I should first mention that this has nothing to do with the discussions around here about them dissing console versions or anything like that. Nothing at all.

I was just thinking how at least to me it seems that Jeff, Vinny, and Ryan are console guys that built PCs to get the better graphics/performance without really giving a damn on what platform they really game on as long as it's the best experience.

And Brad is also just going to whatever offers the best experience at a point in time (as he should) but he also seems to have a bigger interest in the platform than the others. Like he was the first to play on PC at a TV for example, and long before the others started playing PC games again he was asking about the PC version of games they quick looked.

I don't want to be missunderstood, because I can see how saying something like this in a bad way could cause a war on this thread (god knows why, but it happened before). What I want to say is that even though he comes from a very similar background to the other guys he seems to be leaning a little more towards the PC then the others and I wonder why.

You wonder why? You stated everything you needed. It's more powerful, leading to a smoother, better looking experience. As to why he's more than the others? I personally don't see it, but maybe he's just more vocal about it. We're getting at the end of a console cycle and the PC is showing it's superiority.

Also, using the word fanboy is what's going to get people to start flame wars.

I think Brad just has a better experience with PC gaming compared to gaming on a console.
Doesn't really make him a fanboy.

First of all no, and that term is just played out at this point imo.

Also, my guess would be he just wants to play the best version of every game he can and he's very comfortable on the pc platform. No conspiracy or bias at all is my impression.

I think that match stick poked your brain. Preferring one platform over another does not make you a "fanboy".

Especially when we are talking about playing on the king of platforms. ;)

nah, but he has always been a bit of a gfx whore. So no surprise that as the consoles start to look old he is favouring PC.

Patrick called it right. Far Cry 3 on xbox is no worse than many other titles and is perfectly playable apart from a few dicey moments - usually when it is dealing with numerous enemies and modelling a lot of fire at the same time (e.g. crop burning mission)..

no i dont think brad is a pc fanboy , i think hes a pc noob if anything .. jeff/vinny/dave have been most vocal about their continued use of pc .. if you pay attention.

Ideeaught.

#47 Posted by captain_clayman (3319 posts) -

Fan? Yes. Fanboy? Come on now. I'm pretty convinced that most people who have a profession in video games are not fanboys. The closest to fanboy I can think of is greg miller and he's not even that bad. Fanboys are just 12 year olds who could only get one console for getting straight A's or from santa or whatever. Every time they see something for another console that looks awesome they shit on it because their small minds have to constantly justify that they chose the right system.

#48 Posted by CornBREDX (4870 posts) -

I can see why you'd think that. Brad does mention wanting to see what something looks like on PC a lot over the past couple of years. Mainly, though, I think he's just interested to see how they are pushing boundaries and since they are no longer really doing that on consoles he's looking to the PC version for that.

If my assumption is true, it's something I can agree with him on. It's always neat to see how great a game can look, so PC is usually where you look.  Sleeping Dogs, just for example, looks amazing on PC. Far Cry 3 also.
Although, sometimes Brad can go a little over board complaining about frame rates that would not bother the average person, but that's just his opinion. Nothing wrong with that, either.

Brad is a PC die-hard. Fanboy.......not so much.

PC gaming is enjoying a bit a renaissance lately thanks to Kickstarter and Steam just absolutely taking off. Not to mention the slew of excellent games that's been released that don't require an insane amount of hardware to run. Hotline Miami, the Blackwell games, Gemini Rue....the fucking Walking Dead. PC gaming is back in a big way.

This isn't even the slew of amazing shit that's been Kickstartered (Tex Murphy! Leisure Suit Larry! Wasteland! A fucking new Jane Jensen game! Broken Sword!).
