I stopped following comedy after Mitch died and when Dane Cook-imitators became the standard. Most comedy these-dayz consists of corny audience set ups, and the same lame political/observational stuff that has been done to death. And then you have the "subject" comedians who only talk about one thing and construct their entire act around it. I can name maybe a handful of guys that are good, (Demitri Martin and Steven Lynch come to mind, though Martin is basically Steven Wright without the voice.) but I feel that Flight of the Conchords are the best to come around in a while. You may have heard of their show on HBO, (that rhymes!) but if you haven't, they're a comedy-folk duo from New Zealand, named Jemaine (Glasses) and Bret (No glasses). Anyway, they're terrific, so check them out.

Ricky Gervais is obviously the greatest comedian. ;)

No, but these guys are pretty cool. I've heard of them here and there, but never actually seen full performances. So thanks for posting these videos!

I don't recognise any of those names unless you are talking about peter cook?
Flight of the conchords are brilliant, their CD's are worth getting. The shows are a bit meh since it was the CD's that came first and a program built around them.
But as for best comedians of the modern era you need to check out Mitchell and Webb or Horne and Corden

No, definitely not. They are incredibly talented, but the best? No.

I think someone like Bill Bailey could be considered among the top comedians of recent years. His live shows are incredible, I was at one the other week and was blown away.
Dylan Moran is an Irish comedian who is also incredibly talented. His show "Black Books" (which also has Bill Bailey in it) is probably one of my favourite shows and his live appearances are similarly great.

I love me some Conchords.  Nonetheless, there are a ton of good comedians.  You just have to dig for them.  I mean, you have to realize that in the same time that the Conchords have come up, you've still got guys like Patton Oswalt, Louis C.K., Brian Regan, and Eddie Izzard that get an audience going.

Flight of the Conchords is good but nowhere near the best.

That said, Hiphoppapotamus vs. Rhymenocerous is my personal anthem.

Hip v Rhyme is great stuff.  My other personal faves are "Business Time", "If That's What You're Into", and "Bowie in Space".

Flight of the Conchords are pretty good, not the best, though. Their stage shows are really entertaining and quite funny, but I hate the tv-series with a passion. A failed attempt where they try connect all their songs through a half baked and dull story. It also makes the songs a lot less funny, which really are intended to be sketches on their own.

I've never really found them to be hilarious, but there were has been a few moments that made me chuckle..but that was about it so not for me, although I can see why people like them.

I'd say Gervais or Sacha Baron Cohen. I do like flight of the conchords though.

I think the show's a rip off of "The Mighty Boosh." Watch one episode and you'll see exactly what I mean.

@Bruce: I'm a huge fan of the Conchords, and I threw a fit when I heard there isn't going to be a third season. Their humor is perhaps an acquired taste, more for people who know what its like to be in failed music projects and have a love for self deprecating wit. The gentleman above said they are ripping off "The Mighty Boosh" which is another show I love, but trust me those shows are way different. Just because they both rely on the chemistry of two hipster oddballs doesn't mean its a cloned concept. I recommend both.

Nope.  I loved the Conchords, saw them live a couple of times.  Then one day....kinda just fizzled out for me.
