I'm Starting my new job

Posted by Lord_Xp (238 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

I'm starting my new job in the retail company I already work for. I'll be an asset protection specialists. For those of you who don't know what they do, they are the people apprehending shoplifters and having them arrested. I'm nervous for this job because I have never been confrontational in my life and this will be my biggest challenge. I am also very excited to start this job because I can get experience to become a police officer in the future as a career. I just felt like sharing this on here because I have no one to really tell this to. Wish me luck! Training starts soon enough and last 3-4 months.

I meant to add also, what do some of you guys do as day to day jobs. And are there any future goals you guys/gals wish to obtain?

Asset protection specialist sounds a lot cooler than "shoplifter stopper."
Good luck, duder!

Be careful not to get stabbed when stopping a crazy person. You may end up with a corkscrew in your gut.

To your question about goals, I just want less work. I need some lackeys under me that I can farm work out to. Eh, one day.

An "asset protection specialist" not a police officer. Don't be that guy who goes mad with what little power you'll have.

Do you get a gun? Maybe some pepper spray!?

Anyways, I also work retail the only goal I have is to fucking quit.

I know what you mean, most cops are like that. I'm to chilled and laid back to get a big head about simple things like that. I do what I'm paid to do.@Chop said:

I don't get anything but my co-worker's help.

Thanks guys though for the tips on not getting stabbed. I'll try not to since the job is in Cleveland

I foresee a lot of running in your future.
Good luck, though. You will gain the courage part in time, just need to gain the confidence which will come naturally with training and getting used to your position. After that it's generally smooth going. If not, you may want to look into something with less confrontation involved haha - nothing wrong with that btw, not sure if I could do it or not.

Substitute Teacher. Finding full-time permanent work is hard to find where I am.

Good luck in your new job.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

edit:

Also good luck man, hopefully the cop thing works out, tough to get jobs these days. Don't be a dick to everyone with your false power though.

I'm an investments manager, wall street, yep everyone mistakenly hates me like I run Goldman Sachs myself and actually change shit.

@Lord_Xp: I thought policy for big box retail stores was to not interfere in any way and just call the cops, maybe write a license plate down and get a description?

Congrats and good luck!

That's what regular associates do. Asset protections is undercover watching someone conceal an item and pass the point of sale area then we either force them back in the store with handcuffs or ask them to cooperate with us and wait while the police come. If they attack us I guess we have to let them go and just be defensive
