" @Meowshi said:Me too, so most likely. Forty seems very strange." "Fourty" is the Canadian spelling "I'm Canadian and that's how I have always spelled it, so you must be right. Just like armour or colour. "
How do you spell out "40"?

Dude what are you doing, don't go and taint New Zealand like Canada already has been in this thread. Nobody in the world spells it fourty.

@gunslingerNZ: Efficiency my dear friend. Program takes up less space. Programme just seems so unnecessary. Why do those last two letters need to be there? "

As for programme, and all the extra letters, the story goes that typesetters were paid by the letter in ye olde days of printing. All those extra letters meant extra payment. Of course they were probably paid by cheque :/
I'm cleaning out my 690 unread messages, and I just want to say that reading through this, even a year later, is still a terrible experience.@StarOceaner said:
Yeah, damn those English people spelling things in English. Who the hell do they think they are :/ Spot the spelling error: The tyre on my car, which I had a licence for, was black in colour, like my pyjamas, which I must emphasise matched my moustache, which made me look like a paedophile with a fetish for analogue over digital, which was on the programme I watched recently, to fulfil my desire to measure myself in metres, and in defence of my behaviour which could lead to gaol, I manoeuvred well around, despite the draught that ensued as I ploughed through all of the jewellery I had, some of them being artefacts. Answer - none." @mazik765 said:

You disgust me, Sir.
Ha! This one made me laugh. Clever you!Fjordy
EDIT: Just realized, "Necrothread" (I was wondering why oldschool was posting here)

@MattyFTM said:But logically it should be fourty, not forty, but the english language is retarded. It should be four, fourteen, fourty. Not four, fourteen, forty.Forty is the correct way to spell it. Just like how it isn't twoty, threety, or fivety, it isn't fourty.
But then shouldn't it be two, twoteen and twoty?
Why? We already have different words for those that logically make sense in the English language and have a meaning to them. Forty is just quite literally four with a ty on the end, forty used to have a different meaning entirely. Logically forty makes absolutely no sense to me when the others are four, and fourteen. Why randomly take the U out of the next four?@CL60 said:

Foretea always takes place before tea.
It can mean things such as microwaving water, boiling it, or using some other method.
And then the teabag happens.
And then tea.
It's been going a whole year? Holy jesus rollerblading christ!
Anyways,
Fourty = wrong
Forty = correct
And there you have it.
Plus, forty is the 'american way to spell it'? Well since there's only one spelling this makes no sense, and surely it's the British way of spelling it anyway.

Zed >>>>>>>> zee.
Fourteen is kind of the anomaly in spelling numbers, really. It makes me think that maybe over the years it's been accepted as the way of spelling it but it was originally Forteen. All other numbers change when they go into the teens except the four, and carry it on through all the other tiers of numbers.
four, fourteen, forty
five, fifteen, fifty
three, thirteen, thirty
