Im 22 year's old now, and when i saw Heartgold/Soulsilver i got the urge to go watch the entire anime again, play the games and get some old cards from my attic.

You know ... the ones you just couldn't bring youreself to throw away.   Or was that just me?

Are there anymore people who despite their age being above its target audience still have a fondness for those good 'ol pocket monsters?
Or have you moved on? completely forsaking you're childhood addiction? ( and possibly added new "adult" ones, WoW much? )

You recognize this dont you? admit it!
  I still like it, and i think i always will!

There is no shame in playing Pokémon, they are excellent RPGs.

However, watching the series or collecting the merchandise is as bad now than it was then.

Pokemon is undeniably awesome imo. i wish i didn't give away my cards though, im pretty sure the kid who i gave them to did not have nearly as much passion as i did for them. oh well

No shame bro, you were at the age that pokemon was at it's peak of perfection, like me. I still have alot of love for pokemon and find myself wanted to play the games again. But there simplicity and endless grinding turns me away.

I can't wait to check out Black/White because it looks like there finally revamping the system.

#5 Posted by TripMasterMunky (2402 posts) -

I still play the main RPG games in the series. Those are great games.

 But I don't watch the anime or play the card game or do anything else. If you're still into that, that's cool. Just be aware that some adults or girls might think you're a pedo when they find out you watch Pokemon lol. But for real, do what you want.

Hell no, good game is good game.  I am nearly 50 and still play Pokemon games - I only started when I was about 33.  They are just great fun.  I have seen all the cartoons with my kids, but I don't care to revisit any - except the first season, just because it is actually funny in a naff way.

Nothing to be ashamed about. Lots of people that should be 'too old' to play it still play it. I love me some Pokemon.

Even the anime isn't as terrible as it seems like it would be.

#8 Posted by ArclightBorealis (1563 posts) -

No shame in it, I feel. My friends have no problem discussing the good days of Pokemon, since they watched the series as a kid when it started and played the main line of games.

Unless it's a lady who can name all 493 Pokemon.

In  numerical order.

Watching the whole series again is perhaps going a little far, in my opinion, but there's certainly no shame in playing the games. I still enjoy them as much as I always have, even if I don't play them quite as religiously as I used too. I haven't picked up the new ones yet but I am extremely tempted.

More power to you, and all us older Pokemon players, I say! :)

#12 Posted by Ineedaname (4319 posts) -

They wouldn't still be making them if people didn't like it.

#13 Posted by peritus (964 posts) -
@Alcamin:
 Hear, hear!

@VelvetLore04:
If such a woman exists i may well have to buy a wedding ring.
Allthough i can only remember the original 151, well for the most part anyway. ;)

A long history of collecting Pokemon games (photo included).
That was a blog I did recently, so it will give you more on my enjoyment of the series.

Not if you're an of these. oldschool is the last one.

@oldschool:

WoW! thats quite the collection you have there.    I have about half of that maybe, at most.
But seeing that image gives me ebay urges :P

I'm going to go read that blog you made!

@Al3xand3r:

Perhaps i should go meet some single mom's there :P
#17 Posted by Al3xand3r (7574 posts) -

As long as you bring your little brother or someone else half your age, sounds like a plan. Otherwise I don't think they'll be impressed >_>

#18 Posted by peritus (964 posts) -
@Al3xand3r:

Good point! il bring along a nephew or something :P
#19 Posted by Kyreo (4600 posts) -
@peritus: I'm 18 and I love pokemon.  My girlfriend is 18 and SHE loves pokemon.  My best friend is 19 and HE loves pokemon.

Don't be ashamed... there are many of us in the world.

Hey, I'm 35 and still play the games and watch the shows.  I even just bought both HG & SS.  Good games have no age limit :P
#21 Edited by mooncake (156 posts) -

there might be a problem watching the show...

but everything else is fair game! my girlfriend is still in love with pokemon (playing heartsilver) and we're both 22. looking forward to black and white! and the cards, man, they were awesome. its beyond the concept of pokemon, and is all about strategy. it's great!

I just wish I could love Pokemon as much as I loved it back then. But they just screwed it up after the 150 first pokemon.

#24 Posted by Lydian_Sel (2481 posts) -

Pokemon games are still fantastically made & consistently enjoyable time consumers. No shame there.

#25 Posted by Rawrz (590 posts) -

I no longer feel so weird for being 21 and just recently watching through all of the original series since I hadnt seen it in years so I had the urge to go back and see how well it holds up today compared to when I seen it when younger. I do go play the games from time to time because there still a lot of fun and im always intrigued when a new game releases.

#26 Posted by GullumF (87 posts) -

I'm 30 I've been playing Pokemon since Pokemon Crystals, I just finished SoulSilver and I enjoyed.

I guess thats kind of true, but i still love 'em.
But the original 150 are without question the golden oldies.
#28 Posted by DonChipotle (2698 posts) -

The original 150 were lame as hell. Some newer ones are way better designed and are far more clever.

#29 Posted by btman (1038 posts) -

Only the first 151 Pokemon are cool.

#30 Posted by lead_farmer (1040 posts) -

Don't play it anymore and sent my cards to a better place (my younger cousins).  Still like it though, and I never mind if my cousin asks me to help him out on his DS.

#31 Posted by peritus (964 posts) -

I couldn't part with mine, i spend too much time collecting them. :P

 Yeah,thats me in my shirt.

I'm playing HeartGold now. Have been for like five hours straight.

It makes me yell and scream but I can't put it down. I'm 21.

EDIT: Flaaffy evolved into Ampharos literally the moment I hit Post.

Pokemon is awesome.  I started rewatching the anime again.  Its STILL good.  :D

#35 Posted by peritus (964 posts) -

Can't get into any of the games since regular Silver, they need innovation, but my nostalgia only extends to watching the original Pokemon theme song (see bio).

#40 Posted by MysteriousBob (6272 posts) -

The games are still great fun.

However there is never an excuse to watch any anime, at any age. Even though I watched it as a kid- I knew no better.

#41 Posted by Damien (1384 posts) -

NO!

#42 Posted by Cloneslayer (1625 posts) -

I really wish they had a pokemon game where you could build your own pokedex. You would have to pick at least 150, and if you picked one, you would have to chose its evolutions, but I think it would be amazing o hand pick the ones I wanted to keep through out all the generations.

#43 Posted by MonkeyMelon (217 posts) -
@peritus: Yeah I always say I'm done with the Poke'man, but every time a game comes out I start to feel the urge.But I tried watching the show but I couldn't get into it, where's all the Charizard, and  Blastoise. Man i miss the good ol days.

True, the old ones rock, and the games, in my opinion are timeless classics.

So come back with you're head held high and play on!

Dude, anime's are for all ages, go get you some naruto or bleach! :P  ( im a narutophile )   Guess where my avatar is from! huh? huh? :p

I still play the Main games a lot, I might even get SoulSilver, but the anime and the rest are kid's bunk.

#47 Posted by zudthespud (3281 posts) -

the last Pokemon game I played was Ruby an I found it way too easy. I started playing Diamond on an emulator last year but couldn't get into it.

#48 Posted by peritus (964 posts) -
@zudthespud:

When playing on emulators its near imposibble to get into any game, it always feels a bit off somehow.
#49 Posted by Supremo (5 posts) -

I still play them, but I EV train my Pokémon. I have to be in the mood to play it full out. I get it here and then.

#50 Posted by auspiciousqueue (1298 posts) -

I still pull out my old game boy color and play blue and silver...

Should I be ashamed to still remember the full poke-rap?
