If you suddenly find out that your best friend in the world is gay, how would you react? I asked this to my friends at school today and got many different answers. Would you still have him as your friend? Would you just forget about him?
I personally would have told him that I am very surprised. Although I'm not sure if I could ever think of him the same way. And I would probably feel a little uncomfortable with him. But I don't think have just dropped him as my friend.
How would you react if you find out that your friend is gay?
" I wouldn't care. As long as he (we're assuming it's a guy) doesn't come onto me. He'd still be my friend. "Yep.
Considering he's mounted me and sat stroking my hair while watching RoboCop, I wouldn't be surprised.
Here's my theory.
Hanging out with a girl that is just a friend is the same as hanging out with a gay man that is just a friend.
Same chance of them hitting on you, right?
And you can still reject them.
this thread is fucking stupid. It should be locked.
It happened to me a long time ago when I was at school... I think I shrugged and said oh, ok!....he made a bigger deal about me not making a big deal about it.
That happened to me. When me & my best mate were about 15 (we've been friends since we were about 6) I was sleeping over at his house one night and after hours of him saying he had something to tell me but he kept being reluctant and stopping telling me. When he eventually told me I was completely fine with it. I'd kinda guessed anyway since he was extremely camp. His sexuality doesn't make any difference to our friendship. We then got very drunk on his dads gin, and I spilt a drink on his stereo and it broke. Good times, good times.
depends, put in the question you ask people if it matters that they are the same sex as you. You are a guy and have a friend who is a lesbo, does that matter? Two guy friends and one sucks dick. It depends really. Also, did the friend then try to have his way with you? Would you turn them in for rape?
Its all relative. Good luck with this survey and hope you are your friend are happy together.
" If it's a dude ask them if I can get free blowjobs, if it's a chick ask if I can join. "Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they want to have sex with anyone of the same gender. -.-
Personally I wouldn't really care. It's up to the individual to decide what he/she wants to do with his/her life.
" @Icil said:Sure, sorry." What if you found out your friend was black? Should be the same answer. "Wait, what? How would you just find out someone was black? Suppressing feelings is less noticeable than a skin color. "
What if you found out your friend was [SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T AFFECT FRIENDSHIPS]?
Also, it's not a big deal that gay people can find you attractive. It's like having an ugly person attracted to you. Hell, it's easier in the gay person's case because you don't have to worry about their feelings when you shoot them down. You just say 'I'm not gay', and it's over.
And I'm willing to gamble that a gay person has thought about fucking each and every one of you at one point in your life. There, now it's not a surprise.
Honestly, if the answer to the OP's question is anything but 'No reaction' or something meta to the information (like "Hey, I learned something about my friend. My reaction is interest."), then you're a bigot. You would have owned slaves back then because you're too shaped by the thoughts around you to make your own decisions on morality.
" @Karmum said:I agree with all of that, but the thing is, something like being gay / race affect certain relationships. Depends on the person. Should it? No, but it does." @Icil said:Sure, sorry. I wouldn't mind since it doesn't really change anything except the fact that he's going to be the butt of my gay jokes. He's still my friend of course.
A few years ago one of my classmates confessed that he was gay. We weren't surprised, he was incredibly camp.
It would go like this "Huh, you're gay, that's cool ...oh yeah, have you seen all the shit threads on Giant Bomb recently?"
I've been more suprised to find out some friends where straight, but in regards to a friend being gay, i'd be ok with it, in the end it doesn't change who that person is so why should it really matter.
" @MrMuise said:Well duh, that's why I'm asking and not whipping it out." If it's a dude ask them if I can get free blowjobs, if it's a chick ask if I can join. 100% agree." @Icil said:

It goes both ways too, it's not just the non-gay folk. There are some gay people out there who exclusively talk about things that the equivalent straight person shouldn't talk about (like gay sex all the time). Some also have this 'I'm gonna put a gay spin on everything' attitude that's equally annoying. Who knows, maybe it provides some balance to bigotry and as time passes, both sides normalize into truly equal sets of society. Until then, though, it's bumpy as hell and full of contradictions, just like any rights movement in history.
When you* were growing up and were learning US history, you'd always think, "How did slavery even exist? Didn't the colonists realize that what they were doing was oppressive?" Kids of the next century are gonna ask this question in our context.
*you in the generic sense, referring to any reader of the post
