I just found a 1911 King George V Silver Sixpence in my pocket.

Just emptied my leather coat and went through the change and this odd coin was among them. The only thing that I could tell about it on first glance was that it said SIXPENCE on it and the year 1911. Now I don't live in the UK (which further makes me wonder how the hell it got to my pocket) so I only have a vogue understanding of the currency so I looked it up online.

From what I can tell the coin is in Fine condition which makes it worth something, I will take to a collector to see if it's got any value for collectors. If not then I'm still happy that I have a coin that's more then 100 years old. Will look nice next to the 1902 Indian Head Penny I found this past summer. That one I know for sure worth $7.50.

@mordukai: I have a few late 1800's early 1900's silver dollars in a safety deposit box, one of which we bothered to have appraised and turned out was worth a fair amount of money. They have a fair amount of sentimental value, however, so I cannot decide if I should pull them out of the box to display, or leave them in the box to stay safe.

Either way, I doubt I'll be selling them.

@ChadMasterFlash: The government of that made up land just recently got rid of the penny. The copper in that thing is worth more than its stated value.

I have some old silver dollars from the 1870's that I received as a gift from my grandparrets about seven years ago.

I've got a gold sovereign from the 1800s, it's dope as shit.

I have like, 300 silver Pennies from WW2. A bunch of others but I know the pennies are worth around 50-75 cents each but I also have 35 copper pennies from 1943 that are worth a lot.

They go for a decent amount. Nothing crazy crazy, around just under the price of a game. But that's something.

I don't utilize metal money, but I do have an unfolded and crisp $2 bill from 1995. Not special, but I think it's neat.

This topic made me look up the world's rarest (or most valuable at least) coin, which is apparently the 1933 Gold Double Eagle.

The 1933 Double Eagle sold at auction on July 30, 2002, for $6.6 million, plus the 15% buyer's fee, which brought the total cost to the buyer to $7,590,000, plus $20 to monetize the coin and compensate the Mint for the $20 it believes it lost when the coin was thought to have been stolen. The buyer chose to remain anonymous, so once again we don't know where the Farouk specimen is, or when it might suddenly show up again. One thing is for sure: the Secret Service can't confiscate it any more!

I read that whole story, never knew coin collectors are basically living in a bond movie where secret agents and egyptian kings fight over objects of mythical power and value!

Be like Rant Casey and make a fortune in Squirrel Fonds. Then use that money to travel back in time and be your own father. Or something...

Found a 1934 $5 Silver Certificate at work last night.

I have a ladies' genuine alligator skin wallet from the '30s.

Oh, almost forgot, in my mother's garage there's an old cast iron, manually operated sewing table dating from the late 19th century.

I have an Indian Head penny lying around somewhere. I also have some ancient Roman coins which might be real archaeological artifacts or might be tourist crap made out of scrap metal. I guess I shall never know.

Years ago I got a few old coins and some confederate bills for some reason, gave them to my uncle who collected old money to see if it was worth anything but the bills were rather torn up and the coins weren't worth a thing. Wonder if he still has them for the hell of it.

I have a penny from 2003 that, adjusting for inflation, is worth about a cent. The value is likely so high because it comes from a pre-Youtube world.

I do not. I actually never carry any physical money with me. I just use my Mastercard for everything.

I got an old Chinese coin from a laundromat. Must have thought it was a quarter or something to whoever that used it.
