Many people like to say that hip-hop is dead. People say that rap today is just about meaningless gangsta shit, which is fair considering that is the case for much of the mainstream rap scene. But anyone is at all involved in today's rap scene knows there are great artists out there. The classics like Jay-Z, Nas and Ghostface Killah are still out there constantly putting out great albums and there are so many up-and-coming rappers just exploding on the scene. Lupe Fiasco, Black Milk, Murs, The Roots (well, not up-and-coming but still underground and whatnot) and countless others.
Hip-hop is alive.
But one up-and-comer has shined above the rest. He's from Minnesota and his name is P.O.S. If you have given up on the rap industry, I beg you to listen to him. His style is unique. His beats are catchy. And his lyrics are unbelievable and real. He raps about real life and things that matter to the average listener. Not to mention his rhymes are absolutely SICK when he's doing it. He has a very strange way of combining punk rock and rap into a masterpiece. P.O.S. is living proof that the hip hop industry is alive and kicking.
"I'm pretty open to all genres of music so I'll give a listen to POS. The problem with the hip-hop scene is that there are a lot of people in hip-hop that a good amount of people don't like and really turn people off to the genre. The genre needs more groups like The Roots."I agree. People see stuff like Soulja Boy and their immediate reaction is just "Wow, rap sucks nowadays." People need to learn to filter the good from the bad.

P.O.S. is alright but there are plenty of other MCs from the twin cities that deserve more exposure. Oh yeah, Murs' new LP was fucking garbage.
"I wouldn't call the The Roots up-and-coming, they've been around for at least a decade . They're great because they actually play musical instruments. But I hear what your sayin'. POS sounds pretty good, I like the "drumroll" one, thanks for the vids."Yeah, up-and-coming is probably a bad word for The Roots. But I just meant that they don't nearly as much exposure as they deserve.

"Soulja boy had it in a headlock. He is strangling Hip-Hop. Watch this:oh my god. this is exactly what i am talking about."

"Milkman said:But it's not all mindless bullshit. As I tried to make clear in my post, there are plenty of rappers out there who rap about real things, other than the normal bubblegum dance songs on the radio. Those songs I posted are a good start."RedSox8933 said:of course i understand that, its just that nobody else seems to be better than him. it is mindless bullshit. you want music? listen to some jazz.""RetroIce4 said:Soulja Boy is not a representative for the entire rap genre. RedSox8933 obviously hasn't heard Deltron 3030, still, I think it's all about taste. I love ALL music, I don't pick out a couple of genres and avoid everything else.
