After watching my grandpa die of cancer for 5 years I definitely have to go with quality.

#4 Posted by GunslingerPanda (4827 posts) -

Quality. Short fun life > Long boring life.

#5 Edited by Tireyo (6445 posts) -

I am 100% for the quality of life. I wouldn't trade quality for quantity whatsoever. It's best to have the best life you can live, than a life where you live a long time.

What do you all think?

#6 Posted by Oldirtybearon (4848 posts) -

How about both?

@Oldirtybearon: You can only choose one.

Hey, I make the rules here!

But yeah, I choose both!

It would be great to have both, trust me. Sometimes, you really do not have the option of both once you come to a harsh reality real quick when something drastic happens. For example... if you were to have cancer, would you like to be prolonged but not have your mind with you, or would you rather not be prolonged and have your mind with you for a while? Most people who are prolonged do not have a solid and stable mind y'know.

@Cloudenvy: Read my comment to oldirtybearon.

Quantity, I'd rather have a harem than a wife.

#14 Posted by JasonR86 (9742 posts) -

Depends on the 'thing' being discussed. For example, alcohol. If I want to get drunk, quantity. If I want to drink like an adult, quality.

What's better - a 6 hour shooter that compels, excites, and thoroughly interests you during every one of its precious minutes, or a 15 hour shooter that's OK some of the time, painful some of the time, and just plain boring the rest of the time?

Also, don't take this the wrong way, but I thought you said you were leaving GiantBomb? Or were you the one that made a suicide thread? It was one or the other.

So you're asking me to choose between El Shaddai with guns and Duke Nukem Forever? WHAT CHOICE IS THERE!?

I recognize the point you're making, but I refuse to accept it. When life decides to throw curve balls like cancer at you, there is no inherent choice to be made. That is, biology and chemistry have made the choice for you. It's weird to lump life-altering events like that into a poll that is inherently about choices we can make as individuals. You're essentially asking if we can enjoy the choice that life has made for us.

@believer258: I did say that I was leaving, but I came back after I finally faced the fact that my dad is gone... and I have to move on. I did no such thing in making a suicide thread, but I did make a thread when I was highly depressed and felt like the world was on my shoulders. I am so past that now, and I'm looking toward a more positive future whether I get it or not. =-)

Well, I must have gotten the suicide thing mixed up with some other poster. It's a bit late and I feel like I'm making light of a serious subject. I hope you get a far more positive future!

You have made an excellent point, and I was waiting for an educated comment like yours. By no means do you really have to choose one, the other, or both - however, the question is still there for those who are able to answer... or at least think that they are able to. You don't have to accept one over the other. Whether it's biology and chemistry that determines the choice, you do sometimes have the choice of wanting to live longer or perhaps better... though sometimes things doesn't work out as planned.

I wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't just you who got that certain vibe of thinking that I was wanting to commit suicide when I posted that thread. It's certainly alright that you did mention it, because I do want to prove that I am ok.

Has anyone ever told you the logic behind your comments is fantastic?

In answer to the question, of course it's quality. Bad analogy time: would I rather a hundred burgers from McDonalds, or just one burger from the best burger place in the world?

Hint: that best burger place is in New Zealand. Everyone, without exception, should try one once in their life.

Also glad to hear this.

My serious says quality, like most of us. Life is too short to fixate on quantity. When you have everything, you tend to fail to appreciate it. You enjoy quality so much more and for far longer.

What is wrong with you guys?
