I have a huge problem that involves not closing tabs, so by 2-3 hours I'll usually have 25+ tabs open, and I was just wondering how many others also had this same problem.

5

#3 Posted by Zeik (2122 posts) -

2-3.

I don't know how you can even manage 25+.

#4 Posted by McGhee (6091 posts) -

Usually only a couple, but when I'm doing research and writing a paper things can get really messy.

Yeah, I've got that same- well, it's not really a problem, but I do the same thing. I'm not going to be an asshole and claim I have "ADD," but yes, I'll read a little in one tab, something will catch my eye or pop into my head, so I'll open another tab and before I know it, there are dozens of tabs open spread across a few browser windows.

...I wouldn't have it any other way. Why is this a problem for you?

Not 25+, but it gets up there and I don't close them for a while. At some point I just made a bookmark dedicated to tabs I've closed but am not quite done with.

#7 Posted by Nev (535 posts) -

2-4, maybe. Anytime I visit a wiki of any sort, though, it gets real real crazy, and I may have 15+ or so open.

#8 Edited by mandude (2667 posts) -

I'm fucking terrible for it. Probably about 30 across 3 different browser windows at any given time.

#9 Posted by PillClinton (3284 posts) -

Just browsing around: 1-4 (for some reason I hate having to hit back, so I almost always ctrl+shift+click stuff like forum threads, then close when done)

Research mode: anywhere from 5-15+

Also, I'm quite anal about closing unnecessary tabs.

#10 Posted by Daneian (1174 posts) -

I often separate them out for videos and soon find three windows with 2-3

it makes firefox noticeably slower.

Between 13 and 20, somewhere around there. Right now, I have 21 tabs open.

#13 Edited by Fredchuckdave (4504 posts) -

4-5, I get up to a dozen or so sometimes when I'm lazy or if I have to right click a bunch of links in unison.

#14 Posted by Saethir (353 posts) -

SO MANY TABS. Sometimes though they will all end up closed, but soon after somehow a million more tabs. I usually end up opening links in new tabs because I'm not done with whatever was in the original tab, but then that one stays open as I run around the internet like one of those episodes of Scooby Doo where they're all running through doors in a hallway and no one knows how they ended up anywhere.

Usually 1. Sometimes 2. Rarely 3.

#16 Posted by golguin (3682 posts) -

I count 5 right now. I sometimes have more open, but that's usually when I'm doing research for my graphic design stuff.

#17 Posted by LeYcH (216 posts) -

Usually about 5, but since it's E3 I think I had like 12 open before.

#18 Edited by believer258 (11067 posts) -

Depends on whether or not I've taken a dive into TVTropes again.

Usually, though, two or three, maybe a few more. My forum habits often involve me scrolling through, middle clicking all of the ones I'm interested in, posting in half of them, closing the rest, checking the main page of forums again, and then moving on.

At home, I don't usually have more than 10.

At work, with the use of tab groups in Firefox, I've had over 60.

#20 Posted by Ben_H (3223 posts) -

5-10 on average,

When I am doing work anywhere from 5 to 30.

#21 Edited by joshwent (1781 posts) -

@animasta: Get an add-on to scrunch them into one tab with a list. I'm also a tab-a-holic, and One Tab saved my RAM. It's an extension (chrome user) and I don't think there's a Firefox copy, but there's gotta be something out there. Just open another tab and search! ;)

#22 Posted by Pr1mus (3528 posts) -

1-2 most of the time.

20-30 on Wikipedia.

#23 Posted by Freelancer52 (62 posts) -

I have six open right now. That is about average for me.

#24 Posted by ShaggE (6010 posts) -

2-4 usually, and around 10 during crazy link-following sessions that happen more often than is healthy. I only have 2GB of RAM (I know, I know... I'm piecemealing a new machine as I type), so I can't go TOO wild.

#25 Edited by FancySoapsMan (5750 posts) -

way too many.

Often times I'll have more than one window open with 6 or more tabs in each.

#26 Edited by TyCobb (1924 posts) -

Anywhere from 10-30. I lose track of things I have opened when I need something quick for work so I just pop open a new tab and go.

#27 Posted by Dot (163 posts) -

So many that I some times end up closing them accidentally because they're so small

#28 Edited by Ezakael (871 posts) -

I have 3 or 4 tabs open usually. I almost always have Giantbomb and Facebook open so that's a guaranteed 2.

#29 Edited by EquitasInvictus (1870 posts) -

When I'm working, I sometimes have like four different browser windows with 10 tabs each on average.

I used to be a lot better about spreading them out over workspaces and stuff but I still go a little overboard having billions of tabs open, especially if I'm testing stuff or doing web development. Even when I'm not I can easily hit 20 before I realize I should probably start closing tabs.

#30 Posted by MariachiMacabre (6942 posts) -

~5 usually.

#31 Posted by Turtlebird95 (2152 posts) -

No more than five. Two are usually for Facebook and Twitter.

#32 Posted by Oscar__Explosion (2161 posts) -

2-3

#33 Posted by ArbitraryWater (11043 posts) -

2-3. If I've gone down a TV Tropes hole... significantly more.

#34 Posted by RedCream (704 posts) -

Opening 5 tabs is pushing it most of the time unless when I'm doing research.

#35 Edited by afrofools (1295 posts) -

2-6, though it can go well beyond that in to the 20's on some occasions (valid reasons for doing so too). I usually have about 6 desktop applications running too, though I spend most of my time dealing with news and apps in the browser. Some web applications are much more reliable than their desktop equivalents, for example Google Calendar > OSX Calendar, or gmail > mail.

#36 Edited by NTM (7038 posts) -

If it's ever more than one, it only goes up to three (usually, maybe four), but is often two if it isn't the usual one.

#37 Posted by mlarrabee (2765 posts) -

So many...

Four or five.

#38 Edited by HurricaneIvan29 (303 posts) -

OP, you have a problem lol what if it adapts to becoming a hoarder in your old age?! hahah

Learn to let go man! I usually keep 6-9 though.

4-5 max.

2-3 regularly.

#45 Posted by Ravenlight (8033 posts) -

10+

Usually more depending on what I'm currently/was doing,

#46 Posted by tonyp2121 (169 posts) -

I've got 32 currently, I usually have somewhere between 15-40 at a time all the time.

Help, please I have a problem.

#47 Posted by Demoskinos (13927 posts) -

Like 5 maximum. I don't know how people can have so many tabs open all at once. Chrome takes up so much fucking memory.

#48 Posted by Bocam (3564 posts) -

At this moment I have 57 tabs open.

#49 Posted by Zella (625 posts) -

usually no more than 4 or 5, most of the time 2 or 3. I'll keep one for radio, one for facebook sometimes, and one or 2 for whatever I am looking at.

#50 Posted by Dallas_Raines (2052 posts) -

3 usually.
