Good podcast app for iOS?

#1 Posted by BisonHero (3234 posts) - 6 months, 20 days ago

I used to use the iOS music app for podcasts, but recently I tried out the default Apple podcast app and it migrated all of my podcasts over, and I think it's bad. It doesn't seem to include the text description for podcast episodes, and it seems to pull the podcast art from the iTunes Store instead of the current art on the episode (so the Bombcast shows the blue sky art from like 3 years ago instead of the current art). Real fuckin' amateur hour stuff. Any suggestions for a better podcast app?

I use Instacast. It costs a couple dollars, but I feel like you get what you pay for. It pulls the text descriptions, but it does the same thing with the art that you're describing. It also doesn't try to be all skeumorphic.

Instacast is awesome!

Yeah, the default podcast app is a wreck. It constantly downloads te wrong podcast, and also marks podcasts as listened all the time.

I use iCatcher on my iPad. It cost a dollar or two, but totally worth it. Really fast and snappy with a simple interface, tons of options like a timer, playback speed, and specific downloading guidelines. Can't recommend it enough.

I love Instacast. I used the default ITunes music app for a month or two and switched to instacast last February or so ---- WAY BETTER.

Another vote for Instacast. Took some doing to get it to operate the way I wanted it to (You know, like iTunes befire they put out that shitty Podcasts app...) but it's well worth the few bucks.

I'd like to find the same thing, but free. Free, as in "costs 0.00".

The idea of a podcast app sounds really, really handy but I would rather download it and put it on my iPhone than pay for one, even a few bucks. I know this makes me sound cheap, but that's because I am.

Downcast is pretty great.

Agreed. Downcast is the best one right now as Instacast was ruined with the last major update.

I love Instacast and iCatcher. iCatcher is handy because I can import media into it from any computer (not just the one my phone is synced to), for example if I wanted to download an mp3 podcast directly from a website or something.

@BisonHero @believer258 I use RSSRaido. The free version only let's you subscribe to 3 podcasts at a time but otherwise it's the same as the paid version.

Yeah, I thought of that, but thought I'd ask on case there's anything better out there.
