Listen Here!

I've posted a couple of these and gotten some great and helpful feedback. So, I've recorded one of my favorite songs, it's a Leonard Cohen song about his relationship with Janis Joplin. I just hope I did it justice.

Hey duder - again, haha.

The quality of recording has increased tenfold - I'm guessing you tried a new mic/micing technique? Also, are you recording in a different room? The room ambiance has decreased significantly, it's way quieter, which makes for a way cleaner recording. Great job!

I like the intimate quality of the production. I think it's an essential quality for this type of recording- one that relies solely on voice and guitar. Your voice is nice but it feels restrained. I'm a big fan of baritone singers (i.e. The National, Silver Jews), and you definitely have potential, but your voice feels like it's drowned out by playing it safe. Maybe if the vocals were more prominent in the production stage. Again, you definitely have talent! Keep it up.

@bassman2112: Hey. I just realized you replied to this days ago and I didn't see it. I'm in the same room, but I moved the mic back a few feet and pointed it up, vs facing me. I also am using a different guitar - it's a replica of a 1940s parlor guitar, so it has a bit less low-end in the sound.

@nobler: Thanks. I think part of it is that I'm in a house with my wife and to be honest, singing louder than I am already makes me feel a bit self conscious? Just something I need to work on.
