Continuing with the tradition of sad news this January, a former IGN editor has killed his wife and committed suicide shortly thereafter. read the story here. I'm speechless at the moment, so I'll just leave it at that. We've moped all over the recent financial events at 1UP, but this is quite a bit more serious. My thoughts go out to the families and friends affected by this.

It is indeed a sad news but I guess killing wifes and then committing suicide has become really popular these days !!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't and never will understand what was going on in that guys mind at the time of this happening so I really can't judge. However I wish these people that killed family members and then subsequently themselves would just do themselves first; thus leaving the choice to the other person.
Again; I don't know what was going on. But that's what immediately flashes into my mind with these incidents.
Uh, not to be grim.
But I'm pretty sure a major video game website publication being radically altered and having half the staff fired is a bigger deal than some nobody killing their wife and himself.
I'm not sure if you knew this, but the world is a scary place, and these weird demented crimes happen pretty often, it just so happens this guy worked at IGN.
I can't wait for someone to blame video games with violent themes for this incident. Very sad nonetheless.
"Uh, not to be grim.I hate to be the dick and say this, but this is the only reason why it is making news (on a video game website) -- the dude worked there. It is certainly quite an unfortunate circumstance, however.

"crunchUK said:Ha, that's funny. Game Over, man. Some boss fight that was, eh?"did he play so many games he expected to respawn?"That was almost as mean as that "Did he drop any good loot?" in the WoW forums when a guy said his brother had died.
Anyway, you're a troll.
"Yep... 2009 is going just fine (/sarcasm just in case you didn't notice)."Yeah I know, its great so far isn't it? Shit like this, Death of 1up(basically). Good games can hopefully save the year...but it doesn't help all the negativity in the industry in general right now.
People getting fired, I dunno they're still alive, so I'd say that's not as big of a deal. You're pretty dumb. People get laid off every day, get over it douche.

I didn't know the guy and hate to sound cold but could care less. Dude was clearly a psycho that got away easy by killing himself.
This is a part of the reason i don't read news about killings or war. I have nothing to do whit it and if ppl wan't to kill others then go right ahead psychos.
Also I belive that ppl that read about shit like this on a day to day basis are sick in the head. Just like the ppl slowing down to watch a car crash. There has to be something wrong whit ppl finding enjoyment(or intrerest) in other ppl missery.
Like when there was a kid here in Sweden that got kidnapped and killed. It was something of a National tragedy for some reason. There was a TV station that wanted to Live broadcast the kids funeral(don't remember if they did it in the end). Now thats just fucking discusting and anyone that thought that was a good idea or was going to watch it are clearly fucked up in the head.
I'm not saying I don't care if some one dies, I only care if its someone i know. It has happened. And I didn't wan't ppl that didn't know the guy coming to me asking how i feal and giving me their Condolences since its none of their damn bussines.
If you could care less, which implies that you actually care to a degree, then I would advise you not even post in this blog. Just a heads up, the term is "I couldn't care less."
I tend to sympathize more with the suicide victims in these cases, not that taking someone elses life isn't wrong, but he must have had a lot of emotional baggage that he just couldn't shake. I've been on the brink before myself. But I was fortunately a bit stronger.

So you sympathize more with the person who wanted to die and did, than the person who wanted to live and didn't? That "emotional baggage" is gone now, he's not bothered by it anymore. The murdered don't have the privilege of being bothered by anything, either.
wow. i think this will put things into perspective for people. People go on forums, wine bitch and complain and shit but this is just way more important. i take my hat off to all those affected. i feel for you.
"I thought this was some metaphor or something to 1up's actions related to IGN, but wow, this is serious. Very sad to hear, and it is hard to know how to react to events like these. I feel sorry for all of those affected."My thoughts exactly
I have to agree with Artie. Someone doesn't do this just because they lost there job. He probably had been dealing with issues for a long time with some psychological problems that he never took care of and losing his job just put him over the edge. It happens all the time, it just simmers there until a major event happen that just makes the person boil over and do what was always gonna happen eventually. It is just the fact that he worked that IGN that has everyone thinking it was just because he lost his job, which is not true at all. For all we know maybe the wife killed him then killed herself?
I am very saddened by this news. Just when I was feeling like this industry was losing some of its finest to economic woes we lose one to a very tragic event. And to those of you have been making comments about his mental stability. How dare you.
Please read the article before commenting. This guy did work for IGN...ten years ago. It's a tragic story and everything but it really has nothing to do with IGN at all, other than some people that worked there a long time may have known the gutless prick.
The title of this thread "IGN Murder/Suicide" is quite misleading indeed.
Well, it's indeed a blog post forwarded to off-topic, so I don't really think it pertains at all to whether it should or shouldn't be titled such. I reserve the right to title my blog posts whatever I choose.
And in regards to whom I sympathize with, I can/had put myself in the position of wanting to kill someone and end my own life. I'm not saying it's just in any sense, but I think people forget to realize that suicide victims are victims nonetheless.
Respect to all who've been affected, not just the "more innocent" half. It's hard for me when I get wind of any loss of life. I don't have to have personally known them or even heard of them. Death is serious business. Jobs come and go.

Of course you can...that doesn't mean that the title isn't misleading.

Not a victim of suicide. He made that choice. He also took that choice away from someone else. That he was sad doesn't justify that, not to me. Can't say I'm sorry for the guy. He should have killed himself first.
