funny, but most of the other stuff was meh. I didnt laugh but i was not offended. Why was everyone in wheel chairs?

Definitely not offensive, funny even, but I have always been somewhat baffled as to where most of these stereotypes come from. A lot of the things commonly associated with Canadian spoken English are more in line with Minnesota than anything.

We definitely say "eh" a fair amount, but not much more than someone from the US might say "huh".

Regardless, that was pretty well done, if little misguided.

What's hilarious is this thread. "This doesn't offend me, but it possibly could offend others, so let's have a mature, reasonable discussion about stereotypes." Haha, classic Canadian behavior -- always thoughtful and never ignorant. You guys crack me up.

I thought it was a Degrassi parody more than Canada in general.

The worst sense of humour. Way too blatant and obvious.

I dunno. I thought the two french canadian bullies were pretty funny. The teacher was okay too. Not sure I get the wheelchair thing? Maybe that's a dig at Degrassi.

The writing process for every canadian skit ever made seems to be pretty much:

Let's write down a bunch of things that are distinctly and obviously Canadian. Okay, Hockey, Tim Hortons, bagged milk, metric system, loonies, french people, free healthcare, poutines.

Also everyone is polite and talks like Bob and Doug McKenzie from SCTV, now how can we work all of these things into a 3 minute skit?

@super2j: I think the wheelchair thing is parodying Degrassi, but I'm not sure since I never watched Degrassi, that seems to be the consensus here.

Yep, that.

@Animasta: Thanks for bringing the actual comedy! <3

I don't think you guys know what lazy comedy is. Adam Sandlers last decade is filled with lazy comedy. This is parodying Degrassi while simultaneously making fun of/exaggerating Canadian stereotype.

I found that a lot funnier that I was expecting to. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but that's a pretty perfect parody of Canadian tv.

I am offended at how not offensive it is, plus that how we see the rest of Canada in Québec.
