Being fat because you have an actual medical issue is one thing. Being fat because you enjoy eating and don't feel like dieting, then you should probably take a good hard look at your life....and the gaping hole in your floor.

You measure peoples weight in stones? How much is that in pounds?

This women sounds like a terrible person. 12 cans of beer a day while pregnant for over 5 months? Christ. Don't give her the money.

1 stone = 14 pounds.

#6 Posted by martyarf (250 posts) -

oh no!!! my ~tax dollars~!!! won't somebody think of ~my tax dollars~!!! this woman is clearly gaming the system, because life owns when you weigh that much. why should i have to work hard all day when she can't walk and struggles to breathe? take that liberals

#7 Posted by martyarf (250 posts) -

ALSO i lost a thousand pounds by simply dieting and exercising (mostly pulling myself up by my bootstraps, an excellent workout), so why can't everyone do it. while i'm at it, whites are discriminated against and feminism has gone to far, the daily mail is the best newspaper in the world, i have Become Alan Partridge, the destroyer of worlds

Is she fat because of sickness or fat because she eats too much?

#11 Posted by Ravenlight (8040 posts) -

Maybe stop being a lazy piece of human trash. At this point, it's time to get your fucking life together, lady.

#12 Posted by cstrang (2381 posts) -

This is unbelievable. The bitch doesn't deserve a dime. And eating is one thing, but 12 CANS OF HEINEKEN A DAY WHILEST PREGNANT? She deserves to be mercy-killed.

interesting proposition. you might say that poor people are asking for it? austerity wouldn't happen if people didn't wear short skirts weren't fat

Well, if she can't lose weight on her own, give her an ultimatum: Get a gastric bypass, or lose the money.
One of my friends has lost 250+ lbs by getting a gastric bypass, and he's never been happier.

She's right. She is too FAT.

This is pretty good to watch if your in the UK and intrested.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01dzfgb/Horizon_20112012_The_Truth_about_Fat/

It's Horizon which shows some of the ways fat peoples brains are different to thinner people. And how surgery like bypass surgery actually changes the way the brain works and changes their eating habits for the long run.

Personally I think if you aren't a very athletic person and get past 20 stone, the effects that can have on your brain and body are pretty drastic. It's of course possible to lose weight by your self, but I think at that point it's just as bad as any serious drug addiction and the majority of people will need help to get down to a healthy weight. Also I think bypass surgery is a cost effective way of dealing with people who are morbidly obese. I think in the long run the amount of money saved through hospital expenses outweighs the cost of the bypass surgery. If she continues to live at 33 stone she will end up needing treatment for diabetes, disability costs and other health complications. Not to mention she can't work at 33 stone, and if she loses some weight she can at least work again.

#20 Posted by 1momosauky (208 posts) -

I lost close to 50 pounds; it is possible but not easy. Do not give her money and force the bitch to lose weight by not affording food.

#21 Posted by Stonyman65 (2704 posts) -

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to breed.

When you hear people talking about welfare states and screwing the system - this is the perfect example. Sad sad sad sad sad.

33 stone, nice metric system you guys have.

#23 Posted by bartok (2480 posts) -

Your news source is The Sun so I call shenanigans.

We only use it for a persons weight in England. If your measuring the weight of something like export etc we use the metric system. Same goes for drinking, we get pints of beer/milk but the majority of measurements that actually matter is in metric.

@haffy: You should read Foucault's Discipline and Punish for some other interesting views on this sort of thing, albeit less scientifically minded, namely the idea of disciplined bodies, the way that our literal shape plays some role in determining our lives.

Other than that, I think I agree with you for the most part. It's easy to assume that because we think people are stupid they have also forfeited their rights to the milk of human kindness. A sweeping generalisation might suggest that people who want her to die in a gutter might correlate with people supporting/defending current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on humanitarian interventionalist grounds who might want to look at the constancy of their opinions.

My thoughts are that the Sun are sensationalizing a non-story by making shit up. That's what they normally do, I don't see why this is any different.

She should see me, I'll do the surgery for nothing. You can be accurate to a surgical degree with a chainsaw, right?

Fucking bitch.

And think if she could find a sideshow act, she might be able to get a living working there regardless of the weight or just save up for liposuction surgery. Never amazed at the silly stuff the Sun puts out.

Wouldn't it be better to offer support programs where they pay to get the person back in shape instead of just fat unemployment? Work with local exercise centres to give people a discount to go there, or get personal trainers to come around and help people at home like nurses that help disabled people.

#37 Posted by Shun_Akiyama (490 posts) -

and who's fault is that?

#38 Edited by Dogma (961 posts) -

What makes me shake my head is that is that she says *dieting is to hard". Well.... if "it's to hard" is your excuse for not doing something and instead want taxpayers to pay the bill then...what the hell?! Since when did being lazy or not determined become a legit reason to crave money? I honestly think it's sad that she has this problem and all that comes with it BUT to say "it's to hard" is realy not cutting it as an excuse.

We actually have that here in Denmark. It's called the Center For Health and Lifestyle. If you're fat and unemployed, you can go on a 6 month course, where you'll be counselled in food and exercise. You also exercise for several hours a day.

Should being overweight count as a disability? No.

Do lazy people deserve my money just cus' they got fat? No.

Not really, no.

feminism has gone to far

In a few places and ways, sure.

the daily mail is the best newspaper in the world

Daily Mail is one the worst newspapers in the world.

Now, what does any of this have to do with an obese woman who, yes, should pull herself together. Wether or not her life is more pleasant than the average taxpayer's is irrelevant, the notion of using tax money on something like this is principally wrong.

I didn't think of like that. Fuck me, it's like something out of a bad sex comedy.

Okay, so tabloid stories are turning into old Simpsons episodes now?

Great, maybe I´ll pay attention to this shit once they´ve reached Futurama and some fat british robot person is trying to build a space monument for himself.

#48 Posted by Still_I_Cry (2494 posts) -

No, it should not be. She is not "disabled" in any way. It is her fault, she should deal with it.
