I managed to find a copy of this movie and it is awesome. For those of you who may not know, the movie follows a SWAT team (Indonesia) tasked with storming a dilapidated 15-floor high-rise in order to detain a drug lord. That's all I'm saying; I want to avoid posting spoilers. If you like stabbing, shooting, and the occasional neck-snapping, I suggest you check it out. Also, the main character is a bad ass in real life.

Has anyone else seen it yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

I saw it in theaters awhile ago, and yeah, this movie is fucking insane. Insane in a way that kind of ruined other action movies for me because this movie sets the bar so damn high. Some of the fights are just incredible, namely the one where the main character faces the four guys with machetes in the hallway, as well as the final fight. For some reason, this is getting an American remake, which will undoubtedly pale in comparison. The sequel, "Berandal", is supposed be coming out next year, though, so that has me excited.

Was able to see it about a month ago in theaters and enjoyed it immensely. Easily the most elaborate fight scenes I've ever seen.

I work at a Regal and we didn't get it, so I never saw it. I'm assuming it's not in theaters anymore. I guess I'll have to wait until the DVD release, if/when there is one.

My friend showed me the trailer awhile back, looks like quite the action film.

I don't know where I would get to see this (small town with a single 4 screen theater in it, so we only get the most mainstream of mainstream movies) but it looks pretty awesome. Any clue when it will be on DVD or something?

Surely you mean Game of Death? Where Bruce Lee has to climb the Pagoda tower to get to the big boss, but on each floor he encounters a different type of enemy. Seminal classic.

I saw it last month in theaters. It was just me and three random people on the biggest screen my theater has.

Movie is fucking brutal, the short bad guy with long hair is absolutely insane.

They had it in theaters for a total of 2 weeks here in Wichita. I was in Vegas getting married around the debut week, and didn't know it was going to drop, so I missed it.

I really want to see this.

This movie was fucking ridiculous.

And I mean that in the best way possible.

One of my favorite things about it, which more movies should learn to fucking do, is that it just hit the ground running. There was about what? 10 minutes of setup at the most? After that, it was all action. There's story there and they managed to throw in just enough of it to explain what was going on, but it never felt forced or anything like that which I really appreciate.

My absolute favorite part of the movie though was

...when the 2 brothers fought that one guy. HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AMAZING.

Saw it in the cinema on Friday, did not care for it. I thought the tense beginning was awesome, but the martial arts action was the violent "realistic" type (despite being super crazy kung fu shit) and I cannot deal with breaking bones. It's the kind of violence that I'm not against, but hearing people go HELL YEAH when something crazy violent happens, made me uncomfortable. When something that fucked up happens in a film, and is played straight like this, it should horrify me, not fill me with glee. Obviously it's a tad different when you have character development, and like people say, the end fight was pretty cool, but in the end, the story was not good enough for the action, and the first half was SO MUCH BETTER than the second.

But many people seem to be loving it, it has cool choreography and a tense-as opening, and like no setup which is a damn good thing. Fuck exposition.

Is this film in english? or is it subtitled?

I never manage to read the subtitles in foreign films because i get distracted by whats on the screen. If it is, will i beable to just watch the pictures not knowing what is going on and still find it awesome?

@BraveToaster: brave toaster, i see you around these forums alot and are just about the only person i recognize, and u seem very cool. You also single handed made me remember that toaster movie and how good/weird i found it.

Now....The Raid is probably the best action movie i have seen...ever. I mean the fights last long and they dont get boring, they dont rely on special effects like most other movies and this movie had me going "Oh shit" so many times and actually made me groan a couple of times (ie. the groan u make the first time u see a dude get hit in the balls). Few movies have ever had me wrapped up and engaged, all with barely a plot, or sweeping vistas or lore. It made me realize something important. How hollow and empty hollywood movies are. I was generally aware of this fact but watching the Raid then Titans almost back to back made the comparison clear as night and day.

BACK STORY

I saw this movie alone on movie day(that i go to with friends). I told my friends excitedly about how we should see this movie and how special it looks. They basically shot it down in favor of Wrath of the titans, which broke my heart because it was obvious how generic it was. I mean, I was so distraught at the idea of watching The wrath of the titans when "cabin in the woods" and "the raid" were both playing. Thankfully i didnt need anyone else to enjoy The Raid, and i caught it 1 or 2 weeks before it was gone so I was super pleased, the only problem is that i feel bad that my friends just didnt listen and missed out.

@super2j: I agree with you, duder. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last movie that had me this excited. The fight scenes are well choreographed (I read that the main character-- who is a former martial arts champion-- choreographed the fight scenes) and the few scenes between fights don't slow the pace at all. I didn't like the new Clash of the Titans, so I don't even care about the sequel. You don't need a ton of CGI and scantily clad damsels in distress to make something amazing.

I saw it in subtitles. You don't even have to read them to know what's going on, so you should be good.

Saw this movie a few months ago opening weekend. IT IS UNREAL, hands down the best action scenes I'v seen in a really long.

Films like this make you feel sad about hollywood action movies, Haywire was pretty good (mostly because of Gina) but most other action flicks are just not that good anymore.

I should mention that for anyone who likes this movie, you should also check out "Merantau", which has been on Netflix streaming for a long time now. It has the same director and same lead actor as "The Raid". The movie itself is pretty similar to the original "Ong Bak" and has a fair share of real quality fights.

I realize it's out there if people really want to watch it. Heck, I was tempted to look for a Screener shortly after it was released in theaters. Unfortunately, it never played anywhere near me, so the temptation was strong. I'd rather wait for a legit home video release rather than have the film ruined with shoddy subtitles or craptastic cam rips. In the meantime, I will settle with a claymation cats version of the film.
