Has anyone every bought one of these and what was your experience? We are trying to figure out if the high price is worth it
Girlfriend wants an ecosphere
You are better off trying to make one yourself, but it is not easy to do correctly but if you pull it off it can be very rewarding.
@illuminosopher: ya think? Maybe we will look into doing that instead
@xxcrazycostaxx: it would certainly be cheaper and you could make a day of it, as long as you don't mind getting you hands dirty at the nearest swamp or pond.
@ripelivejam: or maybe I wanted to ask people instead of reading reviews on their own website?
@illuminosopher: does sound like a good activity. Was more or less wondering what the average life span is for the store bought ones. Some people say the ones with the shrimp can die in 3 months and some have had them for 7 years
@xxcrazycostaxx: you misunderstand i wasn't commenting on you, just that i had no idea what this was. My lame joke ruined by me causing confusion!
@ripelivejam: I realized after I wrote it and was like fuck...lol it's all good!!
@xxcrazycostaxx: shrimp only live 1-2 years, your best bet is to try and keep some of the smaller water life alive in one. if what you want is shrimp I would suggest a tiny 5 gallon aquarium, but that would defeat the purpose of having something you don't have to take care of.
@illuminosopher: I think she was more interested in the plant ones because of that. Not to mention all of the reviews saying the shrimp suffer.
@xxcrazycostaxx: what you are trying to make then is a plant vivarium they can be a little tricky but are the easiest of the "spheres" to make and maintain.
@illuminosopher: do you know of any good tutorials or guides? She kind just wants to order one offline but she loves doing things herself also
@xxcrazycostaxx: typing in make your own vivarium into google would probably be you best bet all the ones i have made came from trying over and over again and a handful of old science books. it's really going to come down to how big and complex you want it to be. for instance if all you want is a small aqua plant one you could just get some Green Caboma or Hornwort(easier to get) and a snail from a local pet shop or for a small land one most cactus will do nicely.
@illuminosopher: alright. I'll look it up with her tonight and see if she wants to build one together. Thanks!!
