Have you ever been robbed?
I just got home from work to find out that i was robbed, i got most of my stuff back but it still sucks and i might feel better if other people feel worse so i figured id ask
No, I haven't been robbed. Someone I know was robbed at gunpoint though. They lost a watch and some money (maybe $20-$50).
Someone stole my backpack with $600 of books, 3 32 gb jump drives and a bunch of other shit at the start of last semester.
Nope, and I've even done dumb shit like leaving my garage door open all day when there is nobody home.
Four times, three by knife point once with a gun. Last guy got my iPhone so that sucked. Got a device locator in this one, so maybe that'll help next time.
I was followed home from work one night, held up at gunpoint in my garage, and had to drive back to work with the guy in my back seat holding the gun to me the whole way back. Then again, I didn't lose anything of value, outside of $60 cash. They mainly wanted what was in the safe. Police are still looking for the guy, but I don't worry about it. You can't, otherwise you'll be paralyzed by fear.
Back when I was in high school, my locker got broken into and they stole my bag but left my bass guitar... I didnt really lose anything aside from a few binders with my notes in them.
There was also this one time when I was in South Africa for a field dig.... We were on one of our days off outside one of the local museums eating lunch at a cafe. At one point a man walked up to us and asked us what language we spoke. Interestingly, he asked the same question in about 6 or 7 different languages (French, English, German, Italian, Afrikaans, and one indigenous language). He then proceeded to tell us a story of how he got to where he was and how it was the universe that must have brought him to meet us at the cafe. He then told us that he did not have a gun or a knife but if we would kindly hand him all of our money and he would waltz away without anyone getting hurt. Totally shocked by the quick change of events, we handed him most of our change and he said a quick thank you in all of the previously mentioned languages and skipped off around the corner. Possibly the most polite mugger I have ever met but still a drag that he had to ruin his wonderful first impression by robbing us.
@SmilingPig: There's a simple formula for deciding to go see Prometheus and how much enjoyment you will get out of it. Here it is:
1. Did you like the movie Alien?
2. Did you like the movie Aliens?
3. Is Tom Skerrit still in it?
If the answer to number 3 is affirmative then disregard 1 and 2 and go see Prometheus asap. If you answered yes to 1 and 2 you will reasonably enjoy it. If you answered yes to 2 but not one, don't see it. if you answered 1 but not 2 (this is what I chose.) then You will love Prometheus, but beware if Tom Skerrit appears, your head will explode with enjoyment. The rule of thumb here is Do you like horror movies with a scifi twist, have money on you, and Have the time. You'll probably enjoy it.
I had some money stolen. My Tenacious D CD ( the first one), my sisters beaten up Karaoke machine..of which Tenacious D was in and a few unknowns that may have been stolen and I never knew.
It was done by a guy we knew. We didnt lock our doors and he we just walked in. I was a child of 10 to 12 when I walked into my hallway in darkness and saw a dark shadow just walk out the door. Same thing happened with my sister. and it happened again, next time we knew stuff was stolen.
We had our theories no proof. 6 months later my sister said that her broken up Karaoke machine turned up in her friends house. Who was the niece of the guy we suspected. She said he gave it to her. The door keeps getting locked ever since.
Even had someone kick the door trying to break in once splintered the door arch and then gave up. 2 more kicks and they would have been in.
Yes ..... got a HD tv stolen with a xbox360 , the hd dvd player , a dvd player and a lot of jewelry from my mother ... what angers me the most is that this happened on a gated comunity that has 0 easy access (electric fence on the front perimeter , over 5 meters tall wall at the back , around 3 - 4 meters of wall through each side of the perimeter .... which happens to be habited by many people / houses) with all our neighbors on site (this happened on a holyday) all because my stupid neighbor didnt not bothered to check that the "repair" man (he apparently couldnt fix a fuckin dryer machine in 3 days) exited the condominium ...yeah that sucked :/
When I was in the 4th grade, I saved up my allowance for 11 weeks (I got $5 a week), and bought my first Gameboy- a blue Gameboy Pocket. Bought that shit myself because my parent's wouldn't buy me one. Anyway, it was stolen out of my backpack. At the fucking Christian school where I was forced to go. Fucking Christians, think they can do whatever the fuck they want because God will forgive them if they ask nicely. God dammit. I'm not still jaded- I swear. Sorry for all the blasphemy.

THAT FUCKER!! It was a meth addict that stole from me!!! Well,..all I know is he was stealing for the harder drugs.
My garage has been broken into, my car has been broken into, and I was once robbed at gun point when I was working at a gas station as a teenager. When I was young our house was broken into, and another time our garage was broken into. ...Man, that sounds like a lot. It's always infuriating when it happens.
Also, I thought Prometheus was quite good.
no. when i was younger i was so afraid of being robbed at night. every single noise in the house made my heart skip a beat. i even had an escape plan i made up in my head in case someone was robbing us.
as for being mugged.. it's never happened, which is weird with all the expensive stuff i carry around with me and use in public so casually.
This year actually. Busted through my back door when no one was home and took as much as they could. I got hit the hardest in my family. But no one was hurt and we have insurance, so I consider myself lucky. The worst part about it is the sense of comfort and security that you feel at home is really shaken after it happens. I feel better about it now, but damn was it hard to get back into my normal routine at home after it happened.
once got how and to find out that i was robbed thankfully i was in the middle of moving so all that was left the the thief was an empty trash can, 2 lamps, a toilet brush, a chair and a sofa and they took it all. insurance paid for it all which was great since i was going to trow out the chair and the sofa, so they saved me the trouble and i got enough money for some new ones.
i have also tried where someone tried robbing me at knife point in brought daylight right outside my job. i was a bit in shock and tired as fuck when he pulled out the knife and yelled give me all your money, and without thinking i said NO. he diddent know what to do so he looked around and then ran. felt kinda bad ass for 2 sec after until i remembered that he had a knife and it could have ended really bad.
and lastly when i was in vacation in London someone tried to take my wallet out of my rear pocket. i felt him padding my ass and told him if he wanted the map of London he could just ask. so basically all 3 times i have been really lucky
Yup. When I was a student, I was living in an apartment-block with a communal room for hanging up and drying your clothes. Some punk stole 14 pairs of socks from down there once, including a pair of West Ham United football sock from their centennial year! What kind of monster does that? I've never felt so violated.
