The next two seasons should be stellar. When 5 rolls around, I hope they'll learn from the mistakes of season 2. In Book 2, Dany's stuff was super weak. Instead of correcting that, they made it worse. Book's 4 and 5 are slow and full of lots of fat, hopefully they'll trim it down a little.

I thought I heard that they were going to start making each book multiple seasons? I am just imagining that? Book 3 is definitely one they better make more than one season out of, so many good moments that deserve the detailed attention.

Season 3 is going to be great. This is the season when Hodor realizes he is a Grey Warden, right?

@MstrMnyBgs: Book 3 has split into two seasons...very wisely if I may add. Last season moved at a lightning pace plot-wise toward the end; fleshing out some of the details, character motivations etc is fine w/ me.

I'm really wondering how they'll manage to keep the child actors on the show. The books take place over a time of roughly two years, but by the time the TV show catches up with them it will have been on for 8 years. Add in the two books that haven't been written ... yeah, actually scratch that, they're never going to keep going that long.

I swear I saw a writer for the show saying that there was a natural conclusion to it at the end of the third book, which I can totally get behind. Ton of stuff important stuff happens.

Some stuff will happen and it's gonna be amazing. Since they're splitting book 3 into 2 seasons I wonder if season 4 will come faster.

I absolutely love this show and the books but I might have to wait until its released on blu ray. I just can't get behind having to pay for cable for the sole privilege of being able to subscribe to HBO and be able to watch this amazing show. The time is nigh for HBO to re-evaluate the way they do business, it only helps the cable companies and they won't be around forever.

Why would it? Filming schedule is already tight and they seem to like launching in spring each year.

Oh you guys who haven't read the books yet... Fuck it, I can't say anything. Just let it be known, if they handle it right this season will be dope.

If you haven't read the book DO NOT READ THIS. I won't explicitly mention anything in the book, but I wanted to say:

If that is definitely true, that's a shame :( Only one thing even remotely non-dull happens in part 1. I can't even remember the rest of it. Book 2 is where it's at, oh my.

I agree with this, Season 2 (especially the north of the wall stuff) was handled really poorly, and was disappointing. But I still enjoyed it enough to give 3 a shot. I can appreciate both.

So pumped. Season 2 is out on Blu-Ray in a couple weeks too.

There is no possible way that this will live up to the ridiculously high standard of my favourite book of all time (A Storm of Swords), but it'll still make for a damn fine season of television.

@oulzac said:

The Maker is Dragon Age. The Seven (or Drowned God, Old Gods, R'hllor) is Game of Thrones. :P

They're moving stuff forward and back in order to really set Season 3 and Season 4 as distinctly separate seasons.

We know for a fact that the Red Wedding will in this season (Episode 9), and it is heavily hinted that we will see Lady Stoneheart (Episode 10). Unlike in the books, it appears that we'll actually see her resurrection in person--which happens to occur just shortly after the Red Wedding (within 3 days, IIRC).

I can't wait to not watch this!

I never got this show. It's one of those show that pretty much everyone around me watches and keep talking about and how great it is and all that and i watched the first season thinking that it was crap all the way through...

And on paper i should like this. It's not like a generally don't like medieval stuff.

Well, we're seeing an ends, not a means. I'm just hoping that they follow through and replicate the tension of the dracarys bit--easily my favourite Danny scene in the whole series. A lot of the shots coming out of her portions of Season 3 seem political. My gut is telling me that they are going to extend that 'acquisition' by turning it into a big ol' political back-and-forth.

*Edit: I'm going to throw that in a spoiler block, just in case. It's super vague, but might as well play it safe.

You may be right. . . But I really doubt that the producers could resist shooting that scene exactly as it happened in the book. So epic.

I'm actually kind of encouraged that they made the Unsullied wear armor and masks because it implies that they will be trying to add in tons of CGI extras and "go big".

@Pr1mus: This and Breaking Bad are the only shows I find worth my time; there are so many terrible ones by comparison. Still, the Game of Thrones could become worse this season, who knows, but lets hope it doesn't.

@project343: I like the political stuff. Its a real trick to narrow it into something watchable on TV without losing too much relevant dialogue. Quite a few interesting situations were left out of course because there just isn't enough time.

Oops, I forgot about Dexter, but that's going downhill fast now.

@boj4ngles: Well, from a budgetary perspective...

They don't really have a ton of really crazy stuff to worry about this season. They've got the giants north of the wall (if they plan to use 'em), and these Unsullied scenes. Other than that, there are no major battles or seemingly costly things to cover (unlike, say, Blackwater and Melisandre's shadow in Season 2).

@project343: Well there's a few more things they could go nuts with. . .

They could have white walkers and wights at the battle of the Fist of the First Men. They could turn the Red Wedding into a major battle episode. They could also have more miscellaneous dragon scenes.

I would just be happy if they use their CGI money on bird's eye shots. I thought that something missing from seasons 1 and even 2 to some extent were a sense of scale. But hell, it's GOT. I will love it no matter what.

ugh, I'm so behind on Game of Thrones.

I bought and started the first season right when the second season started on TV, and now as I'm about to buy the second season for my wife and I, the third one is going to be on TV.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

It's 10 hours a season. Not a big deal, and way more important than stupid video games. :P

@nilazz said:

Looks like it'll be about 60% of the third book, judging by the shots in the trailer (and other things that we know).

Hopefully this season will be a bit better than Game of Thrones: The Softcore Porn that season 2 was.

Was there really anything completely offensive in this second season? There's a bit more sex than the books because Littlefinger is a more important character (and he owns the brothels), but notable bits of sexuality are also removed (Danny spends a lot of her time wearing breast-revealing outfits in the books, Tyrion spends some more time than he needs to in brothels, etc.). Most of the non-Littlefinger sex is right out of the books (Theon on the ship, Pycelle with his whores, etc.).

Moving forward, Littlefinger's brothels should be significantly less important, but sex will continue to be a pretty prominent thing for both character flavour and character-defining conflict.

This show is my drug. Takes me to another place, gives me that tingly sensation, leaves me satisfied but wanting more.

Anyways, giants, dragons, and scorpion spiders oh my. Feels nice to go back to Westeros (and Essos, I guess. Is there a word the the world in Game of Thrones?).

Also that fellow at the end whose name I won't divulge in case anyone has yet to watch tonights episode, that fellow had a real grandpa Ezio look goin on. Into it.

Also also, it's nice to see Ghost kicking ass.

It seems strange to me. A lot of things that are surprises / big reveals in the book are just not bothered with in the series. They just outright say what's what right from the get go. I feel like that makes for a worse experience. Especially since something that was only revealed around the very end of the third book is just openly discussed here in the first episode.

If the third book is being split into two seasons, then you people have two more seasons of the good stuff before dealing with "The adventures of characters no one likes and Tyrion gets a scene every once in a while to remind you that you used to like these books". I'm interested in actually watching this series one day, if only to see how they portray certain events (especially certain events that will happen this and next season), but after that I'm wondering how the TV series will adapt to the noticeable drop in quality that accompanies the 4th and 5th books. If I wanted to be cynical, I could say that they could both be abridged into one season, considering the absurd amount of pointless filler present in both of them.

Either way, I know what's going to happen, and thus am dealing with the far worse fate of having to anticipate book 6, which will come out who knows when.
