Make a guess! We'll include everything from Thursday night to Sunday night, judging by the actual weekend numbers that are posted on Box Office Mojo on Tuesday. Whoever gets closest will get something stupid (probably some Screened stickers or something equally slight).

I'm going to go ahead and guess $185 million. Less than The Avengers, but a lot of money nonetheless.

$185.1. Checkmate.

Though that sounds about right, really. How much did Avengers make again?

Weird how it's only just coming out in the US. I watched it last week (UK), really enjoyed it. Definitely my favourite of the three.

As for how much it will make at the US box office this weekend, I'll make a stab at a similar guess to yours Rorie... let's say $188 million. Like you said, I can't see it outdoing The Avengers, but it'll certainly break the top 5 biggest opening weekends.

I don't know what IM3 is but I'll guess $175 mill since the third movie always ruins everything for everyone.

While I was writing this my brain came up with Iron Man, then Impossible Mission but I think they have more than 3 movies already, then *swoon* Iron Monkey 3. Now I want to live in a world where the Iron Monkey series could do $200 million in 3 days, or at least get a third movie.

$3 and a box of Raisinets.

#14 Posted by Wrighteous86 (3642 posts) -

$170 Million. I'm betting that the LACK of other Avengers and mixed reviews, followed by the "meh-ness" of Iron Man 2 will slow it down some.

More likely that Avengers will boost IM3, but that's what I'm going with.

Well since no one has said it yet: $775 MILLION

@rorie: Do you have Ryan and Alex's estimates on this matter? I'll go 150 million.

#18 Edited by Kidavenger (3380 posts) -

$93 million, there is no hype for this movie and Iron Man 2 wasn't very good, the only reason I think it will do well at all is the complete lack of anything else to see.

#19 Posted by Scrawnto (2409 posts) -

I'll say $160 million.

@rorie: Good question Rorie; 150 sounds like a decent bet. The press and hype isn't as huge as it was for Avengers or even close so I don't really see it doing that great. No other movie has gotten 185 ever. Not even the fangirl movies.

This dude was way off on Avengers last year so it'd be amusing if he failed to predict this one as well, despite the interesting characteristics of his site.

Actual guess, $170 mil

A metric fuckton.

#24 Posted by ShaggE (5976 posts) -

$198 mill.

I base that on nothing. I do want IM3 to do well, though, as I thought 2 was a hoot. Of course, my hopes aren't very high.

It took me a few seconds just to realise what 'IM3' was meant to stand for...

Anywhoo I never follow movie earnings very closely so I couldn't even begin to guess. But I will anyway, with... 537 million.

@jimmyfenix: "Good"ness only matters after the first weekend for major box office hits (word of mouth et cetera), but for what it's worth it has a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted Oblivion has a 56% and I have absolutely no doubt that that film is superior to this one. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't superior to Iron Man 2 (which was not a bad film, just kind of a brainless action movie with humor).

$164 million dollars.

That's 19,062,015,200.00 ISK (or 4,441,950,275,689,223.00 space ISK)

SPOILER: It's better than Oblivion. Which I thought was kinda okay?

Wait... my bad, actually read the context of your post wrong. Which is cool, each to their own.

Nah. It's going to make exactly one hundred and forty three million, six hundred and seventy six thousand, four hundred and thirty two dollars and seventy three cents.

Add all of the numbers up so far. That will be it.

The movie is actually really good. See it if you have not.

#37 Edited by MiniPato (2657 posts) -

Doesn't really matter if it's good or not. It's Iron Man and it's the first post-Avengers movie. People are gonna see it regardless of reviews.

I'm terrible at predicting the box office because I never tried and don't even know what the average movie makes on a release weekend. So I'll say a billion.

#38 Edited by RTSlord (1195 posts) -

190 million

#39 Edited by Fredchuckdave (4473 posts) -

@evilnights: Oblivion is mostly under the surface good, like if you like 2001: A Space Odyssey you'll like it more, and if you like really neat aesthetics; I'm sure Iron Man 3 is more entertaining and much funnier than Oblivion. Big thing with Oblivion is it has the daily routine type of stuff from 2001 that is extremely hard to nail in a Sci Fi picture but when you do it immerses you in the world so completely that you'll follow wherever the film wants you to go thereafter.

Also the british chick's character gave off a serious Truman Show wife vibe which is so damn awesome and rare

I will have to say around $31,000 avg per theater.

Guess I will go ahead and say $133,300,000 since I am betting around 4,300 theaters are showing this film.

#42 Edited by triple07 (1193 posts) -

Why does everyone have to make eveything an appreviation? It took me way too long to figure out what you were talking about. Also I bet 197 million because that feels like a good bet.

Hmm....I'm guessing somewhere around $163 million

#44 Posted by AiurFlux (899 posts) -

I heard that they added extra cinemas and showtimes so I think it might actually be quite high. I tried getting tickets to go tonight and boy was I a fucking moron for thinking I could get tickets for tonight.

I think probably 187 million. Price is Right rules of course.

#45 Posted by NoobSauceG7 (1210 posts) -

I am going to say $160 million. Just looking at what 1 and 2 made it seems like it would go up that much.
