I'm going to say that I liked Transformers 1 800000000 times better than the sequel but I haven't seen avatar yet but I hear many good things.

I'm not a big fan of Avatar but I'd say, it's better than either of the Transformers movies.

The first Transformers movie did it's job as a summer blockbuster popcorn movie.

Transformers 2 was painfully bad for me.  Ridiculous story telling and half the characters were there for comedy relief but none of them were funny.   In the end though, the movie's biggest problem was that they screwed up the real reason people go to see those huge budget popcorn movies in the first place, by using crazy ass shaky cam for all the robot fight scenes.

My problem with Avatar was the one dimensional stereotypical villain and the troops that he led.  He was just a horrible character without an ounce of depth, which would be tolerable if he didn't have such a major role.

Avatar all the the way. No comparison.

#7 Posted by Soap (3613 posts) -

Avatar, still not an amazing film by any reach but compared to the shear awfulness of the two transformers films it wins in a landslide

#8 Posted by MiamiRedHawks (914 posts) -

Although Megan Fox is the worst actress ever, she has other "qualities" that make Transformers interesting.

I actually thought Avatar was pretty decent.

#9 Posted by Willy105 (4690 posts) -

I haven't seen Avatar, but Transformers 1 was stupid fun, and Transformers 2 was stupid.

The Last Airbender TV series blows them all away.

#10 Posted by crystalskull2 (437 posts) -

Is avatar so bad that you compared it with transformers 2!!

#11 Edited by raven_squad (438 posts) -

Oh god, Avatar hands down. And I wasn't even all that impressed with it (see the "rate the last film you watched" thread). Transformers, both 1 and 2, are complete and utter trash.

Without seeing Avatar yet, i pick Avatar .

#13 Posted by PenguinDust (12567 posts) -

Both Transformers movies were horrid.  The second was worse than the first, but that's like saying getting punched in the junk is worse than getting punched in the face.  Both hurt like hell.  As for Avatar, I'm going to assume it's better than those, but I think to have it's full effect you need to see it now while it's out in 3D since that's the biggest part of the fun.

#14 Edited by MikkaQ (10319 posts) -

All three are total shitpiles as movies, and all three the current pinnacle of computer generated special effects.

NO I don't hate special effects, but come on... at least have a movie to wrap around your bitchin' light show, no?

#15 Posted by Meowayne (6084 posts) -

Oh dear god.
Neither.

#16 Posted by Hot_Karl (3309 posts) -
Avatar beats both, while Transformers 1 comes at a distant but solid second. What I liked more than anything in the latter film was the sense of humor it had about itself- it didn't take itself completely seriously, so there was something to root about when we saw ridiculously jumpy cuts of robot-on-robot action. The second film was a debacle that I don't want to get into at the moment.

Avatar has a been-there-done-that story (that I might even argue was done in a more creative manner earlier this year in District 9), but the visuals and the main performances were phenomenal, and that's from a guy who didn't think all that much of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in their previous blockbuster roles (in Terminator: Salvation and Star Trek respectively).

I didn't like Avatar nearly as much as most other people I know, but it is most definitely better than Transformers.

#18 Posted by ZeForgotten (10397 posts) -

I thought we were talking about three movies here.
Transformers 1, 2 and then Avatar.
Then I read the topic "  im not sure i need tips? they were both good but whats better"

Both movies were good?..
I'm confused.. :(

#19 Posted by Noodles (539 posts) -

None of the above.

#20 Posted by RetroIce4 (4392 posts) -

Avatar for sure.

#21 Posted by PhatSeeJay (3322 posts) -

Avatar without a doubt

#22 Edited by ProlificShadow (399 posts) -

Wow there is a lot of Avatar hate going around. Regardless of story Avatar is a cinematic achievement of momentous significance. What can you say about either Transformers movies? A popcorn movie can never compare to what Avatar has done. I guess Avatar is thing to hate now.

#23 Posted by fakemeat (110 posts) -

I'm really easily entertained when it comes to movies, but Transformers was about as fun as a fucking rectal exam. I don't think I made it more than 45 minutes into the second one.

#24 Posted by InfiniteGeass (2056 posts) -

I haven't seen any of those movies, so I wouldn't know.

#25 Posted by damnboyadvance (4061 posts) -

Needless to say, it's Avatar.

#26 Posted by Whisperkill (2969 posts) -

Michael Bay and everything related to that guy is absolute garbage and needs to burn in a fiery pit (which is Transformers)

#27 Posted by Crono (2688 posts) -

Just saw Avatar today in IMAX 3D.  It was so fucking awesome.  I also saw both Transformers and they weren't anything near as impressive as Avatar.

Avatar by a long long way in my opinion.

I haven't seen either Transformers movie, but still I can assure you Avatar is the correct answer. It is phenomenal. One of the most impressive movies I've ever seen. It's years ahead of it's time.

Anyone that liked Transformers 2 should be locked away in an asylum.

Wha? It's like asking what's the better film out of The Godfather and White Chicks.  (not comparing Avatar to the Godfather, just saying that the answer should be obvious)

It's very much Avatar.

All three are fun films if you don't expect too much of them (this is especially the case with Transformers 2).

Story is more important than action most of the time, it may be "a" year ahead of it's time in CG but it was ten years behind in the story department, (See Dances with Wolves)
#38 Posted by SJSchmidt93 (4896 posts) -

Avatar.

#39 Posted by chrissedoff (2153 posts) -

Why would anyone compare a fine movie like Avatar to a lowest-common-denominator, utter dogshit movie like Transformers 2?

#40 Posted by lilarchie232 (728 posts) -

Avatar by a looonnggg shot.  Transformers 1 was OK.  But 2 was horrible.

#41 Posted by adam_grif (1144 posts) -

The comparison is fuckin' insulting. Avatar was a great scifi movie, Transformers was a cinematic abomination.

well at least he told the truth. The most important elemnent in a story, is....well story, not how good the cg is.

that's nice except he responded to a post that did not have the word "story" in it. reading comprehension!

Avatar for sure, Transformers 1 and 2  is no where near as good.

#47 Posted by iam3green (14390 posts) -

i would say the first transformers movie. i haven't seen avatar yet so i can't say if it was good or not.

#48 Posted by CharlesAlanRatliff (5444 posts) -

Avatar.

#49 Edited by Suicidal_SNiper (949 posts) -

They both sucked. The only reason I really prefer Avatar was because it advanced CG a little bit. Other than that it was pretty garbage.
