Internet just capped, what to do?
Okay so I apparently just hit my download limit and now my internet has slowed right down, urgh!
Strangely GiantBomb loads pretty quick but the other Whiskey Media sites don't...???
So without fast internet I need something to do until June 1st.
Any ideas on what to do until then?

I live in Canberra, Australia.
I don't know how but 4 people somehow managed to use 50GB in a month.
You'd think that would be enough but we always seem to get pretty close to it each month and this month we reached it.
Well I do have exams in a few weeks so could study for those I guess...urgh
"Obviously you should drive around looking for an unsecure wireless network to leech off of. "
I guess it's an excuse to hang at uni with their free wireless, but with heaps of people on it it gets kinda slow
Australia is a bit of a mess with these data caps : / and it's damn hard to fix because as I understand it, multiple companies and their networks shuttle data between each other to get it where it needs to go. Companies charge each other by the gigabyte to move data between networks, so this cost directly affects the user. Whereas in other countries it's more streamlined with fewer middle men asking for a toll at every turn. For places like Australia, I think 4G and beyond wireless access will be your saving grace, if fiber doesn't come along before too long and replace everything.
@Gav47:
I used to be with Telstra (with Internode now) and once we went over and without letting us know Telstra charged us an extra $350 for 1GB.
We switched the next day.
Plus Internode gets unmetered/uncapped downloads from Steam

Where did you hear that load of shite? There are many Australian ISPs who offer 100GB+ /month bandwidth for reasonable prices and have good customer service too. That bullshit you're referring to is all to do with Telstra and how they literally screw out their own resellers on a regular basis. Middlemen are not the problem here, Telstra and companies who follow their lead like Optus and Virgin are. Uninformed end users have no real excuse too as Whirlpool.net has been running for over a decade and it compares pricing on a daily basis." Here in the UK, I've been on fibre optic broadband for years, it's awesome. I pay for 20Mb and that's the speed I get 100% of the time. I switched to Sky for a while a while back to try and save some money and I was getting less than half the speed I was paying for, F that. I'd rather pay a little more and actually get what I pay for. It's actually cheaper these days for me to be on Virgin anyway. I'm a happy customer.
Write a novel, isn't that what everyone does?
I'm still going with making a tin foil outfit and matching hat.
Go wrestle crocodiles, dingos and kangeroos. I would advise you to download instructional videos first though, it can be a dangerous proffession if you don't download a few Gigs of instructions.

Urgh, you'd think with HD video and games that they would increase the bandwidth limits. I'm stuck on a 100GB monthly limit myself, and I find it hard to keep within limits (luckily my ISP doesn't appear to throttle until 150GB+) . But yeah, I think with current media bandwidth limits should be at least 10x what they are now.

Spend the time looking for a new ISP. I know that if Aliant tried to do crap like that with my net I would be on the phone getting a new ISP the second I heard the news.
Switch ISP's I guess. I live in Washington and use residential Verizon FIOS. My speeds are 20/5 MBps with no download limits.
" @Mars_Cleric: My condolences. I am from NSW but live in Perth. I would never move back to the East coast. "I know what you mean, I'm from NT but Canberra has a better uni :P
Also...GO MAROONS!

You guys don't know how lucky you are
" @Gav47: Dude, I can't understand how people can live with limited internet. I once got asked by my ISP to limit my bandwith use, but that was when i tried to set up a dedicated CoD 4 server using my own connection, had it up for about a month before they kindly asked me to take it down. "
Sometimes its not your choice. The 2 decent ISPs here in Ottawa,Canada (as far as I know from experience) have limits. Granted with my current ISP you could pay extra for more bandwitdh, so right now I'm sitting at 80gb montlhy. It didnt used to be this way, a few years back it was unlimited, but then someone went ahead and put a limit and all other ISPs followed suit.
Call you ISP and say why am I being capped? I have been a loyal customer for several years, a simply call and I could double my speed and no cap, the only thing stopping me is the fact you've been more than reliable.
Now if you do that you will be quite the moron, because your hastling some member of staff who hates his or her job and much like you is stuff in a awful situation.

Not sure how helpful I am being, given that it's over half a year past your first post.
@kristov_romanov:
I decided to switch back to Telstra Bigpond from Internode, while Telstra doesn't have unmetered Steam downloads that Internode has I managed to get 200GB a month for cheaper than the 50GB Internode.
I think all internet's capped in Australia and a lot slower than everywhere else
unless you want to pay a fortune
