Is going on holiday by yourself a fun time?

#1 Posted by Hizang (8536 posts) - 1 year, 8 days ago

I need a holiday.

It's gotten to that point where I haven't been on a holiday for ages and I need one, my parents are going to America this year. I had a terrible experience last year on the plane which ended with me fainting on the flight back and using a wheelchair at both airports. So I am not flying for a few more years at the very least, so I am not going with them. I don't think I could last another year though, so was considering going by myself.

Is going on holiday by yourself fun? Do you ever get lonely or bored, also where would be some nice places to go by yourself.

Do you have a car? Just get it and drive. You'll find a nice place sooner or later

I've never done it before, but I see nothing wrong with it. Pick a place that interests you and just have a loose idea of what you would want to do. Find interesting places to go, some good places to eat, and plenty of time to just relax.

Get back on a plane or you will never overcome your fears. Just don’t use the same airline.

Never done it before but thinking about going overseas next year for a few weeks. I don't mind doing stuff by myself so it wouldn't bother me and I certainly hope I would find it fun.

Done that, though spent most of my time playing poker, in which case it's only fun if you are winning. (I was)

Going on vacation alone is as fun as you can make it, I'd say.

Depending on the purpose of the trip. If you are going to have fun and party you might get a little lonely but if the purpose of your trip is to rediscover yourself and experience something new and different then you'll have a great time. I am on the side of no it won't be lonely.@Hizang:

I went to Toronto last year by myself and it was pretty good, although I had friends already there. If I have the money and time I think I'll take a train from the east coast to the west coast later this year by myself. It'd be 8 days on the rails with stops in Montreal, Toronto Halifax and Vancouver. If you want to save a couple bucks then couchsurfing.org can probably hook you up with a couch at your destinations.

I'm travelling Southeast Asia solo right now, and I haven't been bored or lonely yet. The great thing about travelling by yourself is that you will always meet people along the way to have fun with when you want to, and you get to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

I just got my advanced open water diving certification on a small island in Thailand and met a lot of cool people in my class, and had fun with them while they were still on the island. After everyone I got to know left, I took the rest of my time here to enjoy the scenery on my own.

At the end of the day, if you want to go and do something like travel by yourself, take the oportunity. You will be experiencing something completely different, and you won't get bored. If you get lonely, go talk to some people and make a few friends.

I always have fun hanging out with myself. At least in the states, if you pick a direction, you'll wind up someplace interesting, even if it isn't fun or cool. But that's what a trip like that is good for, not having a plan and just going.

Depends on where you go & who you meet.

I've never taken a holiday by myself, but always wondered what it'd be like. Sounds adventurous and a train trip is really cool.

What happened to the plane that caused you to faint? I hate flying and get more afraid of it the older I get. Doesn't mean I don't like hearing interesting stories about people's flights.

I do it often. Or do when im single. There are perks. Does not cost as much. I can take a 4 day vacation with about 500 cash and not ever stress about anything.

You can set your own pace. Do what you want to do when you want, and not have to worry about having to keep up or slow down for someone else.

And depending on how social you are, you can meet more people when you travel alone i think.

I traveled for 5 weeks by myself last year and I loved it. I'm perfectly happy being alone most of the time, but it's good to be able to make friends with people along the way. If you travel with friends from back home you risk isolating yourself from the people you meet along the way.

Does "going on holiday" mean "sex"? If so, then yea, I'd say masturbation is pretty cool.

I haven't been on one for years. -_-

Sightseeing tour, not so much.

18-30 holiday in Ibiza, great. A new "friend" every night.

I don't enjoy solo vacations, much like I don't enjoy going out solo - it's for much the same reason, since a vacation is just going out to things a lot more often than your usual rate. But if you're the sort of guy who'll sit down solo at a restaurant and sees movies on his own, it might work.

I could see the appeal

the worst part about going on holiday is trying to make everyone happy. If you're alone you just have to worry about yourself.

I went to Berlin by myself last year and had a blast. If your aim is to relax and take time off work/studying then it's the best kind of holiday. Get up when you want, do what you want at your own pace and not have to listen to anyone else. If I wanted to spent my evening sitting in a bathrobe watching hardcore German erotica, well I bloody well did.
