When this first came out a few years back it was a cool Internet Browser that offered a bit more than the regular Internet Explorer (that thing can burn in hell too.) and it was cool to be able to download extensions. However with each "upgrade" Firefox got, the worse it would run on my laptop until finally Firefox 4 came out, and that P.O.S. crashes on me all the time for no reason. It can crash on opening, on going to random pages (often teasing me, "Yeah, I'm gonna work... see.. I'm loading... SIKE!") or crash when I'm just looking at it funny.

I guess I'm making the move over to Opera, even though alot of pages refuse to be compatible with Opera (The Wiki editor here for one).

Anyone else have trouble with Firefox 4?

Good grief I put alot of paranthesis on this topic.

If you don't care much for addons , I suggest you download Nightly , its the nightly build of Firefox that gets updated daily so you don't actually need to wait for an official release to fix stuff for you.

I downloaded Google Chrome. I occasionally use it because it is faster, but I'm sticking with Mozilla Firefox. :)

I used to use Firefox and now I use Chrome and never looked back. Unless you use a ton of addons, then Firefox is the way to go.

Get a better computer? Firefox 4.0 runs incredibly smooth and trouble-free for me. I'm also on a mid-spec notebook.

I personally have not had FF4 crash on me yet, try re-installing and disabling add-ons etc. and see if it fixes the problem. If you are still having problems i would also recommend Chrome if you are going to a new browser.

I haven't had much difficulty with Firefox 4, though my computer isn't the best to gauge performance considering how old and sluggish it is.

I haven't had any problems with FF4. Not quite as fast as Chrome, but tabs belong under the navigation bar, goddammit.

How is the rest of your laptops stability/performance?
General system stability/performance can degrade relatively quickly on a laptop.

Personally I don't like Chrome, it's a bit too ... pushy?
And Google is starting to wiff of monopoly and muscling around, a tad much for my taste.
Only use Chrome for work currently.

FF4 works just fine for me.
Chrome works well too.  You probably have an add on that is causing it to crash.  Run it in safe mode and see if it is more stable.

Use firefox, no problems. Only issue is the memory, and that's after several days of being on.

I've un-installed FF and reinstalled it, and I never download addons, so I don't know what the problem is.. but so far Chrome seems ok for the moment, so thanks to those of you who suggested it.

With every update to Firefox I lean towards IE more and more. And Chrome is just a total joke.
Of course I keep using firefox because I'm a lazy cunt and it's my default browser, and all my porn bookmarks are on it.

I'm one of those people who wants to make it as difficult as possible for Google or other large companies to track my internet usage and "craft a web just for me." I think that is bullshit, and because of this recent trend, I very rarely use Chrome. I use Firefox in "permanent private browsing mode" and I have never had any technical issues with it. I've also already gone through a lot of configuration on my Adblock Plus and NoScript extensions and it would suck to have to do that all over again.

AdBlock works great in Chrome. It acts a bit funky on some websites that have flash-like inlays on their pages. It tends to block those.

Use OPERA. It's basically what Firefox once was.

And it's comforting knowing you're not in bed with the evil corps of MS, Apple and Google.

Stay Indie, stay true.

FF 4 has been crashing me a lot the last couples days, or at least locking up for several seconds. But I still like the look and use of a Homepage button.

It never works for me. Any time I watch a video on youtube or a couple other sites I have ads poping up all over the dam things. I wouldl ike to add that ironicly this thread made me install the new firefox 4 broswer and I think I'm going to switch back to it. It's much faster now.

Firefox used to crash a lot but with FF4 it works just about perfectly. It doesn't load sites as fast as Chrome but I use add-ons so I'm sticking with it.

Not really, it's been fine for me. I removed an addon which was leaking memory and it's been fine since then.
Edit: I should add that I've never had FF3.x or FF4 crash on me except for the Adobe Flash plugin, which you
just need to refresh the page to fix.

I'm stuck with a laptop that was manufactured in 2003; 256 MB ram can barely let me do anything. Firefox 4 runs fine on it. I've tried Chrome and IE on it and they break down upon opening more than a tab, while on this here Firefox I can have around 8 tabs up at all times with no major problem.

You're probably having issues with your Firefox because of add-ons. I keep to flashblock (so I can have YouTube tabs up without them playing) and adblock along with session manager.

At least this laptop can run solitaire OK, heh.

I use Chrome after having many issues with Firefox 3. The jokes it makes when something crashes (like a video it will say "The video player done broked.") make me forget to be made when stuff does go wrong (though it's a rarity for me).

I've had no problem with Firefox 4. I used to trade off with Chrome for speed at times, but that isn't necessary anymore. Firefox with AdBlock Plus and NoScript is the best browser combination I can think of.

I used Opera for a little while and then stopped when I saw how badly it choked on mainstream websites.

I use the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox and I've never had much trouble with either.  Sometimes Chrome has crashed video feeds, but that's all.  Nothing bad so far with Firefox 4.  I like my Firefox extensions.
