So I saw on twitter that there was going to be a Giant Bomb reference on Archer so I watched very intently and found "GL-HB" on a folder in one scene. Here's the screen cap with the GL-HB boxed. It's great to see GB references on TV!
Giant Bomb reference on Archer!
That's a pretty esoteric reference, though. Couldn't it just be coincidence? It's not like one of those was the Giant Bomb bomb or anything, or the word "duder".
Um - I don't get it - what is GL-HB?

I needed to control-Z out of this statement.

@Video_Game_King
I guess I should have mentioned that one of the artists from the show tweeted that he was a GB fan and that there would be a reference in tonight's episode.
@taswell The more obvious scene was cut, but eagle-eyed Giant Bomb fans should check out the ISIS file room on tonight's episode of Archer.

The guy that drew it told Ryan he did it intentionally on Twitter.
I guess there was an even bigger reference but the scene got cut. Wonder what it was?
Wow, say what? Been a fan of 70-30 since before Sealab 2021 sucked (RIP Harry Goz) and I never had any idea they were into WM/GB. Somebody should try and get the Time Trotters rights from CNET (and retool the show to where it's not just quicklooks with an animated intro) and call these fools up.

Nice! Amazingly subtle, but a treat indeed.
Edit: @Barrock: It looks like the book next to the GL-HB one has what could be a "BS" on it.
And maybe an AN and a DS?
Looks like it. So that covers Apatrick Nklepek and... Dwill Smith?

"Duder", in and of itself, is a reference from The Big Lebowski, good sir.
There's also a rather classy definition for what a "duder" is on Urban Dictionary:
When a girl is giving a guy head (or guy going down on a girl) and the guy guides the girl's head up and down his dick by sticking his pointer and middle fingers in her nose like a bowling ball. This is in reference to "the dude" from The Big Lebowski. Afterwords, the girl cooks the guy pancakes. |
There are no less than five posts in this thread before yours mentioning it.No one is mentioning that one of the folders has RD - JG - VC on it?
I dont understand how GL-HB is a reference, but the folder tht says RD-VC-JG totally is, why no BS? LOL
Hahah, looks like you guys found em! I was worried they wouldnt show up on screen. Oh, about stuff like sticking the bomb logo in the show... By the very nature of how these things work, if I included Luchadeer or something like that in the scene he would be owned by 20th Century Fox, and no one wants that. So in-jokes usually work best.
Also, looks like I owe Patrick a mention in a future episode. Sorry dude!

Don't forget about Brad!

I was looking for the references as well, but didn't see it as I was watching the Episode. Figured it was on the binders though.

Nah... But who are the other two sets of initials for? One I presume is Alex Navarro. But is the other for Dave Snider or Drew Scanlon? Also, looks like I owe Patrick a mention in a future episode. Sorry dude!
I really like the show. It's got great voicework and writing, and a super clean but detailed art style. Hope you guys keep getting re-upped.

Anyways official word from members of the Archer animation staff is that they are in fact fans of Giant Bomb and the folders are references to the site.
@DFSVegas: It's been a running joke since early Starcraft 2 coverage, as a play on GL HF, the common greeting in that game's multiplayer scene. GL HF means "Good luck; have fun", while GL HB is "Good luck; have batman".
While I can understand not having caught the origin of the thing, it's amazing that you've avoided it altogether. Though, I suppose it really gained steam in the live stream chats. If you're never in any of those, I guess it's less surprising.

Fucking awesome. What's the word or phrase for when good things tend to stick together? Well, it makes sense, anyway. That show is practically made for GB's audience.
