Have you ever finished a video game without dying (minigames and Indie games and in general short games do not count)? AND NO, VIDEOGAMEKING, FIRE EMBLEM DOES NOT COUNT EITHER.

I have. Dragon Age: Origins. Tough shit, for the achievement. And Fallout: New Vegas.

#2 Posted by wemibelec90 (1280 posts) -

Probably? I don't really pay attention to that. Nowadays, a lot of games are easy enough for this to be a simple task.

Fable II and III come to mind. They have Achievements for doing so (or at least III does, I think II does). Okami too. That game was pretty easy. At least the combat was.

Bioshock on the hardest difficulty, but only cos (I think) there was an achievement tied to it.

MGS1.

I think the only game I ever beat without losing a life was Mario 2, and that was by cheating my ass off by using the warps to skip damn near half the game. If RPGs count, then I'm sure I've beaten a couple without having a character drop.

#9 Posted by ProfessorK (797 posts) -

A game that I don't think you can actually die in unless you stand still that I've beaten without dying is Spider Man Friend or Foe. An actual game that might require some skill to not die in that I beat would be Castlevania SOTN.

My Rogue on WoW went from 1 to 85 without dying. Didn't even notice until I was looking at my stats the day I hit 85. That's the biggest one for me. I finally died in Tol Barad I think after my tank disconnected. Didn't really care.

#11 Posted by Jay444111 (2441 posts) -

I beat dark souls in a playthrough without... HAHAHAHAHA!!! Sorry... damn... there is no way I can believe that anyone went through the game without at least dying once. (Other than sif of course.)

Don't think I died in Okami. Although I didn't finish it I got to like the third fake ending with the boat thing.

i finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 without dying once.

That tops me. When I play Ninja Gaiden 2 on acolyte I died twice. Once to the bone monster in chapter 6 or 7 because I was stubborn and did not want to use healing items. The second was on the armadillo in chapter 9 or 10 because I messed up the IS kunai strategy and once again did not feel like healing.

Prince of Persia 2008

I haven't died yet in the new Penny Arcade game, here's hoping I manage to keep this going!

Fable 3. There's even an achievement for it.

#18 Posted by Hunter5024 (5174 posts) -

Damn it. I was totally going to say Fire Emblem. Does Prince of Persia (2008) count? I think I've got through Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time without dying. Theres a ton of RPG's I've beaten without a gameover, but not without a character dying.

#19 Posted by Tim_the_Corsair (3065 posts) -

Modern Warfare, Portal, Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles, a few others.

#20 Posted by SmilingPig (1337 posts) -

Yes, I could finish the original Contra on life 1.

#21 Posted by Hunkulese (2528 posts) -

Made it through Bioshock 2 without dying on my first playthrough. Didn't really feel like an accomplishment and I didn't even notice until I checked out the achievements that popped up.

#22 Posted by NTM (7034 posts) -

Bioshock 2 and Skyward Sword come to mind... There's probably more.

i died a bunch on my acolyte playthrough of Ninja Gaiden II. the armadillo boss battle confused me so much. i kept dying when he exploded at the end because i didn't know you had to block his self-destruct. that was either removed from Sigma 2, or i always blocked upon defeating him for some reason.

It was probably removed. There was no need for it, no skill involved just spiteful. I never player Sigma 2 but in the original Ninja Gaiden 2 most of the bosses were poorly designed. The worst offender being the lake monster. Gosh that was terrible.

I've beaten Max Payne 2 without dying.

#28 Posted by GooieGreen (452 posts) -

BioShock for the achievement and the trophy... honestly, it wasn't that hard after you got the hang of how badly situations would go down.

Sonic 3 is the easiest game to beat without dying, from my experience.

Does Kirby's Epic Yarn count? I don't even think you can die in that game. If it doesn't count then I don't know. Probably not, but maybe I did and just didn't realize it.

Oh wait, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 . I won Wrestlemania and I didn't die once. Boom. I'm all about them loopholes.

  1. Vanquish
  2. Contra (NES)
  3. Gradius 3 (SNES)
  4. Actraiser
  5. Super Mario Brothers
  6. The Legend of Zelda
  7. Mega Man 2 (Easiest in the series by far)

Probably some other ones. I can't really think of anything else right now.

#32 Posted by Elazul (1327 posts) -

Quite a few, probably. I've beaten Link's Awakening and A Link to the Past several times without dying. More recently, Tomb Raider Anniversary and Bioshock come to mind. Oh, and Rock Band.

#33 Posted by NapTimeSleeper (327 posts) -

Fable 3 is the only one that I can remember. It wan't much of an achievement though.

#34 Posted by DarkShaper (1296 posts) -

I'm gonna cheat and say Poker Night at the Inventory

#35 Edited by Roger778 (949 posts) -

My answer is no. I can't think of any game that I ever played that I didn't die on, even though I finished it. For example, I played Mass Effect 3, and the final assault on Earth was so dang tough, because of all the reaper enemies that kept coming non-stop, and yet I persevered because I was determined to finish the game.

#36 Posted by SeanFoster (837 posts) -

I haven't died playing any video games so far.

#37 Posted by MrKlorox (11186 posts) -

I doubt it. I usually die intentionally a number of times just to see how things work or test out the environment. I remember being a kid and playing Super Mario Brothers on NES and thinking about how you would never see all the sprites for the game if you never died, so to get everything out of a game you had to die at least once. That philosophy has stayed with me.

#38 Posted by Rebel_Scum (563 posts) -

Yeah, Kirby's Dreamland on Gameboy

Alex Kidd in Miracle World & Sonic 1 on MS2

Twisted Metal 2 with Thumper or Shadow

Fifa 11, everytime I play it I never die

#39 Posted by Tokoname (28 posts) -

I honestly don't know. I've never intentionally tried to finish a game without dying. That said, there are some games that I have played many many times that I probably have finished without dying. RE4 and RE5 come to mind.

When i saw this i thought Fire Emblem but DAMN IT! I beat Golden Sun with no game overs and I think I beat Ocarina of Time my third playthrough without dying.

  • Nier
  • Star Wars The Force Unleashed
  • Silent Hill Shattered Memories
  • Silent Hill 2
  • Mass Effect 2
I think I finished these without dying, but I don't really keep a score.

Fable III. I wasn't even going out of my way to avoid death. Shitty game.

yup that's certainly something i noticed when i returned to Ninja Gaiden on the Vita, and playing some Black for the first time. the bosses were a lot more well designed. the beginning fight with Murai is still a lot of fun, while remaining challenging. the boss fights are still probably the worst part about Ninja Gaiden II to me.

F.E.A.R.s' achievements are insane. It goes from, "fire 1,000 bullets," and, "use every weapon in the game," to like, "never pick up a health pack in the campaign."
