It amazes me how many people these days can't cook. I like to cook because I like to eat, and dammit, I try to do it every day.
I love mixing yummy stuff together to make something even more yummy. Cooking just makes me more excited to get to eat, because the whole time I'm standing there "damn this smells good."
How 'bout you peeps? You cook, or rely on the man?
How is most of your food prepared?
I cook all the time. My wife burns toast.
My ex-wife was like that. What it came down to (for her) was lack of patience. She'd try to short-cut everything, turn the heat up and the timer down. That does not work with food.
My diet usually consists on Hot Pockets and fruit snacks, but today I also had Pop-tarts.
EDIT: I'm exaggerating of course but a lot of the time, my college lifestyle limits me to this quality of meal.
Im to lazy i go out and eat. I'm lucky I because i look like I came out of Auchwitz which is very suprising because I go out and eat twice a day.Getting fat isn't the worst thing eating poorly can do to your body. :(
I dunno if most of what I do is considered "cooking"--I'll make a sandwich or pour a bowl of cereal--but I do enjoy experimenting with recipes and steps from time to time. I can make a mean quesodilla. I order pizza quite a bit too, and I guess I do make some microwave meals. Pretty much just your average bachelor-on-a-budget cooking.
We like to cook stuff together, but it sucks right now since our current apartment has a shitty (small) kitchen.
I can't wait to have a house with a big ass kitchen with all the counter space in the world with pots hanging in weird places. Spoons of all types in every drawer. Popover trays. Magic.
For couples or those living alone or something, learn the simple stuff. Marinate a steak (tri-tip, sirloin) in Carne asada sauce and grill. coat a chicken in panko and Italian crumbs and cook in hot air convevtion oven. Chops, hawieian cut ribs, burrittos and tacos with hamburger, so on and so forth. Easy, easy dinners that taste really good.
I cook my own meals. After work, I go to the grocery store to get the ingredients I need. Fresh produce, preferably, although I do buy frozen vegetables out of convenience as well, like broccoli, cauliflower, etc. I do admit that most of my meals are accompanied with pasta, rice or mashed potatoes. I never eat (in) fast food (restaurants). Overall, I think I eat fairly healthy.
My rule is that if it takes more time to prepare than to eat, it's not worth it.
This pretty much leaves me with cereal.
I make it myself, or let "wifey" do it. Unless it's one of those days where we're just lying in bed or on the couch being lazy, then it's frozen stuff getting heated.. Parents invite us over for dinner sometimes too, though I do love free food a lot
I'd say I can "cook" but I'm not 100% sure what that means anymore, if it tells me on the back how long it goes in the oven for or it involves not much more than cooking up some pasta, rice or beans then I can handle it no problem, but I can't do anything too elaborate.
For the past two months, I cook everything from scratch. Unless it's cereal or protein shakes. It is kind of a pain, but I feel better knowing I have control over what exactly I'm eating.
I implore you all you who say you don't cook on your own to get a slow cooker to buy a thing of pork shoulder (also called pork butt) for about $6 and throw it in the slow cooker on low for 8 hours with a teaspoon of liquid smoke. It is the easiest thing in the world and it is amazing. For bonus, cook some rice in a rice cooker (ZOJIRUSHI) and use some yoshida's sauce.
I love to cook, it's peaceful and creative. Well, unless you're cooking for a hungry girlfriend who cooks a bit more efficient but less creative. One of my main passions with food is experimenting with spices and flavors in general. But for all the amazing meals I sometimes create, I can equally (especially if I cook for myself) just fuck it up like right now when I'm eating 2 fried eggs that would make Gordon Ramsey kill himself.
I am an ex-chef but because of severe time constraints due to life I end up having to eat fast food most of the time. It makes me sad but it keeps me from falling over.
I can't cook at all. I also have a lot of extra MRE's built up, I once lived on those things for better part of an entire year
Damn, I'm 26 and still eating Mom's food. I stock up on frozen dinners whenever I visit my parents. I at least make a contribution toward the cost, though.
