So far all the suggestions will work fine for either scenario.

Make sure it's not night time, you're sitting roughly a quarter of the way back and don't make eye contact with unsavoury characters. If it is night time, you're sitting at the back and/or you look directly at the unsavoury characters, you're fucked.
