Like electronics and working?

WELL FUCK THAT

A momentum is occurring People are uniting across the world They are sending a message The next step is fast approaching On Oct 28th 2011 WE SHUT THE SYSTEM DOWN. For one day we peacefully protest in a symbol that will be felt across the globe. We step out of the system and step back into ourselves. Turn off all lights Unplug all electrical devices Abstain from using TV, radio and internet or...phone. Abstain from making any purchase of any kind Choose that morning to cancel any services you feel you no longer need That morning call in sick to work Do NOTHING that generates money into THE SYSTEM. We will send a message We will unite Most importantly, for one day... We live without distraction Read a book Meditate Play Sing Dance Create Frolic in nature Love On Oct 28th 2011 Step out of the system and get back to yourself Spread the word! SHUT IT ALL DOWN!See More

Lol, those idiot protesters are announceing skipping work on Oct.28. Hopefully employers notice this and fire anyone who skips.

Also if you're a protester, please argue why you shouldn't be unemployed for participating in this shit?

#2 Posted by MasturbatingestBear (1304 posts) -

Well it says call in to work sick so I think your mildly overreacting.

#3 Posted by Xolare (1310 posts) -

The fuck is this even for?

#4 Posted by superpow (256 posts) -

I won't waste my time on you. You're kinda dumb.

The link's busted.

I'm not doing that on my birthday!

#7 Posted by ArmedBear (243 posts) -

Legalize it maaaaaaaaaaan.

To those who didn't read the thread and just want to comment, the OP is making fun of this protest, not supporting it.

Battlefield 3 comes out on the 28th so, no thanks :P

I knew that. That's what makes my comment relevant.

Do NOTHING that generates money into THE SYSTEM

This is illogical and based purely on emotion. I will not take part in this immature protest.

#12 Posted by SSully (4661 posts) -

I am going to have to pass. Good luck to the people trying to do this

The system scares the crap out of me.

I feel like some idiot read too much Fight Club and doesn't actually know how to rebel. XD

#15 Posted by Afroman269 (7440 posts) -

But my porn!

#16 Posted by amomjc (978 posts) -

Why do I feel that the people sponsoring this are going to go home and smoke a huge joint.

Why is it that these stupid immature activities always get seen, but great charities and other motions always seem to be muddled down.

#17 Posted by Willin (1343 posts) -

I'm doing that this week anyway so... fight the power?

#18 Posted by BraveToaster (12636 posts) -

That's lame.

#19 Posted by MooseyMcMan (11980 posts) -

I have a strange urge to use as many electronics as possible on that day.

#20 Posted by AlexAlterisio (105 posts) -

I don't really know about their reasoning, but I think it would be interesting to try for a day. Then again there are plenty of other "don't use electricity all day" events that get promoted

#21 Posted by Skytylz (4070 posts) -

That's a friday, maybe I'll wait till then to pick up battlefield 3.

A: What exactly do these people hope to accomplish?

B: I am reminded of the German propaganda that encouraged pacifism in allied nations. Not that I'm suggesting that China is secretly trying to undermine Western economies by reducing the efficiency of fast-food restaurants and gas stations for a day.

OR AM I ?!

You're only allowed to if you post a long blog about it later.

Go ahead and ignore the system hipsters. I'll gladly take your do-nothing job. If these "occupy whatever" idiots were serious they would go after the most corrupt and lax of all industries, the entertainment one. Sadly, all it takes is the jingle of car keys to distract them from the real issues.

I was under the impression most of those protestors were already gainfully unemployed. I look forward to the spontaneous rainbows that will sprout in unison all over the world in response to this empty gesture.

#37 Posted by YukoAsho (2248 posts) -

I get the underlying concern that the protesters feel. More and more jobs are shipped overseas and America is teetering on the brink of an outright caste system, with politicians more concerned about primaries than doing their fucking jobs. But this is so the wrong way to express these concerns. Simply shutting oneself away from the world is not the answer.

Can I read my Kindle? It's a book, but also an electronic!

Oh, I don't then. I simply haven't the time.

@Buzzkill: Don't we kind of demand that the entertainment industry be as lax as possible? It's the tryhards that are focused on reaching a mass-audience that piss us off. I would rather watch somebody doing what they love than what they think I want to see.

#40 Posted by agemyth (108 posts) -

Fix your link, OP. I have no reason to believe this is an actual part of the movement until you do so.

My guess is this is some dumb Facebook born chain post spam type of thing started by one or a few less intelligent people clinging to the Occupy stuff. Since the Occupy movement is supposed to be a leaderless movement, you will get the occasional idiot with a dumb ass idea which other even dumber people will latch onto. Mob mentality and such.

#49 Posted by TooWalrus (13333 posts) -

The system... I might just play some Metal Gear that day.

I can definitely do this. I got plenty of comics and paperback books that I can read under candlelight when the sun goes down. I also have a cooler, so I'll just load it up with ice and throw everything I have in the fridge into that.
