The reason I ask is because lately a lot of people have been following me just to get this best buy quest done, so I haven't been following them back. So my answer would be B. sometimes.
If someone follows you do you automatically return the favor?
If I head over to their profile and see that I am one of about twenty people they just followed for some quest, I am highly unlikely to follow them back, but if this isn't the case and I do see something interesting I don't have a problem with following them as well.
Not usually. A lot of people try to do it to me just for the chance that I look at their profile and give them Quest XP.
I only follow the staff and about 3 users total. Doubt thats going to change, at the end of the day I dont need to know what a bunch of people I dont know are doing at any given moment.
Usually only if I notice their posts beforehand. Never if their profile activity just has a bunch of follow notifications and a tiny handful of wiki points or posts.

You can do that?! Be my homie, purty plox. ...Or is it just a quest to have a mod look at your profile? I haven't checked those since like week one." Not usually. A lot of people try to do it to me just for the chance that I look at their profile and give them Quest XP. "
Most of the time I do not.
However if their profile intrigues me I do follow them, that or if they have a decent post number and are not just quest leeching.
Not sure if most people who follow actually follow what I do and say.
There's a huge influx of new users this year, so I look for something intriguing or a common interest, even if it's just a friendly PM from them. I also follow people I've had really good disagreements with. :)
Quality over quantity, same way I did over on GameSpot. But I'm glad GB switched from 2-way friend links to just 1-way following. I'm sure the staff friend lists were ridiculous back when they were reciprocating every request.
I never do. Unless there's an incentive for me to do so then it's just pointless for me to follow them and I certainly don't expect people to follow me if I follow them. They'll have to be someone who I'm on good terms with or if they write good blogs or reviews to get my attention.

Before I always did. But recently I stopped doing it and began downsizing the worthless number of people I've followed so that I can shrink the blog entries to more worthwhile ones reading. Now its mainly whoever I find interesting or have noticed beforehand and is active enough that I recognise them on a daily/weekly basis.
I try to follow only people who seem interesting to me. I've had about a bazillion people follow me in the last day or so. I really wish they wouldn't though, it's kind of annoying to have a huge pile of notifications saying that some random has added me because of a quest. It's not like I have much to offer anyway; I don't really have anything in my profile and I don't write blogs or make lists or even update my status.
No, I don't follow ppl, I once tested the feature following natomax, however I can't unfollow him. I'm not sure if it's a glitch or not, now I don't follow ppl. However yesterday a ton of ppl started to follow me...thanks.
Hell no. I follow one person and one person only.
Anyone who does is an idiot and is breaking the system.
I really don't think much of the follower system at all. What's it supposed to mean? Very few people read the latest status updates or actually watch those they follow...
It's hard to know what to do. I only don't follow back if it seems the person is following me for spammy reasons. Also, I usually wait a while to follow because a lot of people will unfollow if they don't immediately get a follow back.
There's some really cool people and cool uses for the follower system, I just wish Giant Bomb would stop sabotaging their ideas by making the number prominent and tying in all these quests. Same goes for blog posts and forum posts and trivia and much more.
I only follow a few people, and I only reciprocate if the person isn't quest whoring. Incidentally, I'm getting a lot of followers lately and have re-followed 0 of them.
I don't use follow to see what people are up to, I just do it because we had fun making Hitman meme pictures of they're part of the "giantbomb is like a bus" joke from leigh alexander night.

Damn it!
A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna happen like that
'Cause I ain't no Followback Girl
I ain't no Followback Girl
" A few times I've been around that trackThis also runs through my head almost every time I decide whether or not to follow someone back. Seriously.

I used to be a lot better about following people in return, but now I generally don't if I go to their profile and see they're just following people like crazy or I otherwise can't figure out why they'd want to follow me. If I see someone share the same interests in genres and the like, I usually consider returning the follow. I think that qualifies as a hard 'Maybe'.
I usually don't reciprocate because most of the ones who've followed me are obviously doing it for a quest. If I do follow someone back it would be because we had a good conversation on the forums, which rarely happens because I don't post very often.

Ahhh; we do you do that to those poor people? They might just be lonely and are looking for a friend...
As far as the OP's question, I always return the favor. In fact, I follow more people than I'm followed.
