Not a huge fan of this show or the hype it's been receiving. It's not bad, I just think it's overrated and that Sleeper Cell (2005) did a better job with similar story beats and a smaller budget.
Personally, I hate the way the writers aren't ballsy enough to commit to anything, whether it's the offing of major characters or throwing a curve ball à la Breaking Bad. Things always feel relatively safe throughout both seasons, no matter how close Brody got to the VP. Let's face it, everyone killed by that car bomb was disposable. Estes' story loop was closed and the rest in attendance were throwaway characters at best. Also, real convenient how Brody signalled Carrie to leave at just the right time. If Brody is still part of a bigger plan, commit to it for fuck sake! Don't leave it wide open until next year when you're back at the writer's table.
Abu Nazir, never once have I been afraid of him or his "master plan". 24's bad guys showed much more menace and determination, no one was safe (bar Jack). Hell, Jack's wife even got it in Season 1.
With about a third to go, I thought they could have redeemed that finale by revealing that Brody was still on-board with terrorists, or that Saul was pulling the strings that triggered that car bomb and was a double agent. Or I guess, perhaps the new president caught wind of Estes, Brody and Carrie's loose ends and decided to kill them all off and frame it on Brody - killing three birds with one stone, so to speak. But, I suppose that still leaves Saul...
Anyways, not a fan of leaving it so open like that until next season, makes me feel as if they'll write it around the reaction and the message boards come next year.
