When you meet new people do you greet them with a firm manly hand shake or a yo man 'sup fist bump. or do you have some kind of wild secret hand shake like the free masons
im a handshaker
Handshakes. I rarely do fistbumps even with my friends, we mainly do them as a joke every now and then.
Handshakes man! If someone reached out with a fist, I'd wrap my entire hand around his knuckle and sneer at his bro-ness.
My close friends its a fist bump.
People I don't know too well is a handshake transitioning into a cand clasp.
Meeting people for the first time its a regular handshake.
Handshake. Fist bumps are for my bros. I'm using that unironically.This.

If someone I didn't know tried to greet me with a fist bump I would immediately assume he/she is an idiot.
This. It's a pretty useful way to differentiate between reasonable people and assholes. Nothing necessarily wrong with fist bumps after some familiarity has been established
( depending on the circumstance...I guess? )
Come to think of it, most first encounters I've had with people haven't involved any sort of hand contact.

I don't do fistbumps, out of an adventure time context
don't like shaking hands either cause sadly to many people don't know how to wash there hands
the Japanese have the right idea with the small bow, but i'm not japanese
It would be pretty awesome if you started bowing when meeting someone. I wonder what percentage would respond in kind.
usually handshake. Then I tell them I'm going to vote for Mitt Romney. Then I kiss them on the forehead. Then I smell their ass like a dog.
Honestly if someone I just met goes for the fist bump it is kind of a diss. Unless they are trying to kiss your ass and give you dap for doing something sweet.
Like making a funny joke or accomplishing an alcoholic feat of sorts. Side note NEVER FIST BUMP CHICKS you want to bang - there is no sex after fist bump.
I go for a nod and a howdy doo, then only resort to a handshake if they put their hand in.
edit: A bow is just an overemphasized nod, right?
edit2: If someone tries to introduce themselves with a fistbump, the correct response is to clasp their fist with both hands as if they were offering it for a shake, and shake it sympathetically like they had cancer or a relative of theirs just died.
I'm a fist bumper and proud... but only with people I already know. If they want me to punch their fist the least they could do is buy me a drink first, until then I'm just going to give them a too firm handshake, because I'm always afraid of giving a limp one and I overcompensate.
Hand shakes.

Weirdos .
*Curtsies*
I like these kinds of threads. It demonstrates how up-their-own-ass, or neurotic people are about something as trivial as greeting rituals. As for me, handshakes if I'm meeting someone for the first time. After that, I don't have any kind of protocol. Whether it's fist bumps, handshakes, thug-hugs, overly complex handshake that makes a snapping sound at the end; I go for whatever makes sense at the time.
How about a good old-fashioned high five? Fist bump for me usually comes on parting w/ friends, not meeting them initially. Meet new people a hearty handshake all the way. I'm not in college anymore. way past it actually.
I probably do hand shakes when I meet new people, but if I'm comfortable enough with you, I'll throw in the fist bump for variation's sake. Wait; that'd be kind of awkward to greet somebody with a fist bump, wouldn't it? Really, now that I think about it, isn't fist-bumping more of an alternative to high-fives or maybe hugs than like hand shakes? Reminds me of American Psycho when the business men high five each other over their banter about people. I know when someone says something righteous, I'll fist bump or something; I wouldn't shake his/her friggin hand.

let's start a revolution
bowing in the west
Roman handshake for close friends
Normal handshake for uptight white collars
cowboy nod for blue collars
Odelay with an upwards head nod for mexicans
You gotta know your crowd man!
Edit: Oh yeah fist bumps are for dorks. I once met a guys fist bump with a handshake just to confuse him. I ended up shaking his fist.
Neither. Both require physical contact with another human being. I find that to be mostly uncomfortable.
